"The conscientious leadership of the Biden-Harris administration on the issue of gun violence prevention stands in stark contrast to the disgraceful apathy of too many members of Congress," Morial said. "We look forward to working productively and effectively with the new agency to implement President Biden's executive orders on gun violence and the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, and to find new strategies to stem the tide of gun violence."

The Black Restaurant Accelerator Program (BRAP), a joint initiative between PepsiCo Foundation, the National Urban League, and Greater Baltimore Urban League (GBUL), aims to provide support and resources to Black-owned restaurants across the country. Recognizing these businesses' critical role in their communities, the GBUL BRAP program empowers entrepreneurs and builds a stronger future for Black-owned restaurants. The accelerated program runs for 8-10 weeks of intense and informative information to educate, enhance, and

sustain Black-owned restaurants in Maryland. The cohort consists of a series of workshops in addition to oneto-one personal coaching guidance from our expert consultants to support the growth and scaling of their businesses. The event was held on September 12th at 6 pm, at the Baltimore World Trade Center. A city rich in culture and history, Baltimore serves as the perfect backdrop to celebrate the resilience and achievements of Black-owned restaurants as the city is home to many successful grantee stories. The success of this nationwide partnership can be seen in the numbers since the inception of the program in 2021:  More than 1,000 business owners across the country have been served by the Black Restaurant Accelerator Program

"We are inspired by the impact we are making through our collaboration with the National Urban League to address a fundamental gap and create opportunities for Black business owners to build generational wealth and continue to strengthen their communities," C.D. Glin, President of PepsiCo Foundation, said. "By providing Black-owned restaurants with capital, technical assistance, and access to resources, we believe we can make a measurable impact on their trajectory not just today but for generations to come." Program grantees shared their inspiring growth, innovation, and community impact stories. "As a first-generation black woman and entrepreneur, there are many things we are not taught or have access to when building our businesses. The Black Restaurant Accelerator program opened doors that previously seemed impenetrable. The support and feedback from the business coaches have refocused me on the upward trajectory of French Toast Connection. Funding will set the stage for materials and staffing needed to grow as well as expansion," Donvenia "French" Jackson, chef/owner of French Toast Connection, said. "It's no secret that small black businesses don't often reach their full potential due to various systemic barriers. This program is

changing that for participants. I am now more equipped to grow French Toast Connection in a strategic and organic way that will positively benefit my family, community, and other food businesses." The entrepreneurs detailed how the Black Restaurant Accelerator Program has helped them transform their businesses, overcome challenges, and navigate the industry's complexities. "We are truly thrilled about the transformative partnership between the Greater Baltimore Urban League and the PepsiCo Foundation Black Restaurant Accelerator Program. This collaboration represents a remarkable opportunity to empower and uplift Black restaurant owners in our community, providing them with the resources, mentorship, and guidance they need to thrive in the culinary industry," said Tiffany Majors, President & CEO of the Greater Baltimore Urban League. "This group of entrepreneurs has certainly transcended above their peers. They've had the capacity to view the tip of the iceberg in creating generational wealth for their families. This event serves as a testament to the resilience, creativity, and dedication of these entrepreneurs who are shaping the future of our local Baltimore food scene." National Urban League President Marc H. Morial said, "Entrepreneurship is at the heart of the Urban League mission, and Black–owned restaurants, in particular, hold a special place in the history of the civil rights movement. The impact of the Black Restaurant Accelerator program lies in breaking down barriers to business creation and expansion and in infusing strength and resiliency into our communities. We're proud to showcase the success of this incredible partnership."

NEWS B L A C K H IS TO RY M O N T H TO F O C U S BLACK GLOBAL COMMUNITY In celebration of Black History Month in the United States, on Monday, February 19, 2024, Donald Hallback, the visionary founder of AfricanUnited, extends a heartfelt invitation to the global community of people of African descent. This momentous event holds the key to a shared vision, one that harks

back to an advanced enslaved African civilization in the United States. It offers a message of immense importance, a blueprint for harnessing our combined natural and human resources, valued at over 100 trillion dollars, to reshape an outdated world financial system, a relic of the past marred by slavery and colonialism. Together, with global support, we aim to break free and usher in an era of self-sufficiency.

Hallback emphasizes the need for this vision. Despite recent landmark events, including the African Climate Summit, Invest Fest, the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop, the 60th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s March on Washington, and more, the world remains divided, and inequality persists. Our upcoming

events and summits, though impressive, lack a unified purpose. The Descendants of Africa Family Reunion on african-united.com will be the conduit to unite our collective wealth, naturally addressing the flaws of a bygone financial system. We will no longer rely on external assistance. Our goal is to raise the necessary trillions to develop our own resources and advance the entire world, combating poverty, war, corruption,

and environmental decline. Hallback underlines that trillions are being extracted from our communities and nations with minimal reinvestment. We remain among the world's poorest, largely because we have not embraced the vision our ancestors left behind - the power to restructure the world financial

systems, leveraging our abundant resources. While others may offer pledges and promises, our action speaks louder. The online Descendants of Africa Family Reunion is a call for us to unite on the world stage. It is a declaration that we are prepared to restructure the financial system and raise trillions to develop our own natural and human resources, signaling a true turning point in history. Our combined

ON THE

influence in the G-20 Nations, United Nations, IMF, and other international institutions will demand respect. It is our chance to create a sustainable world where all nations, regardless of history, trade fairly and Hallback reflects on his roots in Beallsville, Florida, founded by freed slaves. His ancestors restructured the local financial system without external assistance, fostering cooperation and Lastly, Hallback urges leaders of African descent to recognize our potential. Our events and summits worldwide have already harnessed our resources, global influence, institutions, and expertise without dependency on others or violence. The time has come to connect these endeavors, reshaping the world financial system and making history. Announce to the world that you will be part of the online Descendants of Africa Family Reunion on africanunited.com, on Monday, February 19, 2024. Together, we will unite our events and summits, representing over 100 trillion dollars in value, into a single mission to reshape the world's financial landscape. Let the vision of the enslaved African civilization in the United States inspire us all to live together as global brothers and sisters, ensuring no one perishes.

The word “fashion” is often misunderstood as what we display aesthetically, however authentically it is the armor that sustains us in the battle to move mindsets and moments forward. This underrated truth makes ‘The Garment’ the most accurate and potent weapon in the toolkit of the gladiators who proactively proclaim victory in perpetuity through the pursuit of their purpose, and we are proud to illuminate the gladiators that curate the garments that accelerate our quest to conquer each day,” says Caroline Wanga, President & CEO of Essence Ventures. ESSENCE Fashion House™ is dedicated to celebrating the influence that Black has on culture, while also igniting the Black fashion community, as well as the fashion experience for Black consumers. Countess Vaughn has shown her support by sharing Mo’Nique’s video on her Instagram Story.

In a recent Instagram video with her husband Sidney Hicks, Mo’Nique expressed solidarity with striking unions, particularly mentioning the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the SAGAFTRA strikes, which affect writers and actors, respectively, according to The Shade Room. Mo’Nique shared her concern about the alleged lack of compensation for their work on ‘The Parkers,’ a show that has been on the air for 24 years. She and Vaughn starred in the sitcom from 1999 to 2004 which ran for five seasons with over 110 episodes. H B C U A L U M N A C R E A T E S L E G AC Y FA S H I O N B R A N D North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University alumna Cheylaina Fultz ’08 has sewn her legacy in the HBCU fashion industry with her brand, HBCU Legacy Fashion. HBCU Legacy Fashion specializes in trendsetting clothing for children of proud historically Black college and university graduates. This brand aims to build awareness and pride, as well as spark interest in obtaining higher education from an HBCU. Fultz, a mother of three, created this brand because of her love for children, fashion, HBCUs and giving back. The idea for HBCU Legacy Fashion originated in 2019 as a fashionable clothing line for kids – and after Fultz misplaced the licensing application for the business. “I went looking for the application and could not find it,” Fultz said. “At the time I had a 3-year-old and a 1-and-ahalf-year-old and they had been playing in my office. When I ran into my office all my papers were on the floor, but on top of the stack they made was the licensing application I needed for this business.” Fast forward to today, and Fultz has created a brand where she can stylishly bring awareness to HBCUs and help fund the education of future HBCU graduates. “One thing we really want to stand for is being able to connect the youth to their parents’ HBCU,” Fultz said. “We held our first virtual vending for (A&T’s) homecoming in 2021 and in 2022 we held one in person. This year, we plan to do the same and expand out to a few other homecomings like Howard and Spell-House (Spelman-Morehouse).” HBCU Legacy Fashion creates

apparel inspired by A&T, as well as Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, Fayetteville State University, Hampton University, Howard University, Morehouse College, North Carolina Central University, Norfolk State University, Spelman College and Tuskegee University. The brand’s apparel includes jackets, crop top hoodies, sweatshirts, t-shirts and other unique items for adults and children. “I wanted to bring something fresh to this market,” Fultz said. “Usually you see heat-press t-shirts and stuff that’s going to fade. I wanted classic clothing that was going to last for a while.”

internship opportunities to HBCU students who are looking for media and fashion experience. Fultz received her B.S. in journalism and mass communication from A&T. She credits the confidence instilled in her as a student for her success. Former journalism and mass communications professor Gail Wiggins consistently told her to be proud of her name and to never let anyone shorten or mispronounce it. “That’s one that N.C. A&T will instill into you is confidence in your culture, your name, your background, and where

you’re from,” said Fultz. “That’s one of the biggest things that you do have to have as a business owner. You’re going to have to be confident when you walk into a room with people who may have been doing this longer than you have or if you have to pitch your business or if you’re trying to get funding for your business. A&T definitely gave me the confidence that I needed.” HBCU Legacy Fashion has grown since its creation in May 2020, with brand apparel available for purchase in 36 Belk stores across the United States and online through Amazon Prime.

HBCU Legacy Fashion clothing is designed with longevity in mind so that each piece can become an heirloom for future generations to honor their family’s HBCU legacy. “You can even keep it in your family and pass it down, like with our denim jacket,” said Fultz. “A denim jacket is always a classic.” Fultz travels to grade schools and career fairs to promote her brand and educate children about HBCUs. She continues this work through the HBCU Legacy Fashion newsletter, which is designed to help parents educate their children on what a HBCU is. “Everyone on our mailing list gets fun facts to chat with their kids about,” she said. “So, we’re not just selling in our newsletter, we’re also providing valuable information. We also have downloadable word search puzzles with different HBCUs on them so that kids can complete them.” As part of her commitment to supporting HBCUs, Fultz offers
