Thisthreeyearactionplanservesasacomplementtotheschool’sstrategicplanandwill focusexclusivelyonadvancingcriticalprioritiesintheareasofCampusMinistryand MulticulturalAffairsandInclusionasitrelatestothe2024XBSSMissionEffectiveness Reviewand2024ClimateAssessmentofOurLadyofGoodCounselHighSchool.This document,FaithfullyLivingOutOurCalls,isguidedbythecharismandmissionofthe XaverianBrothersandseekstoarticulatehowtheOfficeofMissionandIdentity (establishedin2024)isinspiredbyandadvancingthecallsofXaverianBrothersSponsored Schools.

Webeginthisplanbyhighlightingthecalls.

AsunderscoredinPartnersinMission:UnderstandingtheXaverianWay“theXaverian charismcallsustocontinuallyreflectuponourXaverian-Catholicidentitytoassessand evaluateourprograms,procedures,andpoliciesinlightoftheteachingsoftheCatholic ChurchandtheidealsandpracticesarticulatedinthedescriptionoftheXaveriancharism.”

AsthediversityoftheGoodCounselcommunitycontinuestogrow,wearecontinually blessedwiththeopportunitytobuildonthestrengthsofourcommunity;explore opportunitiesforgreaterunderstandingoftheculturesandperspectivesinourcommunity; evangelizeandformanddiscipleswithinourcommunity;andadaptourprogrammingto meettheneedsandprovidewholesomedevelopmenttothemembersofourcommunity.

Thepillarsofworkpresentedinthisdocumentarticulatehowweintendtooperationalize ourcallsandalsorespondtorecommendationsfromGoodCounsel’s2024XBSSMission Effectiveness Reviewand2024ClimateAssessment.Inanefforttominimizeduplication andmaintainthecomplementarynatureofthisplantotheschool’sstrategicplan,this documentfocusesonmoreimmediateinitiativestobecarriedoutbytheOfficeofMission andIdentity.ThereisalsoanunderlyingassumptionthattheofficesofCampusMinistry andMulticulturalAffairsandInclusionwillmaintaintheleveloffundingandstaffing requiredtocarryouttheactivitiesoutlinedinthisplan,asindicatedintheOurLadyof GoodCounsel2024-2029strategicplan.Further,thoughthisplanhasbeenlimitedtothree years,werecognizetheneedtohaveatrulylivingdocumentthatcanberevisedand expandedasneededtoeffectivelyrespondtoforthcominginstitutionalrecommendations andtheneedsoftheschoolcommunity.

Theschool’sstrategicplanidentifiestheneedtodeepenfaithformationexperiencesat GoodCounsel.AndbyinvitationoftheXaverianBrothers,wearecalledaseducatorsto develop“thoughtfulandinquisitiveleadersinfusedwiththewisdomoftheGospels.”The OfficeofMissionandIdentitywillprioritizethefollowingactionsinanefforttonurture ourstudentsandtofurtherrealizethisoverarchinggoal

Developaplanforanintersectionaleducationalseriesforallcommunitystakeholdersstudents,faculty/staff,parents,board,andalumnirootedintheXaveriancharismsand spiritualvalues.

Inthe2025-2026schoolyear:

IncollaborationwiththePresident,incorporateadeepreflectionoftheXaverian missionandvaluesintothePresidentialleadershipteam’ssummer/annualplanning Formallyre-establishtheFacultyFaithFormationCommitteetorevivebiblestudy, prayerandfellowship,andadviseonministrytothecommunity.

Providededicatedsupportandstructuretostudent-ledbiblestudies

Exploreinnovativemethodsoffaithformationandtoconnectwithstudentsthrough theirpreferredplatforms(ieBibleApps,Hallow).

Inthe2026-2027schoolyear:

DevelopandleadanannualretreatfocusedonXaverianandCatholicidentityfor membersoftheentireschoolleadershipteamthataffordstime/spaceforspiritual discernmentanddevelopsasharedunderstandingoftheXaverianmissionandvalues, whichguideourapproachtoformingyoungpeopletobefaith-filledcontemplative leaderswhoaddresstheevolvingneedsofourworld.

Informedbytheengagementandparticipationofrelevantstakeholdergroups, establishaXaverianFormationCouncilthatincludesupperclassmenstudents,parents, faculty/staff,andalumni.

ProvideopportunitiesforGoodCounselstudentstocollaborateandparticipateina jointmissionbasedinitiative(worship,service,cultural,etc)withanotherXBSS memberschoolonatleastanannualbasis.

Institutionalizationofour Mission&Relationships

Inordertomeaningfullyadvancekeycomponentsofthestrategicplan,theOfficeofMission andIdentityrecognizestheneedtoensurethatallleadersandstakeholderswithintheGood Counselcommunityunderstandandsupporttheschool’sinstitutionalmission.Thispillar seekstofostercollaborationthroughoutourcommunity;andasenvisionedbyourfounder, TheodoreJamesRyken,to“mutually,help,encourage,andedifyoneanother,andtowork together.”

Launchaformalorientationprogramforparents,especiallynewparents,tounderstand whatitmeanstobeanXBSSschoolandhowourXaveriancharismimpactstheirchild’s education.

CollaboratewiththeAthleticDepartmentandcoachestomoreintentionallyintegrate Xaverianmissionandvaluesintotheinstruction,mentoring,andcoachingofstudentathletes.

Developaretreatprogramtargetedforstudent-athleteswithagoalofreinforcingthe XaverianspiritualvaluesandbelongingatGoodCounsel.
