1. GENERAL INFORMATION

VISION: To become a benchmark in the world of education, distinguishing our student body and teaching staff.

MISSION: To provide our students with a well-rounded education, under the heading of "Dignity and Respect".

VALUES: Our values are those chosen by the educational community of the schools in the Sorolla group. These values are worked on over the course of the school year following the slogan "One month, one value".

1ST TERM: COOPERATION, RESPECT, SOLIDARITY, POSITIVE THINKING

2ND TERM: TOLERANCE, EMPATHY AND COMMITMENT

3RD TERM: HONESTY, CREATIVITY AND RESPONSIBILITY

OBJECTIVE: our objective is to obtain excellent academic results by fulfilling the potential of students, in a friendly environment in which they feel safe. Our philosophy is based on four fundamental pillars:

· Bilingualism: at the end of their schooling, our students will master two languages at both written and oral levels: Spanish and English.

· Technologies: understood as working tools. From 4th Primary up to 1st Sixth Form, students will, as part of our Digital Tools Project, work with their own laptop.

· Personalised Learning: a methodology which applies the best practices based on Multiple Intelligences, Grupo Sorolla methodology.

· Healthy school: with three lines of action: eating habits, sport and emotional self-control.

Finishes at 17:00

Students can only enter the school from 08:50.

Please be punctual and we remind you that the school will remain closed until 08:50 and that we are not responsible for events occurring outside of the School.

EXTENDED HOURS:

We offer an additional service between 07:30 in the morning and the 18:00 in the afternoon which will function taking into account the number of applications.

Infant students not collected by 17:05 will switch to the extended hours group.

If you have to pick up students outside the regulated hours, for reasons justified, please inform reception.

1.3. ORGANIZATION

1.3.1. SECRETARY: Monday to Friday 08:30 to 17:00.

1.3.2. ADMINISTRATION: Monday to Friday 09:00 to 18:00.

1.3.3. STUDENTS ARRIVING BY THEIR OWN MEANS OF TRANSPORT.

If a student arrives late to school, they should go to Reception, to inform of their arrival before going to class, in order to maintain an up to date register of the number of students in the school.

1.3.4. COLLECTING STUDENTS FROM THE SCHOOL

When a student has to be collected from the school, the parents/guardians need to notify the School Secretary by letter or telephone, indicating the time and the person who is going to collect the student. We would be grateful if this could be done before 16:00.

To respect the smooth running of the school, students can be collected at the end or start of classes to avoid unnecessary disruptions.

1.3.5. ABSENCES

Parents should notify the absence of a student via Esemtia to the School Secretary. We would be grateful if this could be done before 10:30.

1.3.6. MEDICATION

The school will not give any medication without prior notification from the student’s family.

Should any student require medication to be taken at school, parents/guardians must inform the school nurse by filling out a form which will be available on the school website or via the link provided through Esemtia. On the form, in addition to the family’s permission, the following information must be provided: name, class, dosage and exact time to be taken.

For safety reasons the school will not return medication afterwards. So please only send the necessary amount.

All medical information (allergies, intolerances…) should be informed of by using the relevant school form accompanied by a medical certificate. To keep an updated school register, families should inform the school at the start of the new school year.

If a student is ill (fever, etc.) it is recommendable that they do not come to school as they will find it difficult to participate in class and the school will be unable to attend to them adequately.

An ill child should not attend Preschool. In the event of them falling ill, parents will be informed promptly in order to pick the child up as soon as possible.

Should there be suspicions of a child carrying an infectious or contagious disease, parents/legal tutors should inform the school so that the necessary measures are taken for the good of the child in question as well as the rest of their classmates, since the school, just like any other place where people mix in groups, could be a place where a contagious disease or virus is easily passed on if we do not all collaborate fully.

1.3.8. UNIFORM

The students should wear the correct school uniform.

Sports Uniform

-From Pre-school to Year 4 Secondary School:

• Tracksuit

• T-shirt

• Shorts

1.3.10. USE OF STUDENTS’ DATA

The families authorise the school to use and reproduce students’ information as it sees fit, including photos, videos etc. in different situations (graduations, group photos, posters, Web, Facebook, etc.) whilst always respecting the Data Protection Law (UE) 2016/679 (GDPR) 27th april 2016.

Families that do not wish to authorise the use of such information should complete the relevant form available from the School Secretary.

1.3.11. CLARIFICATION

The school cannot be held responsible for the loss or damage of any item of value. Therefore, we strongly suggest that the students abstain from bringing valuable items to school. The use of mobile phones by students is completely prohibited in school.

1.4 GENERAL RULES

The schedules which are required by the Centre for arriving and leaving must be respected. Other times will be accepted only if justified.

All absences must be justified to the tutor in writing as soon as possible. The Tutor may require, if deemed convenient, supplementary documents, especially in case of repeated absences or failure to attend examinations, tests or other activities of special interest.

The Centre closes Joan Fuster entrance at 17.30 and at the end of the extracurricular activities the Mallorca Street exit will be closed as well.

Students may only be collected by persons appearing on the identification sheet. In the event that another person has to pick up the student, the tutor or reception must be notified in advance and, if possible, by presenting the corresponding authorization in writing.

For students to leave the Centre without adult company, we require authorization in writing to the tutor stating the above.

For reasons of hygiene, health and safety, animals are banned from the school grounds.

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

Parents meetings will be held at the school (for certain events, a childminding service will be offered).

In order to provide better service, parents who visit the Centre for any matter, will be received and attended at Reception.

All modifications with regard to the monthly payment of students: signing up for or declining services, modifying the number of account, etc... must be communicated before the 22nd day of each month in Secretariat.

All the students must attend class uniformed properly and maintain a personal hygiene adequate as a sign of respect to others and to themselves. The uniform skirt must not exceed 5 cm above the knee.

We recommend that all garments are perfectly identified, in order to facilitate their location and subsequent return in case of loss.

Inside the Centre students must walk and not run, and as a sign of respect for others, talk in a low tone of voice.

The center reserves the right to restrict access to any inappropriate use of the Internet by students.

With the aim of creating a safe, learning environment, the use of mobile phones is prohibited for all students throughout the whole school building, unless authorised to do so by a teacher or other member of staff.

At the end of the school day, students have the responsibility of ensuring the classes are left in a tidy fashion for the following day. Between classes, students will remain in their classroom waiting for the next lesson to start.

From 1st to 5th Primary, the school diary is compulsory as a tool for organizing personal work and for a fluid communication between the school and parents, as well as Esemtia and the usual means of communication.

In parents’ meetings, up to three members of school staff (form tutor, psychologist, careers adviser, Head of Primary/Secondary) will be allowed to attend should parents or school staff make this request. The form tutor will collect information from other teachers who teach their group as a means of centralizing all the information relevant to the student.

2. SERVICES

2.1. MEDICAL ASSISTANCE AND SOCIAL SECURITY

The safety of our students is our priority. To achieve this, we place special emphasis on the medical insurance to cover any incident that might occur.

It is recommended that the families notify the school promptly of any type of allergies suffered by the students.

In our school, we have a school nurse for 100% of the school timetable and who carries out the following functions:

- Accidents: The nurse sees to any student with cuts, bruises, grazes, who may be choking, use of defibrillators, and keeps an exhaustive report of all care given and any follow-up treatment, sending a report to the families.

- Health and medication: In charge of dispensing medication, allergy control, special diets and monitoring protocols in the event of possible health risks such as epidemics.

- Medical care: After an initial examination, he/she assesses whether or not medical assistance is necessary. In the event of an emergency, they accompany the student to the nearest hospital. They serve as a connection between the school and health services.

- Technical Advisor: Represents a basic pillar of the interdisciplinary team in charge of health education, promoting healthy lifestyles in our students.

- Trainer: Responsible for school health programmes with the aim of preventing risky behaviour and achieving improvements in the health of our pupils. They also provide training for teachers and pupils (anti-craving, first aid, etc.) and talk to families.

We are a cardio-protected centre and as well as having a school nurse, teachers from all stages and administration and services staff are certified to be able to use anti-trauma devices, defibrillators and perform first aid.

These measures help to ensure the health and integrity of our pupils.

Minor accidents are treated immediately by the nurse. There are several first aid kits located in different areas of the school. The teacher will then notify the families of the details and the treatment given.

Serious accidents which require treatment must be authorized by parents or legal tutors, as our medical cover guarantees assistance in the school from a local Medical Centre. Parents will be notified immediately of incidents at the same time as the health personnel, in order to allow coordination between the school, and the family.

The Medical Centre will treat the student until their treatment has finished.

2.2. EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITES

The extracurricular activities offered at La Devesa School Elche are adapted to the characteristics of our students. The school will aim to organise a variety of activities which cater for all tastes, so that students can participate in several of them. This service is organised into 5 "blocks":

• WATER SPORTS

• SPORTS CLUB

• CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

• LANGUAGE TIME

• LEISURE ACTIVITIES

2.3. TRANSPORT

Given the importance of this service for the smooth running of the school, we consider it necessary to discuss some points about its organization.

Each bus route available has a register to be completed by the bus supervisor during the journey to school. This register is to record delays and absences and to allow the parents to communicate with the school.

This register is handed in to the Secretary each morning, which allows any communication from a parent to be passed on and to record any incidents which might affect our students’ journey home.

The Pre-school students will wear an identity card during the month of September (supplied by the school).

The families should arrive 5 minutes before the indicated arrival time for both the morning and afternoon route.

For organizational reasons, students cannot change from one route to another during the school year.

2.4. DINING ROOM

Lunch time service is optional. It also includes different options, such as school lunches, library time and workshops/Study Club. The school offers a morning snack in the early break. Students can pay daily, or the cost can be included in the monthly fees.

The school dining hall is run by experienced, qualified members of staff.

This service is completely optional and can be arranged to begin at any point or last for any duration during the school year according to each family’s needs.

For those students who require the use of the dining room sporadically, there is the possibility of purchasing vouchers.

Every month, via Esemtia, parents will be informed of the school menu (daily information). The menus are designed according to the age of the student and are both varied and healthy. Should a student, for whatever reason, require a special “diet”, their form tutor must be informed so that they in turn can inform the chef. This also applies in the case of a student having a particular FOOD ALLERGY. Parents must inform the school in September using the “Health Card” that the school will facilitate, as well as a doctor’s note. We work hard to adapt our menu to the students needs and requirements. Students of one, two and three years of age will have a short nap after lunch.

In Pre-school, during the lunch time service, English workshops, such as traditional games, arts and crafts, etc are available. In Primary School, students can attend Study Club where they will receive extra support for those subjects they wish to work on.

In order for our objectives to be achieved, as well as an efficient running of the dining hall, we believe it necessary for a set of rules to be set out for those in charge of this operation. These rules refer to health, hygiene, nutrition, behaviour as well as respect for school facilities and materials.

3. 3. EDUCATIONAL GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT

The psycho-pedagogical office of La Devesa School is authorised by the Conselleria d' Educació. Its plan of activities and programming is aimed at offering service and support to pupils, families and teachers, from Infants to Baccalaureate.

The Psychopedagogical Office/Guidance Department has different objectives in its different areas of action: teaching, tutoring and specialised guidance, in collaboration with the whole educational community.

-To support the planning, development and evaluation of actions that promote tutorial action, promoting habits of well-being and health and actions that favour positive coexistence in the centre.

-Detect and prevent learning difficulties by participating in the socio-psycho-pedagogical evaluation, identifying barriers in the school context.

-Promote the planning, development and evaluation of vocational guidance in the different school stages, helping students in the transition to different itineraries, and the acquisition of information about different studies and the labour market.

4. GRUPO SOROLLA’S INNOVATION DEPARTMENT

The innovation department began its journey in the school year 2005-2006 as a pedagogical guide for Grupo Sorolla schools; it came about as a solution to a development plan (EFQM) of the group, in which two areas were of special interest: communication and innovation. The Department’s objectives are divided into four blocks

• Development of our own Grupo Sorolla Educational Model. In this Model, the Innovation Department also leads the definition and implementation of a GSE Student Profile, based on the skills that students need to acquire for their future and which define us as one of the most recognized education companies.

Another objective in this way is to broaden the investigation and achievement of new methodologies and learning tools that effectively improve our educational model, in terms of face-to-face instruction as well as online or blended learning. Therefore, we also encourage all teachers to take part in pedagogical investigation teams to provide new insights and new projects to be studied, analysed and assessed and, finally, to be developed in case of success.

• Training, expert advice and general support to teachers, providing them with different resources for their teaching-learning process in the classroom, helping them programme sessions for student centred learning and holding specific training sessions for the different stages of education.

• Share our experiences and study cases by participating in forums and congresses; as well as, to contribute to increase the list of courses of our external consultancy firm, Global Learning, with the best practices in our Schools.

• Promote and guide the assessment of the effective implementation of the Pedagogical Model and the teaching-learning methodologies, identifying areas for improvement and personal training requirements through our Teacher Coaching system.

The Innovation Department works closely together with the Psychology Department and the Department of Didactics and Education of each of our educational centres to develop all the methodology strategies agreed and to monitor their effective implementation and results.

The Innovation Department is proud to have taken part in the collective effort which has been awarded with many certifications, prizes and national and international recognitions for our outstanding leadership in teaching practice, working side by side with all of Grupo Sorolla’s professionals, to be in constant evolution, maintaining our priority, which are our students.

5. INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

Our International Relations Department is always working on new language projects, language immersions, exchanges or hosting experiences, aimed to give our students more opportunities to take part and improve their linguistic skills, always keeping in mind their age and ability. This year, we offer Summer courses in different countries of Europe and America to perfect English, French and German. Students will also have the opportunity to spend some months in a different country, living as a native student, which is real language immersion. Besides, the exchanges are also a very important part in this department. This year we hope to renew our new exchange programme in Secondary with Cologne, Germany (previously Konigswinter, Bonn).

However, it is also very interesting to host a foreign student for a period of time, enjoying the experience of learning about and living with another person.
