Art League of OC seeking SHEro Awards nominations (Oct. 9, 2020) The Art League of Ocean City is seeking nominations for the 2020 SHEro Awards, honoring Delmarva women who have shown courage in facing adversity and turned that around into something positive. The deadline for nominations is Oct. 9. Candidates for the SHEro Awards must be women residing on Delmarva, but they do not have to be related to the arts. Nomination forms are available at ArtLeagueOfOceanCity.org. The SHEro Awards are part of the October-long all-women art exhibition entitled “Vision” at the Ocean City Center for the Arts. Curated by Deborah Rolig of Berlin, the multimedia exhibition seeks to empower women through art, emphasizing women overcoming adversity. The Art League will donate a portion of the proceeds from the Vision show to Women Supporting Women.

This is the third year for the SHEro Awards. “The SHEro Award winners are filled with courage and tenacity, the kind of women who have overcome a major challenge in their lives — be it health, family, job, or something similar — yet have dugin to thrive and persevere,” Rolig said. “These are the women we want to know about and honor as SHEros.” The Art League will present the SHEro Awards on Facebook Live, Friday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. The public is invited to the free event. Admission is always free to the Ocean City Center for the Arts at 502 94th Street, home of the Art League of Ocean City, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing the visual arts to the community through education, exhibits, scholarship, programs and community art projects. Zumbathon charity events set to take place at OP center (Oct. 9, 2020) The inaugural “Move to Give So Others Can Live!” Zumbathon charity event is slated for Oct. 16-17 and Nov. 1, in Ocean Pines. Every year ZUMBA designates October as “Party in Pink” Month to celebrate life by giving hope to breast cancer patients and survivors. This year due to covid-19, ZUMBA for the Cure is including other cancers as well. ZUMBA instructors will host three energy-packed events at the Ocean Pines Community Center. Participants for these “parties” do not have to be ZUMBA students or dancers. All that is necessary is a desire to move and groove to the music. Proceeds from these events will go to Relay for Life of Northern Worcester County and Believe in Tomorrow Children’s House by the Sea in Ocean City. Each day will have two 45-minute sessions, with a half-hour break in between. The Friday, Oct. 16 event will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The Saturday event is from 2-4 p.m. The Sunday, Nov. 1 Zumbathon will run from 10-12 a.m. The cost is $10 per session in advance ($15 at the door), $15 for both sessions on one day, or $40 for all six sessions. Everyone is encouraged to wear pink.
