Lieutenant Governor's Greeting

Hello Division 8A!

It is finally summer! I am so proud of the work you guys all put in as the school year was coming to an end. Now that school is officially done and June is over, it is time for my third edition of the Bunny Bulletin!

This month was so special because I held my first divisional and got to see so many of you guys together! I hope that the meeting served as a good reminder that you have such a big network of support if you need anything. It was also such a great way to end the school year on a positive note!

This month we have exciting updates from the District, impressive Service Spotlights, event recaps for our division, and so much more! June has been one of the best months yet for Division 8A so I can't wait for you all to read the June Edition of the Bunny Bulletin!

Yours In Service,

Hi NYDKC!

My name is Ava Stamatakis, and I have the honor of serving as your Key Club International Trustee! The other districts I serve are the Alabama District and the Caribbean-Atlantic District. Together, our “sister” districts make up the NewCariBama Sistrict!

My job as International Trustee is to spread awareness of Key Club’s global presence, to connect members to resources, and to support district leadership in whatever ways I can. In this regard, you will see me holding monthly office hours, hosting quarterly sistrict events, sending monthly newsletters, posting on Instagram frequently (follow @newaribama), and much more. The majority of my job, however, is dedicated to committee work at the international level, which I will update you on throughout the year.

Our adventure together starts now. In fact, I have a few resources for you so that we can stay in touch:

Follow @newcaribama on Instagram

Attend my monthly office hours (next one is May 23rd 8pm-9pm EST on Instagram Live)

Access our Linktree (www.linktree.com/newcaribama) for all relevant links!

NYDKC, I am here to support, guide, and serve you. I cannot wait for all the future has in store for you, for us, and for our sistrict. I know this is going to be an incredible year, so let’s continue to serve our homes, schools, and communities.

Please do not hesitate to reach out. I would love to hear from you!

Yours in Friendship and Service, Ava Stamatakis

Governor's Project

Room to Read works to ensure that primary school students can become independent readers and can develop literacy skills in low income areas. Their main goal is to have structured libraries with books in the local language, as well as teachers and librarians who have been trained in the best practices of reading and writing instruction to ensure that children grow up learning how to read and write to make sure they can succeed later in life. Room to Read also supports girls in completing secondary school.

District Project

The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay.

Thirst Project

Thirst Project is a nonprofit organization that works with the support of young people to END the global water crisis by building freshwater wells in developing communities that need safe, clean drinking water. Why Water? Health and Sanitation: Waterborne diseases are responsible for more easily preventable young deaths a year than HIV, Malaria, and all world violence combined. Small children typically do not have strong enough immune systems to fight diseases like cholera, dysentery, or schistosomiasis.

AOFE Key Club members spent their Saturday morning at Astoria Park with @astoriaparkalliance for our final service event of the school year. We picked up tons of litter to help our local community and ended the day with some volleyball and popcorn. About 20 members attended and it was a successful morning full of cleaning up the park!

This was special to me because our first event of the school year was also with Astoria Park Alliances so it was a full circle moment ending off the school year with them. I can’t wait to do more events with them in the future!

Division 25 West Seneca East Senior High School

Throughout the week we collected books from all age groups, and in exchange you got tickets to pick a book on a separate day. So three children’s books = 1 adult book and 1 adult or mature book = 1 adult book or mature book. On the day of the book swap we laid them all out in the library by age group, and everyone got to pick a book they wanted. Most people however caught on to the fact that it was a donation so we had a lot of people donating a lot of books, not expecting so many in return. We did this event to promote summer reading and the idea of getting books used instead of brand new.

With the rest of our books left over after the day of the book swap, we had teachers come collect them for their students or kids, our special Ed teachers collect the early readers that would be useful in their classrooms, and put the rest in little libraries around town and neighboring towns

On June 28th our division met for our first divisional of the service year! I shared some advice for Key Clubbers over the summer, exciting future events, and we played a trivia kahoot all about Key Club International. It was so much fun to see so many of you again!

Coming up soon is the Key Club International Convention in Anaheim, California, July 5-9, 2023. You will benefit from inspiring workshops and speaker sessions, you’ll support your district’s leaders, and you’ll go home with new service projects and ideas that will help you become better leaders.

So far our Division has 490 hours recorded, so start submitting your June MRFs so that we can have an updated count on all your amazing work!
