What is inside us reflects externally. Or is it the other way around? In any case, if you are living in chaos, it doesn’t feel good, and it reflects in your life. This course will introduce several techniques to help you clear away external blocks to help you release those internal blocks which prevent you from living your life, your way. Using guided meditations as well as practical lists of sorting, purging, and releasing to guide you to clear unwanted, unneeded energy and stuff from your home to create the life you desire. This class is not your typical “get rid of things you don’t need and then you end up with the same mess all over again” class. This program is designed to help you get to the core of how to have the “things” you want to keep and how to release things that don’t serve you any longer. Join us for a clutter-clearing class unlike you have ever heard of. You’ll do a little energy clearing work, a little (or a lot!) physical homework, and will find a new feeling of space at the end of our time together.

This workshop offers an orientation to joining and becoming an effective member of a nonprofit board of directors. So many local and regional nonprofits have need of diverse board members and recruitment of new members can be a challenge. Potential board members may have little knowledge of what it means to serve on a nonprofit board of directors. The local communities in Lincoln County are home to many persons, including retirees with energy and time to give, who could be useful board directors. The course will explore the legal purpose and standing of nonprofit organizations in state and federal law, types of nonprofits, fiduciary responsibilities of boards, operation of boards including committees, how boards evaluate themselves and, finally, how to find your way to being on a nonprofit board.

Join renowned artist and Newport city councilor Sandy Roumagoux for a unique Open Studio experience designed for experienced painters working in acrylic and oil. This weekly Thursday morning session offers a supportive and inspiring environment for independent work, guided by Roumagoux’s decades of artistic and civic leadership. Known for her bold explorations of paradox, politics, and the natural world, Roumagoux brings a rare depth of insight and critical reflection to her teaching. Students will work on self-directed projects in a shared space, with opportunities for feedback, discussion, and informal critique. This is not a beginner’s class; instead, it is a space for practiced painters to refine techniques, explore their voice, and engage in thoughtful dialogue with a respected Oregon artist whose work has been exhibited statewide and beyond. In this course, participants will kindle their creative spark and cultivate artistic skills through the exploration of mixed media processes and techniques. Through collaborative brainstorming, each will have the chance to pick their own subject (think crabs, flowers, trees, octopuses, birds, cats, plants...) right from the first class. To ensure a well-rounded grasp of media and techniques, we’ll delve into three key ones: texture, mark making and collage. As we progress, each class will feature demonstrations centered on a subject chosen by the instructor. She will showcase some completed pieces and dive into the creative journey behind them. Meanwhile, participants will be crafting their own artwork, drawing inspiration from individually tailored themes developed in the first three sessions. In the final class, participants will bring their chosen object to life with a fresh design, applying the techniques honed throughout the course. This final piece will stand as a testa ment to your artistic growth and mastery across a range of styles.

Ready to take your mixed media art to the next level? In this class, we’ll build on the foundations from Process & Technique: Level I, diving deeper into layering, texture, and composition while exploring new materials and approaches. This class is all about creative play, personal expression, and developing your own visual voice. In the first two classes, we’ll paint together step-bystep as I demonstrate my own process—layering paint, collage, texture, and line work to create a cohesive, finished piece. You’ll experiment alongside the instructor, trying new ways to add depth and personality to your work. In the third class, you’ll select your own subject and begin preparing the compo nents for your own mixed media painting. The class will explore strategies for planning composition, balancing color and texture, and pushing your ideas further. The final session is where it all comes together. You’ll create your final piece, using the skills and techniques developed throughout the course. Your instructor will be there to guide, encourage, and help you bring your ideas to life. This course is designed for students who have completed Mixed Media Level I or have some experience working with mixed media techniques. All materials will be provided, and curiosity, creativity, and a sense of play are highly encouraged.

This class offers a deeper dive into the traditional solo steps that came before the modern competitive Irish dance style made famous by Riverdance. While not physically demanding in the way competitive dance can be, these steps are intricate and call for focus, coordination, and a bit of stamina. You’ll learn both sean-nós steps—improvised and responsive to the music—and old-style set dances, which are choreographed. The class includes low-impact hopping and rhythmic footwork, so a good sense of balance and steady footing are important. This class is more challenging than the social ceili course (below), particularly for the brain-to-feet connection it requires. A sense of rhythm and some previous experience in dance or similar movement-based activities will be helpful. Flat, well-fitting shoes like Oxfords are recommended.

If you love music and movement but aren’t exactly a teenager anymore, this class is for you. In Ireland, dancing is a lifelong tradition—from cradle to cane—and there’s a style for everyone. This class introduces the rich world of Irish dance beyond the high-kicking performances of Riverdance. You’ll explore ceili dancing (think social, square-dance-adjacent group dances), with some gentle exposure to set, sean-nós, and oldstyle step dancing. Designed for adults who enjoy music and dance but may prefer a gentler pace, this course requires no partner and no prior experience. A sense of rhythm and any background in activities like dance, gymnastics, or skating can be helpful, but not required. You should be steady on your feet and have enough energy to skip around a bit. Comfortable, flat-soled shoes—like Oxfords—are ideal.
