Matchday Programme No. 6

Season 22/23

KEENO'SCORNER..

Good afternoon and welcome to this afternoons game against Berkhamsted Raiders I would like to welcome the players, management, supporters and committee members from todays opponents for the first meeting of the season between the 2 clubs.

As we have all had to deal with the recent bad weather which has meant games have been cancelled and then re-arranged cup games means this is our first league game since the win against Buckingham United.

We have played well for large parts of this run and creating plenty of chances Its inevitable that a lot of teams will be playing 3 or 4 times every 7 days through April as fixtures pile up. We have a minimum of 24 games left this season and hopefully more if we can progress in the cups

We have started to benefit from more regular availability of players in recent weeks which has helped, although this does leave others frustrated at not getting a look in. This has been exacerbated by our development team not having a game for almost 60 days. Its been pleasing to see club captain Shaun Ennis back in action and we are grateful to Hanslope for allowing him to play for them whilst our Development team have been without a game.

Our opponents have had some good recent results and performances and whilst their squad are young they are well organised and well coached and I have stressed to the players they need to be on their game today.

Away from the pitch club legend Aaron Murray has had a bit of a setback in his recovery from his cancer diagnosis last year. The lads are all aware of the issues Muzza is having and they know that what they do on the pitch helps him hugely as he remains a significant part of this football club We are hopeful we can see him back here soon.

Enjoy the game

Our form continues to be good with 10 straight wins in all competitions, scoring 74 goals and conceding just 6 in that time.
Keeno
Cheers

AAfternoon everyone, another week has flown by. Saturday soon comes round again…not that any of us are complaining.

Reflecting on the last few weeks games, obviously we had a top performance against New Bradwell winning 6-1 which we all thoroughly enjoyed playing in and we ’ ve followed that up with a big win away at Buckingham United and then progressing through two rounds of the County Cup beating Marsh Gibbon and Stony Stratford. From New Bradwell onwards we ’ ve scored 38 goals and conceded just 3, testament to the lads, they are good numbers. However, I keep emphasising the fact that as a team we are always looking to improve our performances. We all know we still haven’t reached our peak this season and with a few players coming back into the fold I have no doubt we have another gear or two to go.

Although it’s now February, given the recent weather and subsequent postponements the season from a games played perspective is still relatively young.

Looking at the newly released fixtures there is a lot of congestion, and we have a tough run of games in March and April but it’s a challenge the boys will be relishing That said, we are fully focused on winning the next game in-front of us We do have our goals for the season, but I won’t be sharing that information.

Onto today’s game and the visit of Berkhamsted. They are a fairly young side, but they improve season after season, and they have had some good results this season already. They are clearly a well-run club from the vast number of youth teams they have right through to senior football, women and even Futsal. Huge credit to the management there. We are expecting a tough game today, the boys are fully aware of this and will be bang up for it

Quick shout out to the Sheriff Bhas on his first goal in 4 years against Marsh Gibbon, and also King Daz who scored his 100th goal for Bradwell in the same game, well done boys x

Thank you Sammy

OUR VISITOR'S...

BERKHAMSTED RAIDERS

Year Founded: 1996

Nickname: Raiders Home: GlenCar Stadium Honours:

Berkhamsted Raiders was established in 1996 from a collection of individual teams run by enthusiastic dads who wanted their kids to enjoy football They played their football on the outfield at Berkhamsted Cricket Club on a Sunday morning

Under the Chairmanship of Paul Beard, the Club progressed rapidly, achieving Charter Standard and then Charity status. Tragically, Paul died suddenly at work on January 15th, 2008 at the early age of 43. His drive, enthusiasm and effort was the stimulus for the future success of the Club.

By 2008, the Club had grown to 30 teams. In 2015, the Club had doubled to 60 teams. And from 2020/21, they are running 94 youth teams from U7 to U18 plus sections for Seniors, Veterans, Ladies, Futsal, Walking and Inclusive Football

The Club has become a true community sports club, providing sport for around 1,200 children in Berkhamsted and the surrounding villages.

Old Bradwell progress in the County Cup after first half display puts Stony to the sword.

6 first half goals done the damage as we saw off another lower league opponent in the Charles Twelftrees County Cup. Keeno welcomed Ben Green back into the fold in an otherwise unchanged squad from our previous outing in the competition

It took just two minutes for us to take the lead, the Stony goalkeeper could only parry a cross into the path of Darryl who slotted home for his 21st goal of the season. It should of been two just three minutes later, Darryl was brought down in the box but O'Neill struck the post with his penalty It was 2-0 after 15 minutes, Ben Green marking his return to the squad with a goal. Cooke made it 3 five minutes later. Stony started to come into the game more and forced a couple of corners but Jahn's goal was never really threatened.

Two quick fire goals from Green and Cooke around the half hour mark made it 5 nil.

Substitutes

Ryan Don, Josh Bird, Lewis Dazley, Aaron Bhasin, Chris King

Green completed his hat trick on the stroke of half time to round off a dominate first half display.

Credit to Stony, they came out in the second half and improved on their first half display making our midfield and defence uncomfortable but none of their build up play could produce a goal.

Josh Bird replaced Green in the 53rd minute and didn't take long to get himself in the referee's book. A further four changes would be made before the 70th minute, Don replacing Cox on the hour mark, King replacing Cooke on 65, Dazley and Bhasin came on for Maxey and Valentine in the 68th minute to complete the substitutions.

It was to be 7 nil in the 70th minute, Darryl receiving the ball in midfield, turning and trying an audacious lob from 35 yards which crashed off the bar. Wade was well placed to follow up and scuff the rebound past the keeper.

There was time for Darryl to attempt an overhead kick, the connection was not quite there and the keeper got down well to make the save much to the relief of everyone in the dugout.

Full time: 7-0

Man of the Match as chosen by the fans: Sammy O'Neill. Dubious given his penalty miss.

Special mention to our linesman, excellent all game.
