JOAN BARRETT Joan Barrett and her husband Chris Mahoney are long-time residents of Harbour Island, Eleuthera. The couple spends most winters and several months of the summer immersed in the activities of their island community. Ms. Barrett is an avid volunteer and believes deeply in not only giving back but working together within communities to make a tangible difference. For this reason, she supports OEF as a financial donor. “One Eleuthera is an inspiration to all nonprofits, as to what you can do with a good idea and a committed group of people. I particularly enjoy supporting a broad range of efforts to improve the education of the residents of Harbour Island and North Eleuthera and increase the prosperity of the community through a more skilled workforce.” Ms. Barrett has served as President of the Friends of the Sir George Roberts Library board in Harbour Island and currently serves on the Friends of the Harbour Island Trade School (FHITS) board. This organization is partnered with OEF’s Centre for Training and Innovation (CTI) in providing technical training opportunities to young people residing in North Eleuthera and the surrounding settlements.
