What is Neurodiversity?

Harvard Health says that “Neurodiversity describes the idea that people experience and interact with the world around them in many different ways; there is no one ‘right’ way of thinking, learning and behaving and differences are not viewed as deficits.”

In recent years, there has been a growing awareness of neurodiversity and a push for greater acceptance and accommodation of people with neurodivergent conditions, such as autism spectrum conditions, ADHD, dyslexia and Tourette’s syndrome. By embracing neurodiversity, we can create more inclusive and supportive environments that allow individuals with diverse cognitive abilities to thrive.

Promoting positive mental health is crucial to overall well-being and it’s important to prioritize activities that support this. The Palm Beach County Library System offers various activities, including book clubs, art classes and meditation sessions, that can help enhance mental health. Engaging in book clubs can boost mental health by promoting social activities that stimulate the mind. Reading has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety while improving cognitive function. Book clubs provide an opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, reducing feelings of loneliness and isolation.

Participating in art classes is another way to improve mental health. Art therapy has proven effective in treating anxiety, depression and posttraumatic stress disorder. Art classes can help reduce stress, improve selfesteem and enhance problem-solving skills. Meditation sessions are also available, providing a way to decrease stress and anxiety. Meditation can improve focus, reduce symptoms of depression and promote overall well-being. The Library offers these sessions as a resource for individuals seeking techniques to manage stress and anxiety.

By prioritizing activities that promote positive mental health, such as book clubs, art classes and meditation sessions, individuals can reduce stress levels, improve cognitive function and enhance overall well-being. The Palm Beach County Library System is an excellent resource for those seeking to prioritize their mental health.

Small Business Month: Celebrating the Backbone of the Economy

Small businesses are the backbone of the economy. They create jobs, drive innovation and provide goods and services to local communities. May is Small Business Month, a time to celebrate their contributions and raise awareness of the challenges they face. Despite obstacles such as limited access to capital and increased competition, small businesses account for over 44% of all U.S. economic activity and employ nearly half of the country’s private workforce. By supporting small businesses, we can create a more vibrant and sustainable economy.
