International Profile
- Dr Azmat Khan Johan Lundström Vigert Sjözing What is your current position here at KI? I’m here on the Linneaus-Palme teacher exchange program for 6 weeks. My main tasks are to exchange knowledge, odontologic views and try to give a picture of Pakistani dentistry and cultural so teachers here will be interested in going to Pakistan. Why did you want to become a dentist in the first place?
Well all my family are doctors. I also applied for medical education but when I was accepted I already begun studying dentistry and didn’t want to change. Dentistry is in my opinion a better job with less stress and you get a good quality of life. But in comparison with other jobs it’s still stressful and you have to be good at your work, both clinical and theoretically. Where did you get your education? I got my BDS in Hyderabad, Pakistan in 1977 and educated myself in operative dentistry and then I took 1 year course in orthodontics in the US. Where do you work now? I’ve been in private practice in Karachi with my husband since 1993 and been a teacher at Altamash institute of dental medicine (AIDM) in Karachi since 2002. I teach for approx. 10 hours a week but prefer that to working in private practice. Any interests besides teeth’s? Well I do golf, go to the gym every day, play tennis and love throwing big parties as often as I can...Oh and I love cooking too.
Totally honest, what do you think about Swedish students work? Not bad at all, you’re very good in prevention, legal aspects and you are very organized. I would like to take this more complete view of a patient back with me to AIDM in Karachi. And finally I would like to add that I hope more Swedish students would get the chance to come to AIDM in Karachi, think this exchange is very beneficial for both Swedish and Pakistani students and teachers.
