Vital ecosystems like submarine canyons are poorly understood and under immediate threat from industrial fishing and climate change.
Oceana Canada’s expeditions explore and protect essential habitats, driving policy changes to ensure ocean health for future generations.
“Your partnership will help turn the tide for ocean conservation and secure a healthier planet.”

Help explore and protect 35,000 km² of vital submarine canyons and deep-sea habitats within one of the world’s most iconic fishing grounds.
Our expeditions bring ocean challenges to life and build a stronger case to shape national conservation policy.
Ea ing discoveries into long-lasting protection.
Explored the deep-sea fjord habitats off the Central Coast of British Columbia, discovering diverse ecosystems and providing essential data for future conservation efforts.
This expedition was conducted in partnership with the Heiltsuk and Kitasoo/Xai’Xais First Nations, Central Coast Indigenous Resource Alliance (CCIRA), and Ocean Networks Canada.
Undertook the deepest visual exploration ever in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, revealing critical habitats for endangered species and vital biodiversity.
This achievement was made possible in collaboration with Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
Explored the culturally and ecologically significant coastal habitats of Nunatsiavut in Northern Labrad marine ecosystems that support traditional livelihoods and biodiversity.
This expedition was carried out in partnership with the Nunatsiavut Government.
Expanded our knowledge of underwater mountains in the northeast Pacific by discovering six new seamounts, significantly enhancing our understanding of this biodiverse ecosystem.
This work was made possible through collaborations with Ocean Networks Canada, the Haida Nation, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and Ocean Exploration Trust.
Oceana Canada was established as an independent charity in 2015 and is part of the largest in advocacy group dedicated solely to ocean conservation. We are:
We strategically create campaigns that make measurable progress toward our mission of prot restoring the oceans to former levels of abundance. Our campaigns are specific, targeted, and won in a three to five-year timeframe.
Our advocacy relies on scientific research to help us understand the ocean’s problems and ide effective solutions. We conduct research on a variety of issues that affect marine environmen and destructive fishing to plastic pollution and offshore drilling.
We recognize that getting on the water, alongside scientists, divers, photographers, and camp us bring these important marine areas to life and make a stronger case for their protection. Oc expeditions have powered our campaigns and resulted in victories across the globe.
Oceana’s scientists work closely with our economists, lawyers, advocates, communicators, and organizers to achieve tangible results for the oceans.
Oceana has a base of over 8.2 million supporters. Our Ocean Council comprises a select group business, policy, and philanthropy who represent and support Oceana’s efforts on the global s
