Matchday Programme No. 4 Season 22/23

KEENO'SCORNER..

Welcome to today’s Anagram Trophy match and a warm welcome to the Players, Management and Supporters of Clapton Community FC who have made the journey up from London Both teams come into game in good form with Clapton having won 3 on the bounce and ourselves 4 These matches are always a bit of an unknown for both clubs but the expectation will always be of a tough game.

As mentioned our form has been good of late and really all season minus the blip against Clinton. We are hoping to be somewhere near to full strength this week having had availability issues for the last few weeks. We have had to chop and change personnel and positions a little in the last few weeks which is all part of the game at this level

We have utilised our Development squad a lot this season and will continue to do so as when they have been called upon they have been excellent

Our game last week at Eynesbury was a tough match and whilst we ran out comfortable winners in the end we had to work hard for the points, all the more satisfying when you are under strength. We do still have some long term absentee’s in Shaun, Smudge, Cos, Bhas and Coco but hopefully we can get some of them back in the lead up to or just after Christmas

Obviously I never set out to go for 10 years back then but its one of those roles which sucks you in and whilst it takes up a lot of your time you struggle to imagine Saturdays without it.

What’s pleasing is that there are 4 or 5 players from that win 10 years ago still involved with the squad now. Id like to think that overall the club are in a better position now than when I took over and recent successes has certainly made it worthwhile More so for the players who have given me and the club so much One final note is that Scott Valentine’s opening goal last week was the 800th goal scored since I took over which comes in 339 games a very decent and surprising return when I found out.

Enjoy the game

Cheers

Next week (1st December) will be my 10 year anniversary of when I took over as manager with a 3-2 win away at Wolverton Town.

History of the competition...

The increase in ground and facilities standards for the Football Association Challenge Vase over recent years has resulted in a number of senior clubs no longer being able to enter the competition Lack of finance, planning obstructions or restrictions on ground development by landlords have meant that many clubs have found it impossible to meet the improvements

One League with member clubs having had applications for entry rejected over the years is the Chiltonian Football League and, in 1996, the then Secretary of the League, Tony Ford, put together a case on behalf of the League for the introduction of an additional national competition below the Challenge Vase. The proposal was submitted to The Football Association and considered by the Challenge Vase Sub Committee Unfortunately, the proposal was turned down In 1998, the Isthmian Joint Liaison Committee, comprising the Isthmian, Combined Counties, Essex Senior, Spartan South Midlands, Chiltonian, Essex Intermediate, Hertfordshire Senior County, Middlesex County and Surrey County Premier Leagues was reconstituted with the exclusion of the five Lower Feeder Leagues These five Leagues, together with the three Feeder Leagues, founded a new Isthmian Lower Joint Liaison Committee under the chairmanship of Pat Burns, the chairman of the Spartan South Midlands League

At the inaugural meeting in July 1998, the Hertfordshire Senior County League representatives raised the possibility of staging a competition for those senior clubs excluded from the Football Association Challenge Vase. Several of their member clubs had found themselves no longer eligible, due to the increased ground requirements and missed the inter League rivalry the competition provided The original proposals from 1996 were unearthed and circulated to the member Leagues and, with a few updates and amendments, were found to be acceptable being approved at the following meeting in April 1999 It was agreed that the competition would start in the coming season, be restricted to those leagues within the Isthmian Pyramid and, following suggestions put forward by the various league representatives the title of the competition was resolved; the Capital Counties Feeder Leagues Trophy

Entry forms were submitted to the clubs within the Chiltonian and Hertfordshire Senior County Leagues and, once the list of entrants to the Challenge Vase had been published by The Football Association, to all those clubs within the Combined Counties, Essex Senior, and Spartan South Midlands Leagues who had not been accepted or who had not entered the Challenge Vase Entry forms were also sent to any club that had been relegated from a qualifying League or division at the end of the previous season to widen the scope slightly and ensure a reasonable inaugural competition

Eventually, it was estimated that some fifty eight clubs were eligible to enter the competition. Forty clubs finally made application, and all were accepted Sanction from The Football Association was duly received, and the competition was underway Most rewarding was a proposal for sponsorship received from Iain McNay, the Managing Director of Cherry Red Records Limited, who wished to add the competition to his stable of football sponsorships The proposal, accepted by the Committee and approved by The Football Association, retitled competition as the Cherry Red Books Trophy with the winners receiving a financial award of £200 and the runners up £100. In addition, a sponsor's advertisement was required to be published in the match day programme issued by each club for the competition matches

Afternoon all. Our favourite day of the week is back again

A quick shout out to everyone behind the scenes pushing the club in the right direction consistently This is evident with the new goals, Veo, social media work, pitch improvements etc You’re giving the players a perfect platform to start from… but can we please get some better lager on draft?

My thoughts on the season so far; I feel we started the season well, but never reached our full playing potential early on I think the lads know we could have performed better, yet we still dug out some good results, playing some good football along the way We all know it’s all about the three points come Saturday and picking up maxiumum points bar a minor blip at Clinton is top draw. So fair play to the boys!

Recent weeks we have been getting back to our best and playing some enjoyable football, as the results themselves have shown. I think we all agree, when we ’ re at it, there’s no better place to be than our changing room when we are winning. So let’s stay focused and take each week as it comes

H E S K I P P E R

With some key players to come back in, we will no doubt keep on improving The depth we have in the first and development squads has served us well in recent weeks and the lads who have deserved their shot are getting them and no doubt will continue too.

Looking forward to today’s game, we welcome Clapton Community, who have a strong social media presence, and it’s always nice to see a fan run club, rather than these greedy owners like Clive! Today makes for an interesting game with both teams at the same step on the football pyramid and equally doing well in their respective leagues plus we all love knock out football We are looking forward to this one

Id like to finish on a quick thank you to all of you who come out to support us week in week out, home and away. Your support is very much appreciated and felt by the players, and that shows on the pitch Hopefully we can keep performing and getting the results we all turn up for on a Saturday

“This is football heritage”

Thank you SO’N 6,7,8

FIXTURES/RESULTS

THEDEVS

Our development side have made a strong start to the season, currently sitting in 3rd place in the Hellenic Division Two North. They remain 7 points off of top spot with two games in hand on leaders Winslow United Dev with all to play for heading into the second part of the season

Having dropped just 2 points through the first 6 games of the season the Devs headed to Headington sat 2nd in the league, and came away on the wrong end of a deserved 2 0 scoreline This was followed up by a heavy 0 5 defeat in the Bluefin Challenge trophy at home against Division 1 high flyers Milton United albeit the game was arguably closer than the scoreline suggests, a number of key absentees and missed chances made the afternoon all the more difficult

They bounced back last weekend at home to Aston Clinton Sports with a comfortable 4 0 win with the goals coming from Lewis Dazley, Wellsy, his 4th of the season, Ben Green and a penalty cooly despatched from Sam Cox

looking ahead, this weekend they head to Aston Clinton for the reverse fixture hoping for a similar outcome to last weekend. Further down the line in the second half of the season are two fixtures against leaders Winslow, with chances to make up the current point gap

Y O U T H U18s

4 wins from 4 to start the season see's our u18 side sitting top of the MK and District Development league Division 1. A resounding 5-0 win last time out against bottom of the league Stony with goals from Matthew Haworth, Prosper Sube, Enaan Hussain and 2 from Kian Walshe.
