Over the past 25 years, no expense has been spared in transforming these stations into world-class sheep and beef enterprises. With a strong focus on production, land and water management, infrastructure, sustainability, and human resource compatibility, the foundation has been laid to capitalise on decades of development and secure the collection as a whole.
Operating at scale, the stations work synergistically, leveraging efficiencies and distribution channels to create a dynamic and resilient operation, from breeding through to finishing stock of the highest calibre.
With the combination of scale, advanced systems, and meticulous reporting, the future is secured with a solid track record and significant planned investments.
The opportunity exists to purchase all three stations together, offering a rare chance to acquire a fully integrated, high-performing agricultural enterprise.

The amalgamation of 16 farms was a two-decade exercise to form the three-farm entity known as the Southern Collection. The Southern Collection includes all the farming properties of Lone Star Farms outside of the Golden Bay region. Today, the three farms function individually but operate as one business.
• Each farm has different attributes which provide a mixture of breeding and finishing land for sheep & beef operations.
• Continual improvements in infrastructure, staffing and farming systems make this a standout agricultural proposition
• All farms have reliable stock water systems, very good sheep yard systems with dual weighing and auto drafting races and new or upgraded cattle yards.
• Apart from hill blocks the farms are largely cultivated and have undergone extensive pasture renovation over the period they have been owned by Lone Star Farms.
• Production on all farms has benefited from better genetics, pasture species and management as well as focusing on keeping ewes at a condition score of 3+ at all times.

The Southern Collection is one of the largest sheep & beef farming operations in New Zealand. With over 12,000 hectares of effective farmland and wintering approximately 48,808 sheep and 3,750 cattle, the Southern Collection is a rare find in top-tier large scale farming.
After years of continual capital expenditure and development, the infrastructure on the three farms is of the highest calibre. All aspects of the farms have been improved including new irrigation, laneways, yards and handling facilities. With a focus on productivity, labour efficiency and reducing animal stress, the three farms have benefited from years of financial input.
A legacy of excellent farm management has ensured the ongoing improvement of all farms and ensuring stock quality. Various farming systems are utilised to maximise the on-farm opportunities managing stock movements, growth and stock weights.
All three stations have farm environment plans that are reviewed and updated in conjunction with management policies and plans. This ensures that “Farming Better Every Day” occurs and the land can be sustained and enhanced for future generations. The Southern Collection are accredited FAP+ Gold.
Staff development and training are a key component of the Lone Star Farms model. All staff have personal development plans with ongoing learning. Advancement to leadership is supported as is involvement in industry groups and competitions. Emphasis has also been placed into developing good staff housing for wellbeing and comfort.
Caberfeidh Station and The Wandle collectively have 1,200 hectares of land under irrigation. After extensive development over the past twenty years, securing access to water for irrigation has been a key focus. With nine irrigation dams holding 315,000 m³ already built and another dam holding 148,000 m³ currently under construction for 2025, the future of farming is in a much stronger position. This irrigation and associated water storage provides for considerable options for other high value land uses in the future also.
The Lone Star Farms Southern Collection of farms has a strong association with the Headwaters sheep breed and is the largest supplier of Lumina Lamb. Meat is sold through Alliance Group and wool through New Zealand Merino.
The Headwaters breed is a cross between Finn, Texel, Romney and Perendale sheep breeds - a genetic line with the ability to accumulate high levels of intramuscular fat and elevated levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids including Omega 3 and Omega 6. Headwaters sheep genetics, farm systems, cutting-edge data and technology combined with a robust connected value chain, results in LUMINA ® – marketed as ‘The finest lamb in the world’
The Lumina Lamb brand was developed to promote 100% natural, free-range and grass-fed lamb from New Zealand’s hill and high country.
The lambs spend a minimum of 35 days on a diet of specially-cultivated chicory and clover forage to produce finely marbled meat enriched with high levels of naturally occurring Omega-3 polyunsaturated fats. This enhances the meat with health attributes, tenderness, texture and taste, and it is sold to exclusive high-end restaurants.
Lumina Lamb is the most exciting, branded lamb opportunity of scale that is happening within the NZ sheep industry with historical growth in market demand globally of 30% p.a.
Lumina Lamb suppliers receive 66% of the net profit from the joint venture between Headwaters and Alliance Group. Premiums from Lumina Lamb have the potential to be a significant contributor to the Southern Farms Collection.
Lone Star Farms breed around 40,000-45,000 lambs which are finished across The Wandle, Caberfeidh Station and the lease block and sold as Lumina lambs. In total, around 60,000 Lumina lambs are finished, with 31,000-33,000 on the lease block, the balance are bought in from outside.

An Angus cow herd makes up the majority of the cattle on the three stations. In addition 1500-2000 trading cattle are purchased for finishing.
Lone Star Farms runs an Angus beef herd with focus on genetics, meat quality traits and being structurally sound to handle hill country.
All Angus cattle are grass-fed and bred on farm supported with further trading stock for stores or finishing. The Angus cow herd is genomically tested and selected on the $ profit index, with Lone Star Farms own bred cattle entered into the Alliance Hand Picked programme.
The beef cows on the property have been bred with a view to producing progeny that provide customers with a fantastic eating and consistent experience. Lone Star Farms believe over time their beef will be part of a value chain selling direct to discerning consumers who want top quality grass fed beef that is produced with all the environmental and animal welfare credentials.

FARMING SYSTEMS
THE WANDLE
This is a core value of the Lone Star Farms farming system.
This approach emphases collaboration for the overall success of the farming operation. It goes beyond livestock farming—it also shapes how staff work together and support one another as a team.
The Southern Collection, function as independent farming entities. The three farms run their own budgets and P&L, but they are operated as one business. Farming decisions are therefore not limited to each individual farm’s boundaries. Each farming business has its own manager and staffing structure, all reporting to the General Manager of the Southern Collection, ensuring a cohesive and strategic approach across the portfolio.
The farms have different attributes which provide a mixture of breeding and finishing land for our sheep & beef operations.
Stock is moved between farms when necessary to take advantage of the current market or pasture growth and supply conditions.
Understanding each farms specific feed demand and supply opportunities and constraints is very important to enable using the other farms to mitigate or take advantage of situations or opportunities. FARMAX ® and feed budgeting allow timely decisions to be made with the mindset that each farm belongs to something much bigger than the boundaries of their farm.
Lone Star Farms has protocols on the movement of stock between farms including animal presentation, data, quarantine treatments and the movements are treated as arms length transactions at market rates.

An intensive finishing block is leased as part of the Southern Farm Collection.
At approximately 490 hectares, this largely irrigated farm is an integral part of the wider Lumina programme. The primary function of this block is to finish Lumina lambs.
Lone Star Farms has been sheep and beef farming in New Zealand since 1997 commencing with its first farm purchase in the Aorere Valley in Golden Bay. Since then the business has acquired, sold and leased a number of properties and is now made up of 6 farms located in the South Island of New Zealand.
Where we strive to have a farming system that enhances our environment, livestock, people, and financial performance.
We hold ourselves to high standards in terms of animal well-being, water and soil management, and investment in our staff.
We operate with a focus on continual improvement in all aspects of farming, to strive to be better every day.

With the size and scale of all three stations there is also plenty of scope for alternative or complimentary land use and activities to be further developed. Currently, Lone Star Farms have focus on the development of a top tiered farming operation growing of sheep, beef with strategic symbiotic forestry.
Lone Star Farms collection has approximately 208 ha of forestry with an additional 544 ha planted to establish carbon revenue streams in the past three years in partnership with Tamata Hauha.
Future diversification may include a number of options from running a deer herd and or a safari hunting block, utilising water for some form of horticulture, tourism ventures and accommodation and larger scale forestry. The Southern Collection presents many options for other income streams in conjunction with the current operation, with the investment underpinned by large scale freehold land ownership in multiple titles. _
