NYSEF’s mission is to provide opportunities for athletes of all ages to reach their potential in snow sports - alpine, biathlon, cross country, freestyle skiing, nordic combined, ski jumping, and snowboardingthrough professional guidance and financial support.

NYSEF offers transformative experiences for athletes and families across all snowsport disciplines at superior venues offering programs delivered by outstanding coaches and staff to prepare participants for their chosen level of competition while instilling a lifelong enthusiasm for winter sports.

1973: 24 athletes sign up for NYSEF alpine programs at Whiteface.

NYSEF is a community that empowers its members, respects and includes all, holds itself accountable, celebrates integrity and hard work, and honors each athlete’s journey.

HISTORY

1980: The 13th Winter Games are held in Lake Placid

2014: Winter Term’s inaugural season begins. NYSEF sends 9 Olympians to the Winter Olympics Andrew Weibrecht wins the Silver Medal in the Super G

1994: Freestyle skiing is added

1984: Gore, Cross-country and ski jumping are added

2018: NYSEF sends 7 athletes to the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. NYSEF adds programming at Belleayre

2010: NYSEF has 7 athletes compete in the Winter Games in Vancouver 1999: Snowboarding is added

2021: A year after the COVID19 pandemic began, NYSEF sees its biggest enrolling class to date 601 athletes

2023: NYSEF Celebrates its 50th Anniversary

*The NYSEF Winter Term Program allows aspiring student-athletes the opportunity to pursue their athletics at an advanced level while continuing remotely in their home school’s academic curricula, providing an avenue to excel academically and athletically. The program has since grown to 39 (2023-2024 season).

SNYSEF serves athletes of all ages specifically, ages 7-18 (U10-U21) plus adult (master) programs. The majority of our families are from New York State, New England, New Jersey, and the overall North Eastern part of the country into Eastern Canada. Programs also include athletes from Pennsylvania, Illinois, Australia, Parts of Europe, and South America

FUNDING PRIORITIES

Contributions to the NYSEF Fund, an unrestricted fund that allows NYSEF to maintain a balanced budget while keeping enrollment costs down, is our highest priority. The NYSEF Fund focuses on funding the greatest needs of the organization, while events and grant funding support special programs such as scholarships and disciplinespecific initiatives.

Donor support for the NYSEF Fund drives our program excellence and provides access to all participants, allowing the organization to invest in experienced coaches and staff to meet our mission: Supporting athletes to achieve their potential in snowsports

NYSEF is one of the original eight certified Gold Clubs of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association, the national governing body of alpine, freeride and nordic competition in the United States Gold-level certification is awarded to clubs that serve as an organizational and athletic model, and is reserved for clubs deemed the “Best in the World” by U.S. Ski & Snowboard. NYSEF is also a US Biathlon Silver Status Club. Silver-level certification is awarded to well established and highly functioning clubs.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS & STAFF

NYSEF’s Board of Directors is comprised of 17 volunteer members who steer our mission-focused organization. The board oversees strategic initiatives and goal development for the overall health of the organization. Our Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan. NYSEF boasts 13 full-time staff, more than 100 part-time staff during the winter months, as well as a network of more than 200 active volunteers.

NYSEF creates custom sponsorship opportunities for corporate entities, organizations, and businesses that align with its mission and values Sponsorships include bib placement, signage, media mentions, and event acknowledgment, reaching a community of thousands of current and former families and athletes. Sponsorship dollars support programs, staff salaries, administrative costs, and more, and remain a vital part of NYSEF’s marketing and communications plan.

NYSEF’s communications team maintains a monthly newsletter that covers club news and updates, while also compiling an annual report that transparently showcases the organization’s financial fitness. NYSEF is active on social media, maintaining @NYSEFSnowsports on Instagram and Facebook as well as programspecific accounts to celebrate all things newsworthy within NYSEF.

NYSEF Ski Jumpers and Nordic Combined athletes sweep the podium at Junior National Championships in Alaska

Nordic alum Billy Demong was inducted into the U S Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame for being the first U.S. athlete to win gold in a nordic Olympic event.

NYSEF PG Biathlete Lina Farra was named to the United States Biathlon World Championship Team.

NYSEF Ski Jumping alum Tate Frantz soars to the first top 20 finish by an American in 30 years at the Ski Flying World Championships

NYSEF Freeride alum Morgan Chute wins Silver in two events at the Youth Olympic Games in Gangwon, South Korea.

Nordic Combined athlete Kai McKinnon followed her debut at the Youth Olympics in South Korea with a Silver finish at the Junior World Championships in Slovenia.

NYSEF’s Winter Term program is one of the most in-demand programs NYSEF offers with the potential to grow exponentially in the next five years

On average, NYSEF awards over $110,000 in scholarship support each season to help athletes/families with program fees, equipment costs, and travel expenses to competitions.
