Happy Summer! It is great to have met so many of you as the weather gets warmer and there is more activity around the club. July will be a busy month with lots of celebrations taking place! We have our Annual Blue Coat Invitational at the end of the month with SISCA Swim Finals the following week. Our team has been working hard on getting ready for these large events.

The Swim Finals will give us the opportunity to show members of other clubs what an incredible facility and staff we have here at Orchard Lake!

The events keep rolling into August where we will have our Family Campout on August 12th and the End of Summer Party on August 27th. Be sure to save the date in your calendars and we will be sending out more information on that evenings festivities.

As always please feel free to reach out to myself or Atara for anything that we can do to help you plan a memorable event here at the club!

2022 Golf News A Letter from Brian

The season is rolling along and we hope you’re all enjoying the summer so far!

The golf course is in terrific shape and our event calendar is well underway. The Women’s Member-Guest is coming up shortly, as is the Blue Coat Invitational, followed shortly afterward by the Men’s Senior Gross Championship, Orchard Brian Sleeman PGA Head Professional Lake Charity Pro-Am, and Club Championship events. Our new staff are settling in nicely and soaking up the Orchard Lake culture. Thank you for providing them with a warm welcome.

As we move into the second half of summer, please remember the importance of each of us doing our part to maintain the golf course at its highest level. This means properly repairing

ball marks, raking bunkers, and refilling divots, as well as focusing our golf cart traffic in the proper spots to avoid the native grasses and areas surrounding our wonderful greens.

Please be sure to dispose of trash in the proper receptacles (including cigars and cigarettes) and pick up any loose litter that may float around from time to time.

Orchard Lake is above all a family club, and when interacting with your fellow members, please always keep in mind our shared purpose of enjoying this great place together. Practice good citizenship by inviting faster groups to play through, make new friends and connections by joining in with other groups, and invite others to join you when opportunities allow.

It's been a wonderful summer and that is due in large part to the great group of people who call this club home.

I and my team are here to help you make the most of your golf experience with us, so please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or feedback any time. We look forward to enjoying a great second half of 2022 together!

Racquets Report Update from Lincoln

Well summer is here, and we are rocking and rolling at the tennis and pickleball courts.

It is great to see the kids out here enjoying the club. It is always so special to see so many smiling faces on Lincoln Wirgau, USPTA the tennis courts and Director of Racquets kids working so hard to achieve their goals. We have had many junior matches on Fridays as well as some youth tournaments. They have gone very well, and it has been great seeing the kids play some great tennis.

We are also having a Ladies Invitational on July 21st. This will be the first one we have put on here at OLCC in several years thanks to Kara Howe and Katherine Fumei. There will be drinks and food on the patio for enjoyment.

Our adult classes have also been rolling throughout the month of June and will continue for July and August.

We are still using our sign-up link to reserve spots for our classes. Spots are limited so signing up helps us tremendously.

Sailing News 2022 A letter from Bruce Lilley

Where to begin? Sooooo many exciting things, events, programs and developments is difficult to decide! Best way to proceed here is just tuck down and throw my shoulder to it. We began this season with the acquiBruce Lilley sition of two more beautiWaterfront/Sailing Center Director ful Flying Scots bringing our Club Fleet up to six which is getting ever nearer to its traditional ten boats. On the upside, our regattas thus far have filled swiftly! The new boats arrived in May and our Commodore Mike Blinstrub along with his beautiful family continued our rich tradition of Blessing of the Fleet and christening our new boats.

Another new and exciting addition is our beautiful new Tri-Toon! Cruising the lake has always been an extremely popular amenity – now it is on steroids!

Many requests through the past three seasons for taking groups over eight out created the need for a larger capacity boat, enter the new Tri-Toon which has the capability to accommodate up to fourteen souls! And, as if that were not enough, we can also TUBE behind the new boat! The email to our members regarding chartering options went out and within 45 min. the phone at the dock (X113) was ringing off the hook.

Thirty-one reservations came in with in the hour! Clearly this is being well received.

Back in June, OLCC was represented at the Mid West/Ontario Flying Scot District Championships hosted at Crescent Sail and Yacht Club on Lake St. Clair. Boats converged from all throughout the Midwest and Canada to race for the championship trophy. At the end of day one racing, the OLCC entry led the fleet in first place by two points. Racing Sunday saw beautiful 12knt. Breezes and a relatively calm lake perfect conditions

for the Scots. The reigning champion came out swinging and made it his focus to give the OLCC boat a difficult time – he succeeded. At the end of the day he managed to pull ahead and retain the championship trophy – by one point! Crescent Sail and Yacht Club came to OLCC on July 2nd for our first Inter-Club regatta! Great things continue at the Waterfront.

Junior programming has burgeoned to 85 sailors and the faces tell the story – having fun! Week one was some review and of course, capsize drills. This was a most appealing lesson as the days that week crested 98 degrees. Arrgh. Our Intermediate Sailors have begun to truly master upwind sailing skills which is a difficult task. Delta team was genuinely amazed at how well they are doing.

Our Friday Night League has gotten off to a bumpy beginning due to many of our skippers schedules getting rather frenetic. We have however, been hosting “pick up” races every Friday and WOW has the weather been great! Big breezes have made for some thrilling rides and close finishes.

Development-wise, we have made some (much needed) improvements to the north of the Lakehouse on the shore which has been a perennial eyesore. Once weed infested and overgrown with dying trees perched precipitously on the steep slope, it is now “Bunker Beach”. A beautiful new beach has been created complete with Adirondack chairs and umbrella to greet our members and their guests as the pull up to the Member Dock.

Thank you to Aaron and his team, for executing this beautiful new feature!

All in all it has been a terrific beginning to the 2022 summer and looks to be only continuing to gain steam. As always out team at the Waterfront/Sailing Center is looking forward to seeing you all on the water so c’mon down and join the fun!

OLCC Swimming Happy Summer! This is the first opportunity that Gaby, myself, and the rest of the staff has had to wish everyone a happy summer since everyone has been released from school at the end of June! And what a month June was!

We were able to enjoy the annual club fireworks and of course at the end of June we started to feel the weather that the heart of summer is known for.

I probably do not need to tell you this, but it was HOT! During July we get into the normal events that we have at the pool, particularly home swim meets.

Hours of Operation•On the following dates the pool will close early due to a Blue Upcoming Blue Carp Meets • Sunday, July 10th • Wednesday, July 20th • The pool opening may be delayed on Friday, July 15th for the OLCC Mini-Meet that we will host in the morning.

• Please also note that the Pool will be closed starting Monday, July 25th and will reopen

• August 2nd due to hosting the SICSA finals at the club.

Pool games are all the rage of the young kids. Do you know what reportedly is the most popular swimming pool game? It is one that many people play in pools all throughout the world, Marco Polo, named after the famous 13th century Venetian merchant. It is a variation of hide and seek where the seeker has their eyes closed and they call out Marco while those that are being seeked must respond with Polo, and they are trying to avoid being tagged.

Some Orchard Lake favorites are playing basketball on the hoop that we have in the pool, and the classic favorite is Gutterball. This game is played by trying to score a point by throwing a tennis ball into the gutter of the pool up to a certain number of points and is a favorite of the younger boys on the swim team.

We have some new additions to the Pool and Waterfront this summer in the form of games. These are the lawn games! We have volleyball, stand-up Connect Four, and 3 total Corn Hole boards! We hope that these will provide hours of enjoyment for the membership.
