GOLF CLASSIC Raises OVER $15K for Scholarship Support

In what was the school’s only in-person fundraising event of the 2020-21 school year, generous sponsors, community partners and participants of the 38th Annual Steve Dean Classic came together on Monday, September 21, to raise over $15,000 for the Steve Dean ’67 Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund. The tournament sold out in record time with 192 golfers participating.
This year, the $5,000 scholarship was awarded to Ayomide Idowu ’22. The fund was created 38 years ago in honor of Steve Dean ’67, who passed away in 1976 due to complications related to cerebral palsy. Ayomide embodies Steve’s love of Good Counsel through his involvement in academic, social and athletic programs. The 39th Annual Steve Dean Golf Classic is planned for Monday, September 13, at Manor Country Club.

The annual Saint Francis Xavier Dinner is always a celebration of those faithful donors who give $1,000 to the school, whether through the Fund for Good Counsel, the Community Partners program, for scholarships or other restricted areas of need. This year, due to the inability to host in-person gatherings, the dinner was reinvented and reimagined with donors invited to a virtual Wine, Whiskey and Winter Spritzer Appreciation Event.
Over 100 attended the virtual celebration and members of the Advancement team personally hand delivered a special thankyou gift box for the evening containing the contents needed for wine, whiskey and winter spritzer tasting. Current parents Aimee Loebs-Davis and her husband, Jeff Davis, owners of Tasting Consulting, LLC, joined Master Distiller Jeff Duckhorn to help host breakout rooms where donors got to sample the gifts they were provided and learn about pairings of the drinks with food. Donors heard from President Paul Barker about the importance of philanthropy during the trying times of the COVID-19 pandemic.
