Vaccinations begin in Worcester County By Lea Leonard Staff Writer (Dec. 18, 2020) Vaccinations against the novel coronavirus will begin this week in Worcester County. “We are one of the first six treatment sites within the state of Maryland to offer this treatment,” said Matthew Morris, vice president of Patient Care Services for Atlantic General Hospital. “We expect our first delivery of doses of the Pfizer covid vaccine Dec. 17. Friday will be our first vaccination clinic for our front

line associates and medical staff.” Information on when this county’s vaccination program will be expanded to other recipients according to the state’s plan was not immediately available. At a press conference Tuesday, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan said he, too, wanted Marylanders to know that help is coming. He said officials are steadfast in their efforts to provide much needed relief. “We’ll launch, what will be the largest and most important vaccina-

tion campaign in the history of our state and our nation,” Hogan said. “We are also ramping up an aggressive public outreach effort. These vaccines really do offer hope that we are approaching the final phase.” Public health officials reported 140 new coronavirus cases in Worcester County from last Thursday to this Thursday. The area has a positivity rate of approximately 9.65 percent as of Thursday, higher than the statewide average of 7.73, according to the Worcester County Health Department. While more than 241,000 cases exist statewide and a death toll of approximately 5,103 since the pandemic began, authorities report a total of 1,787 cases and 42 deaths in Worcester County as of Thursday. Also on Thursday the

Gossip to that effect, however, began circulating throughout the resort months ago, even though Billy and Maddy Carder, his wife and

restaurant co-owner, maintained all along that no sale had taken place. No sale had taken place as of Tuesday night either, when it appeared that one of the resort’s most wellknown — and always open — establishments would be replaced with an extensive restaurant development on the 75th Street bayside parcel by one of more of the partners in the Ropewalk restaurant group.
