MEET YOUR MEET YOUR IINSTRUCTOR NSTRUCTOR

As a past student of the Jo Daviess Carroll CTE Academy, I’m really excited to be back in the classroom as the Graphics Communications Instructor In addition to having a Bachelors of Science in Computer Graphics and Interactive Media, I have over ten years of experience in the field as a Professional Wedding / Portrait Photographer (Orange Anchor Photography - www.orangeanchor.photo), and a Freelance Graphic Designer. The skills and education I acquired as a student of the Academy years ago were the stepping stones and confidence boost that I needed to build a successful, fulfilling career. My love for teaching began years ago when I organized and taught classes locally for area 4-H groups, as well as in Seattle, Washington where I was a guest speaker for various social groups, educating both children and adults on camera functions, color theory, and basic photoshop techniques My hope and ultimate goal is to be that little nudge that motivates a young person’s aspirations and dreams

Besides an educator, photographer, designer, creative guru - WHO AM I? I’m a dog mom to Finn, cat mom to Kevin and Annie, and wifey to Shawn. (who you'll hear me talk about often!) I liked tacos before they were a thing, and am an advocate of afternoon naps. I love the outdoors and gearing up in my blaze orange every fall for Deer Hunting (you'll have a sub opening day, sorry) and I believe that getting your hands dirty is good for the soul

prompts are posted Monday, due Friday

CTE/

The sketchbook is the tool that every creative needs to give ideas a physical form It doesn't matter if these ideas come from a specific project you are working on, or if they are flashes of inspiration that you didn't see coming and that you simply need to jot down somewhere safe.

sketchbook prompts are 20% of your grade....

TIPS

Your sketchbook is a reflection of you. Who you are as a person, an artist, a young adult, a creative

Each week you willl have a new prompt to complete for credit. Prompts range from silly to thought provoking and each page should be crafted with intention Slow down, enjoy the process, and put something on the page that you'll be proud to look back on when the dog days of Highschool and (your favorite class) Graphics have come to an end.

GRADING /25 G E T Y O U R D A M N W O R K D O N E
Weights · Assignments 25% · Art Projects (includes Finals) 45% · Sketchbook 20% · Participation 10% Final grade assignments will be based
100 - 90 = A 89- 80 = B 79 – 70 = C 69 – 60 = D 59 and under = F
on the following scale :

Your participation in the form of questions, comments and feedback is invited, expected, and appreciated. Note: there truly are no stupid questions. If you have a question, please ask it. In fact, you are not allowed to keep yourself from asking questions or making comments based on the assumption that you will sound a) stupid or uneducated, b) obvious, or c) lame.

Mutual respect is an expectation of everyone involved in the class. Respect is demonstrated through active listening when others are talking, thinking before speaking, and sharing comments based on fact rather than opinion. Students will contribute to their own learning and that of their classmates through peer discussions and interactions. NO MONITORS ON DURING STUDENT PRESENTATIONS.

While respect is at the core of classroom discussion, realize that it is entirely appropriate to discuss, disagree, and challenge myself and each other. In fact, this challenge is encouraged, provided it is not abusive, disrespectful, or dismissive, as this dialogue is imperative to learning.

Humor will be used often and is a valuable educational tool, as well as life skill.

DON'T BE A SLOB

Students are expected to have respect for the classroom and supplies. DO NOT BE WASTEFUL. Clean up after yourself (Ms. Cole isn't your Mama) -- Paint brushes and pallets must be rinsed and put away after each use, wipe down sink and art table, check floor for messes or scraps, etc. Get something out, put it back where you found it when you're done.

KEEP OUT

Do not rummage through Ms. Cole's or your classmates spaces (cabinets behind the instructors desk are off limits) & HANDS OFF OF ARTWORK THAT YOU DID NOT CREATE! THIS INCLUDES SNOOPING AROUND IN CLASSMATES FOLDERS ON THE Z DRIVE. I will not tolerate stealing or sabotaging in my classroom!

CELL PHONE POLICY

Students are expected to have their cell phones silenced at the start of each class session. Cell phones serve as a useful tool in society, but can often be a distraction to the learning process. There will be limited times that students are allowed to use their phones for music, research, etc., but this will be clearly stated at that time.

ASSIGNMENTS AND LATE WORK POLICY

For every day that an assignment is late, 5 points will be taken off. LATE WORK FOR QUARTER PROJECTS AND/OR FINALS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

It is the students responsibility to communicate if their work will be late and when it will be turned in. The instructor may issue reminders, but ultimately it is the students responsibility to listen in class, read the calendar, and keep track of their responsibilities. Students are expected to make arrangements in advance if they know they will be absent when an assignment, project, or final is due.

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY

Dishonesty (cheating, plagiarism, etc.) in class and/or on assigned work will result in total loss of credit for the class or assignment. Dishonesty in general is frowned upon. This class wants to see and hear your own unique ideas.
