MAGAZINE PUBLISHING

OMAHA PUBLICATIONS

Omaha is a vibrant place in which businesses thrive. Year after year, national and international publications rank our city as one of the top places in the U.S., economically, and Greater Omaha produces more than $52 billion in goods and services annually.

Each industry in our metro has a “face,” or expert, who represents a top tier company with which to conduct business. Highlighting those experts is the purpose of this premier magazine by Omaha Publications. Our ninth edition of FACES of Omaha showcases more than 80 companies, and the featured enterprises represent the pinnacles of their fields for manifold reasons. One might exemplify teamwork; another has emerged as the innovator in their industry. Yet another has established itself as the business leader to whom the public has turned for years of exceptional service.

The team at Omaha Publications has curated each page in FACES of Omaha through a collaborative effort—the salespeople assessed the categories and assisted clients, the photographers captured the faces behind the businesses, the writers and editors created the copy, and the designers combined images and text to create a visually elegant compendium that compellingly tells the story of Omaha’s business leaders.

The end result is a tribute to our industry leaders and their high standards of excellence.

the

PUBLISHER

Omaha is home, and I have always thought it is the best place in the world to both live and work. In the mid-2010s, I saw similar, even larger, city publications producing sections of native content to be part of their regular magazines. I knew Omaha would need more than a special section—that there are so many talented, innovative, and expert industries in this city, we needed a separate book to introduce all the “faces” of our local experts.

We published our first edition of FACES of Omaha in 2016, and this publication remains special to me and to the business community. The honor of being named a “face” is reserved for one company per business category, and each company represented in this compendium is here by invitation. My sales team and I carefully curated the list to ensure that the companies represented produce the highest quality, most professional work in their industry. Each feature in this publication tells the story of one of Omaha’s first-rate businesses.

The search is on for FACES of Omaha 2026. I encourage the entire business community, as well as the public, to let us know the “face” of any company worthy of this honor. Any member of my team can be reached by calling 402.884.2000.

Todd Smith FITNESS AND NUTRITION

TODD SMITH FITNESS

Lifelong health fanatic Todd Smith has 40-plus years of fitness and nutrition expertise, and he’s still in phenomenal shape as his 60th birthday looms. Knowing firsthand that people can remain fit and healthy into middle age and beyond, he serves clients as both personal trainer and personal inspiration.

The key is building muscle mass along with a protein-centric nutrition plan, he said, instead of fixating on burning fat and restricting calories. Smith’s team also trains male and female clients differently, considering how hormones and other factors weigh in.

“Women metabolically are so radically different than men,” he said. “They’ve been told ‘portion control,’ ‘skip breakfast,’(but) it’s a very unhealthy way of living for women.”

The Todd Smith Fitness approach yields lasting results, Smith said.

“We’re looking at the whole process from a different lens…From the very beginning of my career, I had kind of a vision of what I thought would be the ideal platform to help the mature adult,” he said. “Instead of lifespan, let’s talk about ‘healthspan.’ Let’s talk about feeling great and having energy.”

When it comes to supporting Omaha’s business community, ACCESSbank’s business banking team leads the way to excellence. In 2024, in addition to celebrating a 12th consecutive designation as Best Bank by B2B Omaha magazine, ACCESSbank earned a 2024 Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Ethics and was honored with an Omaha Chamber Excellence Award for the sixth time, all reflecting the bank’s values and community impact.

Beyond the awards, ACCESSbank is distinguished by how it helps business owners thrive. “At ACCESSbank, it’s about more than financial services--it’s about partnerships,” said President Tom Corrigan. “Our team takes the time to understand the unique challenges of each business, offering guidance and resources to help them succeed. With 16 convenient locations across the Omaha metro, Dino’s Storage offers a range of self-storage solutions, including indoor climate-controlled units as well as outdoor vehicle spaces. Knowledgeable property managers guide customers to the right solution based on the size and nature of what they’re storing—because they understand that those belongings matter.

People often need storage during a pivotal moment—moving homes, starting school, or navigating a life transition. That’s why at Dino’s Storage, they go beyond simply renting space.

“When someone needs a storage unit, a lot of times there’s something happening,” said owner Lisa Paladino. “So, we want to be more personable with the tenant than having just a machine or a kiosk. We want people to have someone they can come in and talk to.”

D ino’s Storage combines highquality storage solutions with a personal, community-first approach.

“We want to engage in the community,” Paladino said. That commitment shines through as they actively support local youth sports and other neighborhood programs.

Matthew A. Lathrop, PC, LLO WRONGFUL DEATH

LAW OFFICE OF MATTHEW A. LATHROP,

Even after decades of practicing law, one simple concept still rises to the top when attorney Matt Lathrop describes the firm he founded: helping.

“We ‘handle’ cases, we ‘help’ people,” Lathrop said. “A personal injury law firm helps people who are dealing with wrongful death, catastrophic injuries, and negligence claims against other people, corporations, and government agencies.”

New office spaces acquired in 2024 better reflect the firm’s personal approach, he said.

The firm’s areas of practice include car, truck, and motorcycle accidents, amusement park accidents, and wrongful death. They also offer pretrial focus groups, a valuable resource for lawyers and participants.

“We don’t want clients to feel like they walked into a big, stuffy, corporate law firm. We want them to feel like they’re in a warm setting with understanding people,” he said.

Rather than focusing on obtaining quick settlements, the law firm seeks to “do right by” each client, Lathrop said, taking a case all the way to trial when necessary with experienced, skilled, and aggressive representation.

Lathrop was elected by his peers to join the 1% of lawyers who are members of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He was also elected to the American Board of Trial Advocates, another distinguished honor. Lathrop has always received an “AV” rating from Martindale-Hubbell in the annual vote by other lawyers. This rating is only given to attorneys of the highest ethical standards and professional ability.

“We use cutting-edge settlement and trial techniques,” he said. “We don’t know all the law for all the kinds of cases out there, but we know the law for the cases that we handle, and that makes a difference.”

No amount of money can bring back a loved one who has been tragically killed, but a wrongful death suit can make the negligent party pay and help families overcome financial struggles caused by the loss.

FAMILY DENTISTRY

THE DENTISTS

We see patients of all ages,” said Jennifer Abshier, practice administrator for The Dentists, a locally-owned group dental practice founded in 1996. “We have doctors that each have their own niche. Two focus on oral surgery and implants, one focuses on cosmetic work, and one is really big into Invisalign. We work with our specialist partners when needed, but we’re able to do a lot of procedures in-house.”

Patients can choose among four locations: Hillsborough, Village Pointe, Ralston Square, and Dundee. “We like to do things consistently, so if a patient goes from one location to another, things are done the same way,” Jennifer said. “We have seven doctors and 11 hygienists, and everybody works together really well.”

“We want to make things as easy as possible for people,” Jennifer added. For example, patients can receive oral sedation if needed. For complicated or

lengthy procedures, the practice offers IV sedation by a nurse anesthetist so the doctor can focus on doing the procedure while the nurse anesthetist keeps track of the patient’s vital signs.

VALO Wellness Spa offers traditional spa services plus holistic health services, and this year, the growing business has a special focus on a spa fundamental.

“We’re taking a really in-depth look into our skin care routines and our facials, and how we can elevate them even more and find new, innovative modalities and treatments that are not really seen in the market here,” founder and owner Kelly Davis said. “We’re trying to be aware of the new trends while being mindful of our mission when it comes to sustainability and working with nature.”

Facials and other skin care treatments aren’t just for women of a certain age, Davis added.

“We actually see a decent number of men…men’s skin needs different products in order to see results than just a generic product on the shelf, and we do offer a specific line targeted for men,” she said. “And for the younger generations, the trend is going to preventative care and holistic care. We see a lot of them coming in and wanting that.”

In addition to facials and custom skin treatments, VALO offers body services, massage, and access to the one-of-a-kind Wellness Playground — a space created for guided recovery,

relaxation, and deep healing. Every element is intentionally designed to support mind, body, and spirit, allowing guests to build self-care into their lifestyle in a way that feels accessible, grounded, and personal.

Chad and Theresa Nelson GARAGE ORGANIZATION

After only six years in business, Chad and Theresa Nelson received the Garage Living Franchise Ambassador Award—the company’s highest honor—recognizing their outstanding efforts in championing the brand’s mission to give clients great value and outstanding service.

“We are locally owned and operated with a personal commitment to care for you,” Theresa said. “Our customers will always deal directly with us, not a salesman who may not be here in six months or a corporate office where you are just a number. We want to meet and have a connection with each and every one of you.”

Theresa described Garage Living as a “one-stop shop for everything garage.”

“With a focus on high-quality craftsmanship and innovation, our designs reflect a commitment to premium materials and durability,” she said, adding that the company now offers five cabinet lines and that all of its products can be viewed in the showroom. “Our customized solutions enhance your home and lifestyle with stylish cabinetry, innovative storage, and durable flooring…We strive to make your garage an organized, beautiful space.”

DUI LAW

Attorney Eric Hagen of Liberty Law Group said that for clients facing DUI charges, the firm’s objective is to provide the most complete and meaningful defense possible.

“For somebody calling in for our first consult, they’ll get transferred directly to an attorney for that consult in real time,” he said. “It’s very important to us that every client feels like we really care about them and their case, because we recognize that if somebody is calling an attorney, they’re making a call for help…We’re right there with them, because whatever they’re calling us about is probably the biggest and most important thing going on in their life. It’s probably the thing that’s keeping them up at

night, and so we want to make sure that we’re there for them to make that experience easier.”

DUI clients can count on the due diligence of Liberty Law, Hagen added.

“We’ll look at every single DUI, start to finish, leaving no stone unturned,” he said. “Ultimately, our goal is to get the client the best outcome possible under the circumstances.”

Jennifer & Jeff Snow CATERING CATERING CREATIONS

Catering Creations is a full-service catering company entrusted to be an approved caterer for many of the finest venues in the area. They have the ability to cater just about any kind of event, from cocktail party, to corporate gathering, to formal wedding reception. Whether the client calls for plated and served dinners, buffet-style service, drop-off, or even food for a workplace cafeteria, Catering Creations has the expertise to create an amazing culinary experience for any occasion.

“We repeatedly hear clients tell us our service is really what makes the difference,” said Jennifer Snow, who founded and owns the company with husband Jeff. “We also hear that years after an event, people will still be talking about the food.”

Most items are prepared from scratch, so Catering Creations can accommodate dietary restrictions. “Everything

is really controlled, which also keeps it fresh and flavorful,” she said.

The company is located in downtown Omaha, but Snow emphasized that services are available to a much wider area. “We make the planning process simple and streamlined so that you can have peace of mind knowing that all aspects of your special event are covered and you can sit back and enjoy being a guest at your own event,” she said.

Christi Clark sees hair color as both a science and an art form, something she’s been perfecting over the course of her career. Trained by renowned colorist Louis Licari, she has focused exclusively on color. After nearly 20 years working in top salons in New York and Los Angeles, Christi now brings her expertise back home to Omaha. Her clients range from young women looking for sun-kissed dimension to those embracing their natural shades that complement their skin tone and style.

“I specialize in soft, natural-looking color that enhances each person’s features,” she said. “I tend to steer away from super trendy looks. They come and go, and here in the Midwest, we’re usually a little behind the curve anyway. My goal is timeless beauty. We can go lighter and brighter in the summer, deeper and richer in the winter. It’s about enhancing your look, not overwhelming it.”

For those seeking a full transformation, Christi collaborates with her longtime friend and West Hollywood-based stylist Jeannine Brousseau. Jeannine visits Omaha about every 10 weeks to offer expert haircuts exclusively to Christi’s clients. It’s an added layer of luxury and trust in an already personalized experience.

LaTricia Harris ACCOUNTING SERVICES

HAYES & ASSOCIATES, LLC

For more than 40 years, Hayes & Associates has been providing comprehensive accounting services with a commitment to ethical business practices, innovation, continuing education, and exceptional service. Some clients have been with the firm for decades, said LaTricia Harris, senior manager of operations, recruitment, and HR.

“We treat them as family, if you will, and we build that relationship to where it’s kind of generational; parents may do business with us and then they refer their kids, businesses refer other businesses,” she said. “It’s that personal touch. They’re not just a number; we personally know all of our clients.”

While service remains a constant, the company continues to evolve. In late 2024, Hayes & Associates moved to

a new space in the Centris Federal Credit Union building off 132nd and Pacific streets. And this year, a new program in partnership with the Nebraska Department of Economic Development is being introduced to help small businesses, Harris said.

“The project is for North and South Omaha,” she said. “It will prioritize delivering financial education, consulting, counseling, and financial literacy.”

Jim Friedlander

Allergies, asthma, and immune deficiencies can range from merely annoying to life-threatening. The good news, Dr. Jim Friedlander said, is that there is better testing and a wider range of treatment options for allergies, asthma and immune deficiencies—and those treatments are becoming more sophisticated. Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Associates, P.C. has even helped new patients unable to find solid relief from their symptoms in the past or who stopped responding to a previous treatment.

Medical teams are more collaborative these days, too, Dr. Friedlander added, giving patients the benefit of a multidisciplinary approach for complex issues that involve allergists, in addition to otolaryngologists, pulmonologists, gastroenterologists, and dermatologists, for example.

“We’re in an age of biologics right now… These medicines are becoming more and more specific, and we’re basically entering an era of personalized medicine for respiratory diseases,” Friedlander explained. “These breakthroughs allow us to pair our conventional treatments with cutting-edge medicine. You have to find the right mix for the patient; it’s very personalized.” ALLERGY, ASTHMA & IMMUNOLOGY ASSOCIATES, P.C. 2808 S. 80th Ave., Ste. 210 Omaha, NE 68124 402.391.1800 allergynebraska.com

CKF Team COUNTERTOPS

CKF’s Omaha showroom features an impressive variety of countertop options not only for kitchens and baths, but also for other work surfaces in garages, basements, family rooms, and other areas. Both natural materials (like granite, marble, and quartzite) and engineered materials (quartz, ultra-compact, etc.) are available in classic and on-trend colors and styles—and multiple price points are represented.

Recent trends, according to the CKF design team, include full-height backsplashes, warmer colorations, and printed quartz. Features that emphasize functionality are also part of CKF’s offerings; an especially popular option available with some styles is an integrated wireless phone charger.

Customers can browse online or visit the showroom to gather ideas for their own home. When they’re ready to move forward, CKF’s design sales

team will guide them through decision-making. Skilled technicians then take precise measurements, and professional installers make sure everything fits perfectly.

CKF, which has been around for over a century, has also implemented sustainability initiatives, from utilizing a water reclamation system in its fabrication facility to recycling small scraps left over from stone countertops.

Cabinetry trends are always evolving, and CKF’s cabinetry showroom keeps up with the latest—warmer paint colors for cabinets, more white oak, black hardware, color accents like emerald green, brushed gold, glass inserts, and metal inserts—for those customers who like to be on the edge of what’s in vogue. At the same time, the company carries a full array of classic styles for the homeowners who prefer a more timeless look for their kitchen or bathrooms. CKF also has products for other spaces in a home or office, including workshops, garages, break rooms, and storage rooms. The company even has outdoor storage solutions, including a new line created to be more budget-friendly. CKF’s website is a good place to find initial inspiration before a showroom visit.

Customized cabinetry means guidance from CKF’s specialists, who are experts in helping clients determine every aspect from exterior design elements, such as fronts and fixtures,to

interior features like dividers, pullouts, and rollouts. The company serves both residential and commercial clients, and all systems are professionally measured and installed.

Becki Cloyed TRANSPORTATION & BROKERAGE

Starting as a modest three-truck operation in 2008, Omaha-based and familyowned JJT Transportation has grown into a comprehensive transportation solutions company with over 35 employees and multiple locations.

The company finds transportation solutions for diverse customers, said owner and CEO Becki Cloyed. Since Jeff and Amy Grewe started Arbor Aesthetics in 2005, the company’s certified arborists have provided not only outstanding customer service, but skilled care for thousands of trees, helping them stand tall even through weather extremes and challenging environments. As Amy puts it, “If you have trees that you love, you should be working with a professional company.”

“Our previous brand promise used to be ‘Beautiful trees, exceptional service.’ In our 20th year in business, we’ve really dug deep to understand what we do better than anyone else in our market: we build long-term relationships with our clients for the whole life of their trees and in all the ways that trees enhance life,” Amy said. “So we’re excited to roll out our new brand promise, which is ‘Beautiful trees for life.’”

“There’s a lot of play on words there, a lot of meaning. It’s for the life of the trees, for the life of the client. It’s for the better life of our employees and everyone involved in it,” Jeff said. “It all ties into creating those connections, which is what life is all about.”

The Olson Group works with companies to develop customized group insurance and retirement planning benefits using a strategic trademarked process that examines four key areas of an organization and also highlights a company’s strengths and opportunities.

Katie & Greg Frazell HOME REMODELING

Lee Homes, known for building to a higher standard, applies that level of excellence to every project, said Katie Frazell, who owns the company with husband Greg.

“Our business has three pillars: full-service design, new construction, and high-end remodels,” she said. “We’ve been building custom homes for 20 years, and with some of the homes we built, people are adding on to them, or people are remodeling the house that we built them a decade ago or more.”

The repeat business is a testament to both quality of work and outstanding service still remembered years later, Frazell added.

“We take it personally, the privilege that we are in their home, the responsibility to enhance their life with what we are bringing to their home,” she said. “We always say it’s kind of a lifetime relationship…this is not just a ‘one and done.’”

A successful remodel takes the contributions of many people, Frazell said.

“It’s important that everyone gets credit: our employees, our team, our vendors, our subcontractors,” she said. “I believe they are the absolute best.”

Marsh Creek Concrete Inc. (MCCI) has achieved much over more than two decades of completing major construction projects and raising the bar for commercial/industrial concrete contracting citywide. Under the leadership of owner Ryan Petersen, the company has grown from a five-man crew to a thriving business with 150 employees.

The owners have much respect and dedication toward the industry, and appreciate the value of those who provide the services, both mental and physical, behind this very skilled trade. Three integral parts play a key role in the success of the company: the field team that endures rain, shine, and all elements in between; the shop team members whose mechanical know-how keeps operations running and equipment firing on all cylinders; and the office team

that handles estimating, project management, accounting, and customer service with professionalism.

Crushin’-IT Inc., a producer in recycled aggregate, was introduced to the family in 2018 and has a second location downtown. Along with the hauling division operating as Marsh Creek Carriers, Inc., there are plenty of roles for new hires and industry veterans to explore.

Every year, new options emerge to treat conditions affecting skin, hair, and nails—even for patients with historically challenging conditions like allergic contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, alopecia areata, and psoriasis.

“There are advances in treating complex medical dermatology problems with the era of biologics and immune modulators; there are continuing to be new medications that we can offer,” Finnegan said. Plus, the practice’s team is growing to meet increased demand.

“We’ve expanded our number of practitioners, and so we have increased availability for same-day appointments and same-week appointments,” she said.

The practice sees people of all ages and offers patient-centered features such as convenient parking and an efficient check-in process. Postprocedure, privacy is respected with an exit leading to the parking lot instead of through the waiting area.

“We take what we do very seriously,” Finnegan said. “And we get to know our patients, from the front door all the way through the checkout process.”

Buoyant Family Services—now in a new location—offers mental and behavioral health services for individuals of all ages, couples, and families seeking diagnosis or treatment. The mission of the practice also embraces multiculturalism, and is responsive to community needs for an accessible approach, says founder Dr. Betty Kola.

“We keep it real,” she said. “We provide a safe, authentic, and non-judgmental space where everyone who is ready to do the work is welcomed and supported. Our commitment to honesty, compassion, and results continues to build trust within our community.”

While Buoyant Family Services supports a wide range of mental health needs, the team places special emphasis on trauma-informed care and on creating space for men to actively engage in their mental health—an area that’s often minimized or ignored.

“As a trauma specialist, I can confidently say that trauma cannot be ignored or bypassed—it must be addressed with the same urgency and dedication we give to physical ailments. True healing requires honest work and a supportive environment,” Kola said.

“Mental health struggles can be silent but deeply damaging, affecting not only men, but the entire community. Mental health does not discriminate by gender, age, or background. Just as we prioritize physical health, mental health deserves the same level of attention and care.”

Criminal Defense Attorney Michael J. Fitzpatrick is entering his 25th year of practicing law. With a statewide reputation for excellence, he is constantly on the road representing those charged with crimes. As a play off the movie The Lincoln Lawyer, Fitzpatrick is often called the “Lexus Lawyer.” He jokes he does the same job the Lincoln Lawyer does—only more reliably.

People across Nebraska hire him for his knowledge, experience, and skill. A former police officer, deputy county attorney, public defender, and Omaha City Prosecutor, plus 20 years in private practice, he has pretty much seen it all. Fitzpatrick brings a unique approach to law, always focused on getting clients the best possible outcomes.

One of his favorite parts of the job is traveling for cases. He currently handles cases in 12 or more counties each year and enjoys the sense of

adventure representing people in different towns. Fitzpatrick also draws on his law enforcement background, using private polygraph examiners who are former officers to help clients. He has successfully convinced prosecutors to dismiss charges against wrongly accused clients. If negotiations fail, he enjoys trying jury trials— and is currently on a two-win streak, something few criminal defense attorneys can claim.

Nico Marasco REAL ESTATE

Realtor Nico Marasco is committed to guiding individuals through property sales with a focus on minimizing stress and inconvenience for his clients. His success is evident in the results, with a significant portion of his business originating from referrals and positive online reviews.

Understanding the pivotal role client satisfaction plays in the decision-making process of buying or selling a home, whether it's a residential resale or new construction, Marasco effectively manages both aspects. His prosperous career is a testament to his ability to uphold his clients' trust as a licensed professional with a keen understanding of the local market.

Continuing a family tradition started by his father, Ralph Marasco, a prominent

figure in Omaha's real estate scene, Nico Marasco embodies a legacy of excellence and personalized service.

"My commitment to preserving my family's legacy is something I hold dear, and I strive to represent this through every interaction with my clients. I believe in offering Omaha residents more than just a house; I aim to create a space they can truly call their forever home,” Marasco said.

BLACKFORD LAW LLC

Attorney Brian J. Blackford has dedicated his career to advocating for the rights of immigrants.

“Immigration and immigrants have always been vital to our nation. Immigrant populations change over time, but their societal contributions in pursuit of the American Dream benefit us all. They should be celebrated, not demonized. I try to make their unique and often arduous legal journey as accessible and successful as possible,” Blackford said.

“We pride ourselves in providing honest and communicative representation. We want our clients to be involved and informed in every step of their immigration process. This personalized care helps us integrate the latest legal precedent and forms of relief available into an effective case strategy. Keeping families together is our guiding principle,” Blackford said.

According to Blackford, meeting, learning about, and advocating for people from all over the world is an experience like no other. “Witnessing true courage in our clients on a daily basis motivates me to be a better person and attorney,” Blackford added.

BLAZEK LAW GROUP

Attorney Molly Blazek is a local expert in guardianship by profession. She not only serves on the Nebraska Supreme Court’s Commission on Guardianships and Conservatorships, but she also makes it the focus of her law firm.

“We specialize exclusively in this area of law. Even if you find lawyers that represent clients in guardianship, they often won’t work as a guardian themselves,” Blazek said.

Because she serves as a guardian and conservator for vulnerable adults, not only does she understand the legal side–she also understands the practical side. She has a personal connection with her clients because of the experience she has serving as a guardian just like them.“We’re constantly innovating new resources to help Nebraska caregivers.

For example, every week at noon on Thursdays, we host a Guardianship clinic that is free for anyone to join. We created the Guardian Connect Now platform, including a Facebook group for connection and information. There are training videos and free downloads. There is an abundance of offerings to help guardians and conservators in their role,” Blazek said.

Today, he oversees a team of credentialed professionals who provide financial planning and wealth management services to a diverse group of clients. A Private Client Group within Northwestern Mutual, HFS is one of the top 15 teams within the national Fortune 200 company.

“I feel like we deliver a very concierge level of planning and service to our clients,” Harrison explained. “Our team is also engaged in the community, and we have a strong culture.”

Their commitment extends beyond financial guidance. Team members actively serve on local boards throughout the Metro area, and the firm’s annual signature event—a casino night fundraiser—raised over $100,000 last year alone for three charities.

Whether you’re navigating complex financial decisions or planning for future generations, the HFS team uses innovative, specialized planning tailored to your individual goals. Every plan is designed to reflect the unique lifestyle and vision of each client, guiding them toward long-term success.

At the heart of it all is gratitude, a guiding principle for HFS. One thing that remains a core focus for the team, Harrison said, is delivering on the firm’s purpose statement: “Helping families build a better life, legacy, and community.”

Allison Swenson ARTS & CULTURE OPERA OMAHA

As Nebraska’s only opera company, and one of the 20 largest opera companies in the United States, Opera Omaha produces new and fresh performances at the Orpheum Theater and other community venues. One of General Director Allison Swenson’s primary objectives is to reach and inspire more people with the shared joy of live performance.

“Adding more performances in more venues allows us to realize our mission and contribute more meaningfully to Omaha’s great cultural vibrancy. At a time when many American opera companies are reducing their output, we can do more because Omaha believes in the value of the arts in a strong community,” Swenson said.

Opera Omaha’s 2025-26 season expands from three opera productions to five, including performances at two new venues. The company engages internationally acclaimed talent, many of whom have performed at the world’s finest opera companies, including The Metropolitan Opera, the Paris Opera, and La Scala in Milan.

But Opera Omaha’s work extends beyond the stage. Through innovative engagement programs that make opera more equitable and relevant, Opera Omaha reaches schools, families, and community partners that would not otherwise have access to the arts.

Jon Wilson PATIO PAVERS

Founded in 2000, Omaha Backyard Living was already well-established when Jon Wilson took over ownership in 2015, so the team represents decades of expertise in outdoor transformation. The company’s reputation is built on quality, craftsmanship, and care, for results that are beautiful and durable.

“There is lot of experience in the group,” Wilson said. “Being named Best of Omaha for Outdoor Living Space was a huge win for us, too. We really do go the extra mile for our customers.”

The company’s broad range of landscaping and hardscaping services include retaining walls; custom patios and walkways; landscape design; fire pits and other fire features; fountains and water features; and landscape lighting. Omaha Backyard Living’s portfolio includes both residential and

commercial projects, with an impressive selection of examples in its online project gallery. The company is still evolving, Wilson added, meaning he expects expanded offerings in the future, along with continued growth.

“We’re also small enough where we’re very competitive,” he said. “We pride ourselves in a great product at a very fair price.”

Midwest Urgent Care has locations at 120th and Dodge and 167th and Maple, with both recently-renovated sites open seven days a week. So, it’s a convenient option when someone needs weekend or evening medical care and doesn’t want to wait to see their primary care physician, said Jon Wilson, who co-owns the clinics with wife Kristi.

Some patients without a primary care physician will visit an urgent care clinic for basic medical care, he added. Urgent care is also an alternative to a costly emergency room visit for an injury that may warrant stitches or x-rays. Plus, Midwest Urgent Care can even provide sports physicals.

Staffing is planned to reduce waiting times, Wilson said.

“Some urgent cares will try and see 50 patients per provider per day, we see less than that, which allows our providers to spend more time with the patient--it is not a rushed experience,” he said.

Joe Traynham PLUMBING

BURTON PLUMBING

Burton has been providing exceptional heating and air and plumbing service in the Omaha market for over 30 years. The last 25 years, they have been Best of Omaha in plumbing and HVAC.

Burton is a multi-services branch. They started in plumbing and HVAC, but over the years, they have expanded their services to include sewers, drains, electrical, generators, excavation, and commercial and new construction services.

The maintenance program helps customers maintain their systems so that they operate at the best level. A well-maintained HVAC system means

increased efficiency, which can lower energy costs and add to the overall life of your equipment. A maintained system will last five years longer than a system that isn’t properly maintained.

Helping in the community has been a key part of their business from the beginning. “It’s important because when you are dealing with people every day, you see the struggle for them to maintain their home and take care of their families. It’s important for us to

do what we can do to help folks in our community,” Joe Traynham said.

“We are committed to customer service and partnering in the community with organizations like the Nebraska Food Bank, Nebraska Humane Society, HETRA, and others. In December, we donated a full HVAC system to a needy family,” Traynham said.

Burton prides themselves in continuing education and offers tuition reimbursement to help them add to their expertise.

“We do customer experience training to make sure that we are delivering worldclass customer service—always focusing on the customer. Customers can schedule on the phone and on the website. We focus on safety for ourselves and the customers,” Traynham said.

“We continue to evolve with technology. This is all part of enhancing the customer experience,” Traynham added.

ORTHODONTICS

Daniel Chartrand, D.D.S., with Chartrand Orthodontics, prioritizes a warm and welcoming environment for patients, with cuttingedge technologies that allows them to provide more precise and comfortable treatments.

“We want people to feel that they are getting the best care possible. We don’t want them to feel rushed. We want them to feel heard and acknowledged,” Chartrand said.

“One of the most fulfilling aspects of my job is witnessing the transformation in my patients’ lives as they achieve beautiful, healthy smiles. I take immense joy in being part of their orthodontic journey, from the initial consultation to the moment they see their results,” Chartrand said.

“We focus on the whole body. We talk about how their teeth might affect other parts of their body. Sometimes we will incorporate other healthcare providers to help facilitate our treatment to give the best care for the patient,” Chartrand said.

“Building meaningful connections with my patients and contributing to their confidence and well-being is incredibly rewarding. I want people to know that our practice is not just a dental office; it’s a place where smiles are crafted and confidence is built,” Chartrand added.

Max I. Walker has been a pillar to the Omaha community for over a century. Their uniform rental service division has celebrated over 50 years in business with the fifth generation of the Walker family leading the way.

Technology, Community Stewardship, and Customer Service are the core values of their business.

“Our investment in technology makes us different. We use cutting edge technology for our products. UHF (Ultra High Frequency) chips allow our customers to know where their garments are at any point in time in the process at our plant,” Casey Walker said.

“Finding new and creative ways to give back is important to us. We did the Ultra Chic prom boutique for many

years. We have been part of Free Bikes 4 Kids. We are proud to be a part of that,” Chris Walker said.

“People want to choose local and do business locally,” Casey added. “We’re big enough to serve you and do whatever needs to be done, but small enough to care.”

“What you wear to work is important and we work to make sure that our clients look good,” Casey said.

“We make our ice cream from scratch. We use real cream and eggs. Our ice cream is considered ultra-premium. It’s a custard base because it has eggs,” Jeanne said. They also offer vegan and keto-friendly options.

The Benson location offers Cajun fare from the Taste of New Orleans by Chef Lee Franklin and Montoya Johnson. With 15 talented designers and two fully-staffed showrooms, Interiors Joan and Associates has seen remarkable growth since its founding in October 1963. Originally named “Interiors by Joan” in honor of founder Joan Sorensen, the firm’s current name reflects the collaborative spirit and expertise of the entire design team.

Today, the award-winning, family-owned firm is led by Kris Patton, a third-generation interior designer. She follows in the footsteps of her grandmother Joan Sorensen, her mother and former owner Diane Gernstein, and former partner Nancy Pesavento.

“As designers, we draw inspiration from everything around us,” Patton said. “Our understanding of a wide variety of styles keeps our approach fresh and distinctive.”

The firm places a strong emphasis on client relationships and personalized design. “We listen carefully, help clients explore ideas beyond their comfort zones, and introduce them to concepts they may not have imagined,” Patton explained. Rather than promoting trends or imposing their own preferences, the designers at Interiors Joan and Associates focus on helping each client discover their unique style—and bringing it beautifully to life.

ProsperSpark’s team provides professional consulting to more than 500 clients in the U.S. and Canada, using technology to create and automate business tools, systems, and processes.

“We simplify your processes and allow your data and systems to work for you, not the other way around,” said Brandon Zobel, CEO & owner. “We work with the tools you’re already using—or the ones you’ve been meaning to explore. We are continuing to add to our services, such as building portals and low-code apps and tools. ProsperSpark provides solutions that have a clear return on investment, Zobel said. “We work with all sizes, types, and industries when it comes to our clients…The one thing they have in common: not wanting to spend hours doing something that an automation can handle in seconds or minutes.”

Consultants are throughly vetted, U.S. and Canadian based. The company emphasizes transparency and results, Zobel said. Plus, ProsperSpark offers free project consultations and process-mapping sessions.

“More often than not, we find that clients simply don’t know what’s possible,” he said. “We discuss your needs, outline a few high-level solution options, and can generally give you a ballpark estimate during that free call. “We have intentionally targeted experienced recruiters and account managers who have been in the industry for a long time, who get it right, and we’ve created a culture and a work environment that is different from any agency that my partners and I ever worked for,” he said. “It really is a full team effort to make successful placements, and we rely on everybody in a very collaborative way.”

Both employers and job candidates are valued in the process, Jones said.

“We can’t have one without the other,” he explained. “We always strive to look out for both parties’ interests. We want to find good long-term matches. We want to be sure we’re helping candidates find opportunities that are going to advance their career and bring them satisfaction.”

We take a customized approach to designing outdoor lighting for homes and businesses,” explained Josh Reeves, who opened Midwest Lightscaping in April of 2011. “There’s a ton of little details that go into each project.”

Together, Josh and the other lighting designer at his firm possess over 30 years of lighting design experience. They are involved in lighting design organizations and spend time and energy educating others in their field.

The company’s focus on details extends to the work done by their installation team. “When our clients have watched my guys do the installation,” Josh noted, “they’ll comment on how meticulous they are and how hard they work. They’ll tell me, ‘I’m glad I did this.’”

The best part, though, is the big reveal at the end of each project. “When we finish a project, we want people to be wowed,” Josh said. “They’re speechless because they didn’t know what they were going to experience.”

Every project includes a maintenance plan to keep everything in good working order and looking as good as it did on day one.

The Hills Montessori has thrived since it opened in Omaha in 2012, Education Director Becki Jelinek-Carter said, so it’s no surprise that its second location—a converted house that opened last year in Elkhorn—has been very well-received.

“People are always amazed when they come into the building and it feels so homey,” she said. “We sit on 13 acres. It feels like you’re in the country, but we’re in the city. We have a huge garden, we have apple trees.”

The Elkhorn location has also started to partner on various projects with its neighbor, a senior living community called Symphony Pointe, fostering intergenerational connections.

Both locations are centered around the Montessori approach, named for

founder Maria Montessori, who established the inaugural “Children’s House” over a century ago in Rome, Italy. The model of progressive education and childcare offers a transformative learning experience inspired by Dr. Montessori’s profound insights into childhood development, JelinekCarter said, particularly the inherent drive for knowledge and autonomy.

Ismara Gonzalez SEAFOOD CUISINE

sla del mar” means “island of the sea” in Spanish, so it’s an apt reflection of Isla Del Mar Restaurante’s specialty: authentic Mexican seafood. However, owner and founder Ismara Gonzalez said, the restaurant’s offerings are quite diverse.

“We also have beef, we have chicken, we have sushi,” she said. “We are very passionate about what we do. We innovate…we keep bringing new items to the menu. That way people can come to us and there’s something new every time they come in.”

The extensive menu has been successful. Since its 2017 start, the company has already grown to three locations. In 2024, two franchises, La Michoacana Plus (featuring ice cream) and Con Azúcar Café

(featuring coffee), joined the Isla Del Mar West location. And there’s more ahead, Gonzalez added.

“We are planning on expanding, but want to do it as a franchise,” she said.

“I think the best way to do it right now will be finding people who are interested in the brand—we have several people—and just go from there.”

Dave Nelson CORPORATE BRANDING

As SecretPenguin celebrates 25 years in business, its purpose remains clear, founder and creative director Dave Nelson said: “We design brands that lead to word-of-mouth marketing.”

The company’s unique Iceberg Build™ branding process is both simple and effective. “Identity” means standout visuals and clear messaging people are proud to be part of, Nelson said. “Experiential” means creating memorable moments and unique touch points people are happy to talk about.

“We are very grateful to be able to participate in making the community better and more fun through thoughtful design and collaboration with our clients,” Nelson said. “We’re excited for the next 25 years.”

SecretPenguin is also innovative.

“We’ve built a thoughtful layer into our process we call Neuro-Inclusive by Design™, a framework to ensure every experience we design considers sensory needs, accessibility, and inclusion—especially for neurodivergent individuals,” Nelson said. “The designs look better, the messaging is more clear—it’s a win/win for everyone… With 15 to 20% of the U.S. population being neurodivergent, it’s quite the oversight to not approach design this way, in our opinion.”

Tamiko Thomas AUTHOR TAMIKO THOMAS

Tamiko Thomas had a successful 21-year career as a licensed practical nurse specializing in geriatrics, but she had other dreams, too. In 2025, she took what she describes as a “leap of faith” to become a selfpublished author. “30-Day Journey to Self-Love” includes journaling prompts, activities, and lessons to help girls navigate growing pains, build confidence, and focus on inner beauty.

“There’s no handbook for parenting, and tough conversations aren’t always easy,” Thomas said. “Many girls struggle with self-esteem. This journal aims to ease anxiety and promote self-love. Even when things seem dark, there’s always light—though it may be blurry.”

Tamiko also founded Evolutional Care Nebraska (ECN), an organization focused on empowering youth and individuals with disabilities. ECN

offers esteem-building programs for girls and writing instruction—including grammar, sentence structure, and storytelling—for high-functioning individuals with disabilities. ECN also provides training in CPR, home health medication aid, and Mandt System behavioral crisis interaction.

“I’ve always been a creative thinker and love helping others, so combining the two felt natural,” Thomas said.

Nate Kloxin SAUNAS PERSPIRE SAUNA STUDIO

As Perspire Sauna Studio celebrates the five-year anniversary of its first Omaha location, the company has already introduced a second location and is expecting to expand even more in coming years, said franchisee Nate Kloxin. Perspire is the area’s first and only sauna studio, with nine private sauna rooms at each location available for booking throughout the day.

“We want Omaha to become healthier. We want to help people ignite their wellness within, to live longer and be healthier in those later years,” Kloxin said. “A lot of people haven’t tried infrared saunas before. We want them to try something new that could be added to their wellness routine.”

Perspire’s infrared sauna studios use infrared waves to gently heat the body, penetrating the skin, muscles, joints, and tissues to improve blood circulation and oxygen flow, and to help remove impurities.

The studio provides towels and each sanitized room has a smart TV.

“It’s way better than going home and sitting on your couch watching Netflix,” Kloxin said. “You can watch Netflix here and do something good for your body.”

Drs. Claire and Mark Rathjen PHYSICAL THERAPY

C.O.R.E. PHYSICAL THERAPY & SPORTS PERFORMANCE

“Alot of times, people think they have to go wherever is tied to their physician group, or to a hospital-based clinic,” said Dr. Claire Rathjen, who owns C.O.R.E. Physical Therapy & Sports Performance with her husband, Dr. Mark Rathjen. “They don’t realize that they legitimately have a choice in where they get to go.”

C.O.R.E. provides the latest researchbased and cutting-edge treatment programs and interventions for physical therapy, so it’s an excellent choice, Rathjen said.

“More and more patients are coming in to say, ‘Hey, can I meet you? Can I see the clinic and check it out?’” she said. “They want to do their research if they’re having surgery or if they’re going to be going through an extended period of rehab.”

A fifth physical therapist is expected to join the practice sometime in 2025, Rathjen said.

“We want to grow at the appropriate speed where we’re able to accommodate that increasing patient population,” she said. “But we’re not willing to sacrifice our level of quality care that people have come to expect.”

As Heimann emphasized, it’s time to break the stigma of sports bars being just beerand-game joints—the focus must shift to top-tier hospitality, elevated guest experiences, non-traditional sports bar food, and intentional community engagement that sets a higher bar for the industry.

t Good Life Sports Bar & Grill, we understand that the essence of sports extends beyond the thrill of the game; it’s about community, camaraderie, and shared experiences,” said Owner and Manager Lori Heimann. “Embracing this philosophy, we are committed to evolving from a traditional sports bar into a cornerstone of our neighborhoods, fostering deeper connections and serving as a true community partner.” The manifestation of this philosophy includes designating community outreach partners and collaborating on events, supporting local initiatives, and contributing positively to the neighborhoods the business serves, Heimann explained. The Good Life’s commitment to excellence is also reflected in the quality of food prepared primarily from scratch, from a signature hand cut fresh per order wing to smoked gouda mac & cheese— all delivered with unparalleled service. “Our goal is to create an environment where everyone feels welcome—a place where memorable

Gunnar Brown WINDOW WELL COVERS

GUARDIAN WINDOW WELL COVERS

When Gunnar Brown and his wife built their new home in 2016, they discovered an unexpected safety hazard: a 6-foot-deep egress window well where their kids and pets played. Omaha didn’t have a supplier of window well covers at that time, so Gunnar decided to address an unmet need. He filed the LLC for Guardian Window Well Covers in 2017 and started doing business in March 2018.

During the R&D stage, the company developed prototypes that were strong, durable, and aesthetically pleasing. The company went from doing 68 installations in 2018 to 1,270 in 2024.

“We offer a turnkey service,” Gunnar noted. “We come out and do the measurements, and then we fabricate, deliver, install, and warranty them. We

truly stand behind our products, and we make sure the entire process is a pleasant experience for our customers.”

Gunnar wants to thank all his friends, family, and the Omaha community for all the support. It truly has been the fuel to making Guardian a success.

our Omaha team continues to grow. But FHU’s commitment to Nebraska goes beyond the workday. “We live here, we give back here, and we invest in the next generation of problem-solvers,” Meisinger adds. “Omaha is home. Gary and Diane Wieker COMMERCIAL CLEANING

Finding high-quality employees is not a major challenge for Gary and Diane Wieker, owners of Sparkling Klean.

“We have a lot of good people that work for us, so we have people coming in and applying from other janitorial companies because they’ve heard so many good things about our company,” Gary said. “We treat people with respect, and we make their job as easy and manageable as possible. We figure out the most efficient way to clean a facility, and the chemicals we use are top-of-the-line, biodegradable, non-toxic, user-friendly, and effective. We have low turnover, and our top managers have been with us for more than 25 years.”

Clients stay with Sparkling Klean for decades, too. “We still clean the first building that we got 41 years ago when Chuck Durham took a chance on a new company by hiring us to clean the Durham Plaza building. We still clean that building along with many others that we’ve had for a number of years,” Diane noted. “As far as our clients are concerned, our people are on their team. Our clients feel secure because they know the people who are coming in to clean their building.”

“We partner with foundations and endowments to manage both their financial resources and their mission, vision, and values. By understanding what drives their purpose, we’re better equipped to support their growth and be a trusted, long-term partner,” said CEO Kim Cappellano.

Launched in September 2021, the firm spans eight cities. In 2024, they were named in Forbes as #207 in a list of the Top 1% of RIAs in the Country. One thing that makes them different is that they operate as an outsourced family

“Everything comes down to people. What sets our approach apart is the deeply personal relationships we build with the families we serve. We lead with authenticity and transparency, offering not just ideas and advice—but the follow-through to help bring them to life. Matthew Tompkins PODCASTS

Matthew and Ben Tompkins never set out to build Omaha’s premier podcast production studio—they just wanted to make people laugh. What began as a sketch comedy show, Omaha Live, filmed in their dad’s church basement, led to a surprise television hit following Saturday Night Live on NBC. But success doesn’t always pay the bills.

After the show ended, Matthew returned to radio—hosting nationally— but the dream lingered. In October 2020, he gave it one last shot. No network. No backup plan. Just two brothers and a belief in their vision.

Two Brothers Creative was reborn— not just as content producers, but as storytellers. They understood what modern marketing is really

about: authentic content that serves. Forget pushy ads—today’s audiences crave connection. That’s where the Tompkins brothers shine.

From hot takes on branding to heartfelt podcasts, their studio helps businesses find their voice, build trust, and educate listeners and businesses on podcasting.

Because in the kingdom of modern media, content isn’t just king. It’s the whole empire.

Carly Urbach FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY

CARLY URBACH PHOTOGRAPHY

Aprofessional photo shoot should result in images that are meaningful to the family and evoke memories for years to come, said Carly Urbach of Carly Urbach Photography. That means not only bringing special toys and outfits along for the kids, but also including Mom and Dad in at least a few of the photos.

“I’ve seen the parents with the baby, and then, throughout the years, for the big milestones. Even with my seniors,” she said. “It’s fun to have that sort of juxtaposition of a photo of you with the kids when they are so small, and then one when they’re towering over you.”

Urbach said she makes sure to regularly freshen up studio props and backdrops for both indoor and outdoor settings.

“We’re always doing different props and painting walls…kind of fun and new,” she said. “We try to keep things updated.”

It takes time and effort to create lifelong keepsakes, Urbach added, but clients tell her it’s worth capturing the moments.

“It’s that nostalgic feeling,” she said. “Time goes by in a blink.”

We schedule one-on-one appointments for our dog and cat pet grooming services, similar to the way hair appointments are scheduled for humans,” said Andrew Bishoff of Pets Earth. “We are willing to provide walk-in services like nail trims, but our primary service model is based on having one groomer working with your pet from start to finish.”

When grooming has been completed, the owner is notified that their pet is ready to be picked up. This ensures that pets are reunited with their owners as soon as possible.

Pets Earth is family and locally owned and operated. The company is close to employing about 40 people between all three locations. “Our emphasis is on quality over quantity,” Andrew noted. “It’s not about how many groomers we

have, it’s about the skill and attitude of the individual groomer.”

When the first location opened in Papillion in 2012, it was the first pet store in the Omaha area to offer grooming, self-serve wash, retail, and a bakery. Since 2012, Pets Earth grooming services has grown tremendously, however, it still focuses on the nutritional aspects of retail and other products and services.

We offer services that are as good as anywhere in the world,” added Moline. “It’s been fun to work across the state, from Scottsbluff to Wayne to Omaha, to connect people throughout the state in large and small communities and play a meaningful part of giving Nebraska the second-highest access to fiber of any state in the union.”

New patients frequently connect to Westfield Plastic Surgery Center because of a personal referral by a trusted friend or family member who shared an outstanding patient experience. The practice has also been voted Best of Omaha in multiple categories year after year. This reflects patient satisfaction, both with the results of their treatments or procedures and the caring service from everyone on the team, said board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Nagi T. Ayoub.

“We’re committed to innovation, education, and the patient experience,” he said. “We really keep that in the forefront and then live it every day, whether we’re hiring people, learning new procedures, or buying new equipment and technology.”

Ayoub said he expects to announce some facility expansions in the next year for his privately-owned and

independent practice, which has been in the community for 25 years. The Westfield Plastic Surgery Center team is still growing to meet demand.

“Last year, we hired a PA, nurses, and an aesthetician,” Ayoub said. “We have a perfect, well-balanced team.”

In 2015, Carmen Tapio opened North End Teleservices to create jobs and change lives. Ten years later, the company’s economic impact surpasses half a billion dollars. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce in 2024 named it among the top 100 U.S. small businesses. The company serves clients in the private and public sector, providing outsourced contact center services.

“We are a part of the largest service contract in the United States government,” Tapio explained. “Much of the work we do in the public sector is considered vital to our country and our state.”

Carmen attributes the company’s success to the excellence of their people. “When you believe in people and support them anyway you can to help

them become individually successful, then their families, the community and the business is successful as well,” she said. On the wall behind Tapio are the names of some of the people that have come through North End Teleservices’ doors. In their own way, they each represent the impact and lives changed through jobs created at North End Teleservices.

Candice Price & Ron Devers

After years of steady growth and community trust, Home Team Auto Sales (HTAS) has entered a new chapter, defined by expansion, impact, and deepened service. This year, HTAS proudly announced the purchase of its third building, a 20,000-square-foot facility that further expands its ability to serve Omaha’s growing transportation needs.

“We’re excited to grow not just in space, but in service,” says Owner and Sales Manager Candice Price. “With the new building, we’ll have room for expanded operations, a stronger inventory, and more opportunities to serve our community.”

Alongside quality pre-owned vehicles, flexible financing, and a trusted repair center, HTAS continues to innovate. Their Employee Vehicle Purchase & Repair Program allows local businesses to offer their staff discounted vehicle purchases, repair services, and

financing support, even for those with challenged credit.

“This program has been a game changer for many working families,” Candice explains. “Reliable transportation means security, and we’re proud to partner with other businesses to make that possible.”

Co-owner and Service Center Manager Ron Devers adds, “We’re not just here to sell cars, we’re here to keep customers moving. Our commitment goes beyond the sale, providing reliable

repairs, preventative maintenance, and honest advice to help customers protect their investments.”

Home Team remains rooted in community, driven by purpose, and committed to making car ownership accessible and sustainable. As they continue to grow, one thing stays the same: Home Team Auto Sales is here to serve reliably, honestly, and with heart.

Wendy Wiseman COMMUNITY BUILDING AND ENGAGEMENT

CEO Wendy Wiseman describes Constellation Collective as “a fullservice marketing partner that builds brands and businesses,” neatly encapsulating a suite of services from an expert team with a handle on the complex and dynamic nature of marketing.

“We make it our business to know our clients’ businesses like the back of our hands,” she said. “We go to great lengths to understand their goals, where they are in the marketplace, and their competitors. We build strategic marketing campaigns around that with an emphasis on whom they want to reach and what they want that target to know, think, and feel about their brand.”

Wiseman said she’s proud of being part of a woman-founded and owned company that’s successfully evolved over 35 years without losing sight of the fundamentals.

“We work really hard to bring what we know about the core tenets of marketing to the market,” she said. “It’s changing every day, and we keep our finger on the pulse, but there are still these core tenets. It’s a successful recipe no matter how the channels change.”

Gene Klein CHILD ADVOCACY

In the mid-1990s, there were about 30 centers across the country that were trying to improve the process for children who were making the outcry of maltreatment,” recalled Gene Klein, CEO, LCSW. “Project Harmony adapted ideas from other communities and then created its own vision of collaboration between city, county, state, and federal government, facilitated by a nonprofit organization that filled the gaps.”

Project Harmony’s approach is so effective that it is used as a model by other communities.

“In 2001, we served about 300 children a year, and today we serve over 10,000,” Gene noted. “Years ago, when I would give a tour, often someone would pull me aside and say, ‘I wish there had been something like this

when I was a kid.’ Today, I hear from people who say, ‘I was here when I was a kid, and I’m doing great.’”

Gene credited the Omaha community for much of Project Harmony’s success. “When we have a need in our community, people ask, ‘How can we help?’ and then they get involved and make an impact,” he said.

12 POINTS

To protect businesses from malicious hackers, the experts at 12 Points Technologies take a highly customized, multi-layered approach to designing each client’s cybersecurity plan.

“We start off by learning about our client’s business,” explained Trish Cody, who co-founded 12 Points Technologies with her husband, Tony Cody, in 2015. “We find out what they are trying to achieve, and we learn how their employees typically work so we can identify areas of risk and abnormal activity patterns.”

“Our approach includes a robust cybersecurity suite as a standard requirement, with a focus on prevention.” Tony added. “Should a threat evade the many layers of controls,

12pointsinc.com our solution triggers rapid detection, automated containment, and accelerated remediation to minimize impact and restore normal operations quickly.” Awareness training is also part of the solution, including fake phishing emails and training videos.

Communication and support are ongoing, Trish emphasized. “On a quarterly basis, we work with our clients to re-evaluate their business requirements and their network infrastructure, assess their security and compliance posture, and provide information about new threats or regulations,” she said.
