My name Jocelyn Rafter and I am your Lieutenant Governor for the 2023 - 2024 service year! I am currently a junior at Bard High School Early College Queens, and I served as the president of my school’s Key Club this past year. You have all done amazing work in April and it has been a fantastic way to start off the service year! I am looking forward to our division's continued growth and seeing what we can all accomplish in the months to come. Enjoy the April Newsletter!

Our District Governor Amy Wu has chosen Room To Read as this year's Governor's Project! Room To Read is global non-profit organization that works to improve literacy and gender equality in education!
Room to Read works to ensure that primary school students can become independent readers and can develop literacy skills in low income areas. Their main goal is to have structured libraries with books in the local language, as well as teachers and librarians who have been trained in the best practices of reading and writing instruction to ensure that children grow up learning how to read and write to make sure they can succeed later in life. Room to Read also supports girls in completing secondary school. They are present in 10 countries across Asia and Africa. Room to Read was founded on the belief that "World Change Starts With Educated Children" They have distributed over 26 million books, and have trained 15,000 teachers.
Key Club has partnered with Schoolhouse, an online tutoring platform, to bring free tutoring to thousands of learners across the world. You can all sign up to get tutored, or to be a tutor! I urge you all to sign up to become a learner or tutor with schoolhouse.world, and host or attend as many sessions as you can.
This is an amazing opportunity to boost your own studying and your resume, while also bringing free education to learners around the world!

17 volunteers attended this service event at Forest Park Barking Lot. Members cleaned up the park by picking up trash, filling holes that were creating issues for the park, and even played with dogs after cleaning up. It was a very successful event!
We haven’t seen many clubs do an event like this. It was a unique and fun experience where members got to have fun with animals, while also helping the community. Some members said they were afraid of dogs prior to this, but this event helped them get over that fear which was great!
Yours In Service,
Deanna Cao Forest Hills Hgh School Key Club PresidentOver the third weekend of April OFA Key Club participated in two events. On April 22nd, Earth Day, our club, along with our school’s esteemed Earth Club, hosted a cleanup along the Maple City Trail, which stretches from the edge of the river throughout the city and ends along the Oswegatchie River. Officers from both clubs were present with many members attending. Though multi-club collaborations are usually far and few in between, our board would like to continue these collaborations in the future.
Meanwhile, on April 23rd a second group of Key Club volunteers participated in the St. Lawrence County’s 3rd annual Trash Dash This yearly event was over the span of two days and had cleanups in five towns/cities: Gouvernor, Rensselaer Falls, Potsdam, Massena, and finally, the one we attended, Ogdensburg. Key Club members and other volunteers picked up trash along County Route 28A while wearing fluorescent yellow vests. This is the second year our club has participated and we are planning to continue doing so for as long as possible.
A big thank you to all of our club members who volunteered this Earth Day weekend to help save our planet, one cleanup at a time.
