Student Fees and Associated Costs A short term study course can also be arranged for any period of time during the year. Please enquire about fees. All fees are to be paid in advance. Part payment for a full year course can be arranged. Administration fee (non refundable)

$ 500.00

Tuition Fees (for a full year course) $12,500.00 (This covers classroom tuition, ESOL, text books, subject fees, Government tax, access to school internet and library, transport to and from airport) Medical and Travel Insurance $ 600.00 (If arranged through the school or evidence of own arrangements must be provided) Accommodation Homestay fee per week $ 240.00 (This covers all meals, laundry, reasonable travel to and from school and activities, not excessive internet use or international telephone calls.) Additional Costs Uniform (approx) $ 500.00 Stationery (approx) $ 100.00 Exam fees (on application as it depends what exams will be sat.) Possible Additional costs Music lessons and instrument hire Class trips/camps Sports Personal clothing and spending Private phone calls and internet use It is recommended that a payment of $1800.00 for the additional costs be banked with school which can be accessed as required with any unused portion being refunded to the parent on departure of the student. Holidays During school holidays students may be taken on holiday with their host family. If the student arranges their own holiday this is at their expense and they must receive permission from the co-ordinator and their parents prior to all arrangements being made. Accommodation Tokomairiro High School requires that all international students live in one of the following types of accommodation  With a parent  With a relative or close family friend as designated by their parents  In a school approved homestay Parents will fill in an accommodation request form so that a homestay can be arranged for the student. All accommodation including that designated by the parents will be checked to ensure that it will provide a safe, clean and comfortable environment for the student as specified in the Code of Practice. Homestay providers are police vetted. Parents will need to sign an indemnity document giving their authority for their child to stay with the designated caregiver. The International student coordinator will provide parents with details of how to contact their child and give information on the homestay provider. After fees have been paid the parents will receive  Receipt - attach this to your Offer of Place for the visa application  Information on emergencies, accidents and communicating with your child  Agreement with International Students - form to be signed and returned Parents need to provide  Evidence of medical insurance if providing own  Evidence that student has an up to date passport and visa  Travel plans to NZ, arrival and departure times All documents can be faxed, emailed or posted to the school as detailed on the front of this booklet.

Courses The courses at Tokomairiro High School focus on educating the whole child, emotionally, intellectually, socially and personally. Students are challenged with opportunities to participate in a range of academic, cultural, sporting and technology programmes. Tokomairiro High School is a public or state school. Orientation  

     

On arrival at Dunedin airport the student will be met by a representative of the school and if possible their homestay family. The homestay family will familiarise the student with the town of Milton and traffic laws, help them open a bank account, show them how to get to school including taking them on the first day and help with the purchase of the school uniform and stationery. Students will be met on their first day at school by Mrs Gilling. Students will be provided with an orientation programme by member/s of the International Department on arrival at Tokomairiro High School. They will work in liaison with classroom teachers to ensure the student is adapting to the school environment. International Department staff will meet regularly to continue to monitor the student’s progress. Translators will be available if necessary. Parents may ring the school at any time to discuss queries or concerns

Emergencies Parents need to inform the school of any change of contact details for themselves or the emergency contact. In the event of an emergency the parents will be notified as soon as possible. Health and Safety In some cases the school may be unable to guarantee the health and well being of the student, because the student has issues relating to mental and physical health that are not disclosed prior to enrolment or arise after arrival. In such cases the Principal reserves the right to return the student to their home country.

Conditions of Acceptance English Requirements Courses are not conditional on a given level of English ability however acceptance to sit exams is based on the ability of the student at the time. Students must be at a minimum level of intermediate English if they wish to sit NCEA Level 1 and for starting an IELTS class. Students will be tested on their English ability in writing, reading, listening and speaking in the orientation period. Payment of fees Refund policy as below is accepted and all school policies will be abided by. Student has medical and travel insurance The student must observe the rules of the school and the laws of New Zealand.

Refund Policy If a student withdraws from his/her course of study before the completion date, he/she may be eligible for a refund of tuition fees. If a refund is requested, the following procedures and guidelines will apply: To be eligible for a Refund:  To be eligible for a refund, parents must apply in writing to the Board of Trustees setting out the special circumstances of the claim within one month of the last day of attendance. You must also complete the official leaving process and attach the leaving certificate.  In every case, the school undertakes to look fairly at applications for a refund of fees or part-fees. If the application is made before the start of the course:  Fees will be refunded in full, less the Administration Fee of $500.00 . This includes if a student is not granted a student permit to attend Tokomairiro High School. If the application is made after the start of the course (i.e. in Terms 1 or 2), but before the second half of the course (i.e. Terms 3 & 4): Fees will be refunded less:  An Administration Fee of NZ $500.00  Costs to the school already incurred for tuition  Components of the fee already committed for the duration of the course  Specialist fees (if applicable)

Appropriate proportions of salaries for teachers and support staff (if applicable) Costs already incurred for the use of facilities and resources Any other costs already incurred.

If the application is made after the second half of a course:  There will be no refund, except under exceptional circumstances. Compassionate Refunds below.)

Compassionate Refunds:  In exceptional circumstances, refunds may be granted on compassionate grounds (e.g. death of a close family member, serious illness, accident). All such refunds will be at the discretion of the Principal and the Board of Trustees. If an international fee-paying student gains residency during their course:  No further fees are to be paid. Tokomairiro High School does not issue a refund on Tuition Fees. The new resident will then abide by the school enrolment scheme. Documentation of residency must be provided within 14 days of it being granted. The Board of Trustees will make no refund:  When a student is required to leave the school for a breach of the rules and conditions of enrolment at the school or has broken a New Zealand law.  Where a student has been stood-down, suspended or excluded  Where a student returns home for any reason other than serious illness, accident or death of a close family member  If the enrolment application is found to be inaccurate in any way and the contract is terminated  If a student wants to transfer to another school or educational institution Homestay Fees If you move out of your Homestay before the end of your Contract:  All other unused Homestay Fees will be refunded, provided the Homestay has been given two weeks’ notice that the student is leaving  If the student does not give two weeks’ notice, then two weeks’ Homestay fees will be deducted from any refund. Payment of Refunds:  All refunds will be paid to either the parents of the student or to an agent with written authority from the parents. No refunds will be given directly to the student. Fees Protection:  The School has a fee protection policy to safeguard the fees paid by International Students, in the unlikely event that the school may not be able to continue delivering tuition to the international student. This policy ensures that the school retains sufficient funds to meet the requirements of any refund in these circumstances. N.B. The New Zealand Immigration Service will be notified if any student ceases to attend Tokomairiro High School for whatever reason.
