Lieutenant Governor's Greeting Hello Division 8A! Congratulations on such a great first month of the new year! Seeing all of your hard work in January has been so incredible, and I know 2024 is going to be a great year for Division 8a. I can’t wait for you all to read this newsletter!

Throughout the month I spent most of my time preparing the workshops that I will be leading at our 2024 Leadership Training Conference in Albany. We are getting closer to the event and I can’t wait for you to all see what we have waiting for you!

This month we have exciting new updates from both the Division and the District, along with impressive Service Spotlights. I hope you enjoy reading the January Edition of the Bunny Bulletin!

Message from International Trustee HAPPY NEW YEAR NYDKC! What was the caterpillar’s New Year’s resolution? It wanted to turn over a new leaf! All jokes aside, I hope you are all doing well and enjoying the new year. Here are some International updates!

The Key Club International Council invites all Key Club members to an important town hall discussion about the organization’s budget. This is an opportunity to play an integral role in the decision-making process. Help review the current dues structure and offer your input. The town hall will be at 8 p.m. ET on January 9. Register now.

Interested in tutoring? Get started with Schoolhouse today! On Schoolhouse you can also join the new Key Club subworld to interact with and learn from fellow Key Club members through discussion boards, workshops, and more.

Division Updates On January 17th we all gathered on zoom for a divisional. We discussed LTC, awards, and wrapping up the 2023 - 2024 service year. We also held our election for the next Lieutenant Governor that will be taking over my role next year!

Congratulations to Anwen Paul from Bard High School Early College Queens, the Division 8a 2024 - 2025 Lieutenant Governor Elect! During the upcoming months I will be training Anwen, and I know she will do great things as your LTG.

So far our Division has 922.5 hours recorded, so start submitting your January MRFs so that we can have an updated count on all your amazing work! Also, if you have missed any MRFs go back and complete them!

District Events: LTC The 2024 Leadership Training Conference will be held at the Desmond Hotel in Albany from March 15 - 17.

Registration for our Leadership Training Conference closes on February 29th!

At this event Key Clubbers build character, develop leadership skills, make new friends from all over the state, and serve others for the sole purpose of giving back to the community. You will learn more about Key Club by attending engaging officer workshops and other workshops that seek to provide information about anything from how to dress to colleges. Clubs gain recognition for their efforts, win awards, and partake in activities taking place in Albany!

Internal Service Spotlight D8A Frank Sinatra School of the Arts

This past January, The Frank Sinatra School of The Arts Key Club participated in a book drive to the Ronald McDonald House. All members of the Key Club and the school community donated children’s books in both Spanish and English. The mission of The Ronald McDonald House is to create, find, and support programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children and their families. In collaboration with Frank Sinatra, this initiative was fulfilled and achieved. The Frank Sinatra Key Club donated over 50 books for The Ronald McDonald House, meaning over 50 children get a new opportunity to read, learn, and grow in society. It is important to acknowledge the people overcoming challenges in society, and how easy it is to assist in this process of defeating weakness. It takes ambition and determination to uphold duties like these and we continue to see this through all of our members of Key Club. As we highlight Frank Sinatra, we also hope to inspire other club’s in the district to do the same! External Service Spotlight Division 5 Farmingdale High School

for all the love, Farmingdale Key Clubsupport, has recently completed an extremely successful coat drive! and guidance We collected new and gently used coats for two weeks and we were met with haveover given me overwhelming support! you We collected 100 coats with the help of our students and staff. throughout my life.

The dedication to benefit our community and aid those in need during these cold winter months is shown so clearly through the contributions of our peers. We were able to donate these coats to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island, supporting our local community. We are so grateful to have these opportunities to make a difference, and can’t wait for future projects.

Governor's Project

Room to Read works to ensure that primary school students can become independent readers and can develop literacy skills in low-income areas. Their main goal is to have structured libraries with books in the local language, as well as teachers and librarians who have been trained in the best practices of reading and writing instruction to ensure that children grow up learning how to read and write to make sure they can succeed later in life. They are present in 10 countries across Asia and Africa. They have distributed over 26 million books, and have trained 15,000 teachers.

District Project

St. Jude’s mission is to advance cures and prevent pediatric diseases through extensive research and affordable treatment. They offer medical treatment free of charge at a time when healthcare is often inaccessible. They’ve treated children from 50 states around the world and have been around for 60 years.

They were able to increase cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 60% over this duration, and they earned the platinum badge on GuideStar, indicating the highest level of transparency.

UNICEF works in over 190 countries and territories to save children’s lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfil their potential, from early childhood through adolescence. And we never give up.
