Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child

Preston and Child discuss the tremendous new thriller in their #1 bestselling series featuring FBI Special Agent Pendergast and Constance Greene, “The Cabinet of Dr. Leng.” Books available for purchase. A book signing will follow. (60 min.) Preregister.

The thrillers of Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child “stand head and shoulders above their rivals” (Publishers Weekly). Preston and Child’s “Relic” and “The Cabinet of Curiosities” were chosen by readers in a National Public Radio poll as being among the one hundred greatest thrillers ever written, and “Relic” was made into a number one box office hit movie. They are co-authors of the famed Pendergast series, and their recent novels include “Bloodless,” “The Scorpion’s Tail,” “Crooked River,” “Old Bones” and “Verses for the Dead”. In addition to his novels, Preston writes about archaeology for the New Yorker and Smithsonian magazines. Child is a Florida resident and former book editor who has published seven novels of his own, including such bestsellers as “Full Wolf Moon” and “Deep Storm”.

Huey MeetS our County Government

Huey our Holiday elf along with his friends Holly and Mensch visited with past and current members of the PBC Board of County Commissioners as well as County Administrator Verdenia Baker. Meanwhile, Assistant County Administrator Todd Bonlarron had a wonderful time reading with Huey’s friend Mensch. The Board of County Commissioners serves as the legislative and policy-setting body for County government; they enact Countywide laws and authorize programs and all expenditures of County funds. They also act as the Child Care Facilities Board, the Solid Waste Authority Governing Board, the Environmental Control Board and the Zoning Board.

Seven Commissioners are elected from single-member districts to staggered four-year terms to represent the entire County. The Board of County Commissioners generally meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month for public hearings and regular agenda items. During the first meeting of the month, with the exception of August, citizens may offer comments on any issue or topic during Matters by the Public. Workshops are usually held on the fourth Tuesday of the month. All meetings are streamed live on PBC-TV Channel 20 at www.pbcgov.com.

Related educational exhibits, interactive displays and entertainment will make the Fair a DINO-MYTE place to be!

“Presidents and Their First Ladies, Dramatically Speaking” is the creation of the veteran acting and writing team of husband and wife, William and Sue Wills. After 20 years of operating their own theatrical company in the resort of Ocean City, Maryland, the couple is now in their 26th year of bringing to life the stories of 35 different Presidential couples. Amazingly, the Wills’ have appeared together on stage over 9,100 times … and still counting. They are not “impersonators,” but hope that their costumes, dialects and demeanors will help recreate these historical characters.

Mr. and Mrs. Wills have performed in 36 of our 50 states and have given over 30 performances at seven of the nation’s Presidential museums. They are a true working team with William researching and creating the scripts while Sue edits his work and creates the costumes, many of her own design.

In 2013, the couple created an IRS-recognized nonprofit, Presidents Project, Inc. which has donated over $22,000 to organizations that help wounded soldiers and their families.

With their “Presidents and First Ladies” activity series, William and Sue hope that by presenting the personal side of our first couples, they will become more than just names read about in history books.

Today they proudly present to us the story of our 31st President and First Lady: Herbert and Lou Hoover

“Herbert Hoover caused the depression” and who even has heard the name Lou Hoover — this might be many people’s first reaction to this couple and how wrong they would be! The Hoovers story is a great story of love, partnership, and national and international good works and fame. They might also be the Presidential couple who cared for and did the most for children.

Explore All the Possibilities

Our Libraries Are So Much More than Books

When was the last time you thought about what a library has to offer? The first thought for most is just books, but there is so much more! Libraries are a place of ideas, media and activities for both adults and children. Unlike the internet where considerable amounts of information needs inspecting, libraries are a trusted source of information. The resources available at your local Library have been continuously expanding to incorporate more technology resources and digital media. The best part is we bring access to information and resources completely for free! Here is more of what our Libraries offer:

Computers

Borrow Materials

A cardholder may borrow up to 50 items including: adult, teen or children’s books, music CDs, audiobooks and DVDs/Blu-ray Discs.

Get Research Assistance

Our professional Research Librarians can help you find answers and informaon on whatever topic you need either in-person, over the phone or through our website. Most branches offer Book-A-Librarian sessions for one-on-one assistance.

Use one of many public computers at any branch to check your email, search the Library catalog, use online resources, get informaon about your account and surf the internet. Free computer classes are also offered virtually and in-person at some branches.

Kids That Read, Succeed

Borrow books, audiobooks and movies just for kids. Enjoy classes, acvies, films and special events throughout the year.

Explore Online Resources

If you are eligible for a Library card, you can have instantaneous access to the majority of our online resources. Apply for a Temporary Research Access Code (TRAC) and the system will email you a unique access code, valid for 30 days. If a TRAC is lost or expired, you only need to reapply to get a new code — it’s that easy. TRAC users do not have access to downloadable e-books, audiobooks, music, magazines, movies and TV. To place holds, borrow materials, use e-books or other downloadable content, you will need a Library card.

Learn About Your Ancestors

The Palm Beach County Genealogical Society Library is located in the Main Library and open to the public Tue - Thu 10:00 am - 4:00 pm, Fri 10:00 am - 1:00 pm and Mon by appointment only.

The Library Comes to You

The Bookmobile travels the County and stops at more than 40 locaons. Talking Books is a free service that provides Braille and recorded materials to anyone legally blind, visually impaired or physically handicapped in such a way that they cannot hold a book. Books-By-Mail offers materials for those who are homebound.

Learn to Read

The Adult Literacy Project trains volunteer tutors to teach students to read, write or speak English. One-on-one instrucon is free and confidenal. If you know someone who could use this service or would like to become a tutor, please contact the Library.
