Brooke was diagnosed with ALS at the age of thirty-three a•er four years of weakness in her foot causing a limp. She has spent the last year sharing her story through outlets like The Today Show and on social media with her 100,000 followers. Her Numo•on ATP Jeff came to fit her for a wheelchair last year. Brook says, “Working with Numo•on has been easy. It was a great experience. Jeff was so fun to work with. I posted a video of the experience and everyone was commen•ng how Jeff was so passionate and perfect for this job. He made it seem fun rather than scary or sad.”

With her wheelchair, Brooke remains independent and lives life to the fullest with her custom wheelchair. “I’m completely reliant on a wheelchair now, so having one that’s comfortable and custom fit for me has been life-changing. My body feels better, my posture is better, and I’m so much more comfortable.” Brooke said with the support of her friends and family, she has been able to laugh in the face of ALS. She documents her experiences on social media and raises awareness for ALS and approximately one million dollars for ALS research.

Pittsburgh, PA

Eight-year-old Noah lives in Pi•sburgh, PA with his parents, li•le sister, and five dogs. Born with Escobar syndrome, a condi•on that poses physical hurdles, Noah lives life with infec•ous enthusiasm. One of Noah’s favorite things to do is make people smile. He loves cracking jokes, making art, and playing drums. Fueled by a passion for the drums, Noah joined the school band. He also shares his ‘taste test’ stories featuring interna•onal foods with his following on Instagram. Noah has been a Numo•on customer since he was three years old, working closely with his Numo•on team, but especially his ATP, Jeff.

“Jeff is a wonderful ally to our son and family by ensuring Noah’s chair is serviced and repaired in a •mely manner. Having an optimally functioning wheelchair empowers Noah to be an active, independent, and included member of his community— all of which is of tremendous importance to us. We appreciated that Numo•on took the •me to walk Noah through all of his chair features— both func•onal and for safety— to ensure he is ge!ng op•mal use out of his wheelchair,” said Noah’s mom, Michaela. When Noah received his power chair, he customized his fenders with Looney Toons, making him feel like the true owner of his equipment. He has added other decora•ons too, like Pi•sburgh Pirates pennants. With his wheelchair, Noah par•cipates in many ac•vi•es. He is known as “the speedster” in his neighborhood zipping around the streets, challenging his mom to races and waving at everyone.

Bryn Mawr, PA

Rachel is from Bryn Mawr, PA and has a rare form of muscular dystrophy. To date, only seven people have been diagnosed with this specific condi•on, including her late brother Dr. Mark Bookman. A former high school science teacher and accomplished disability consultant, thought partner, and advocate involved in the collec•on of interna•onal and intersec•onal disability data, Rachel has collaborated with many organiza•ons suppor•ng people with disabili•es and their care providers through digital storytelling projects, speaking engagements, and fundraising events. Rachel graduated from the University of Miami with a B.S. in Marine and Atmospheric Science and earned her Masters of Educa•on from West Chester University. In 2023, she completed the eCornell Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion cer•ficate program. Rachel now works with her father at GLIDE FUND INC., a non-profit set-up in memory of her brother. Rachel has been a Numo•on customer since 2016. “Numotion has been a pleasure to work with. Numotion’s convenience of home visits is incredibly helpful. Similarly, the myNumotion app is extremely helpful. When I needed repairs with my powerchairs, the app’s video calling diagnostic feature has been a game-changer in expediting part ordering and the repair process.”

With the custom features on her custom wheelchair, Rachel lives as independently as possible. “For all of my wheelchairs, I was fi!ed for my equipment at Bryn Mawr Rehab with a physical therapist and Numo•on specialist. Upon delivery, Numo•on worked with the the team at Bryn Mawr Rehab to customize the chair to my exact measurements - down to the footplate height according to my preference for high heels! With my seat elevator, I can reach items that are high up, sit at high tables and counter heights, and hold conversa•ons in crowded rooms by speaking and hearing at eye level. The light package allows me to go out at night without fear, and the USB port assures my phone always has a charge and prevents it from falling.” Rachel enjoys being outside and going on adventures with her friends and her ADI Cer•fied Mobility Assistance Service Dog, McQueen. “McQueen regularly helps me retrieve items that I drop. He can bring me my phone and meds from anywhere inside the house. He also helps me take off my socks, pants, shirts, jackets and shoes. He turns on and off lights, and opens and closes doors and drawers.”

Albany, GA

Richmond was born and raised in Albany, GA. He is a third-genera•on Army combat soldier, joining the army like his father and uncles before him. Richmond loves the outdoors, going fishing hun•ng, traveling, and spending •me with his grandkids. Numo•on worked with Richmond to provide him with a power wheelchair. “I have had 18 opera•ons, and live with chronic joint pain and severe nerve damage in my spine. Not being able to walk in the mall or the park limited my life with my family. With my wheelchair, I can move around the city with ease now and take walks and be with my family.”

Richmond has had his power wheelchair for almost a year now and said that he and his family are very happy with their experience working with Numo•on. “Numo•on told me the truth and kept me informed. Gave me a role in helping to obtain my powerchair. They answered or returned my calls and emails in a •mely manner - displaying a ‘can-do anything a!tude.’ I have just begun my journey and will keep using Numo•on.”

Boulder, CO

Darwin is three years old and is nonverbal. He and his family have been working with Speech Language Pathologist, Rachel, who said Darwin has acquired 4 verbal words so far, and clearly wants to communicate so much more. According to Rachel, “We hoped that a speech device would give him a way to communicate while he is s•ll working so hard to acquire verbal speech and make it so that he could communicate regardless of how much speech he develops!”

Rachel also shared, “Every week we work on new words and it’s so fun for me to see what he wants to talk about! Mom told me a story last week about how he saw a spider and wanted to communicate but his grandma wasn’t understanding. He le• the room, found his device, brought it to grandma, and said ‘spider’ and pointed to where he’d seen the spider. While mom was telling me this story, Darwin was clearly listening and used the device to say ‘spider’ to me, to illustrate what had happened.”

Skep•cal of the device at first, his mom has seen incredible improvements with his communica•on and speech. “Before the device Darwin was never able to clearly ask for things he wants, he was only able to point, guide you towards something, or cry. Since having the device, he can talk about his favorite things (dinosaurs)!”

Numo•on Speech Solu•ons is the go-to AAC provider for Rachel. She says, “It’s been the simplest AAC evaluation process I’ve had so far as a home health SLP. Colleen, Numo•on Speech Solu•ons Augmenta•ve and Alterna•ve Communica•ons Specialist, was able to come with me to visits to trial the devices, give me training on any of the language so•ware I didn’t know, and then leave the devices with me for a trial period. Numotion Speech has been helpful by coordinating with the doctors, so I don’t have to do that, and the report I needed to write was straightforward.”

A•er a week with a trial device Darwin was verbally imita•ng lots of the words, something he did not do when he simply heard people speak. His mom said, “Darwin pressed the ‘I love you’ phrase bu•on and verbally repeated the words. Rachel and I did not know he could say 3 consecu•ve verbal words. It was also the first •me I heard him say I love you.”

“I have met with the Numo•on folks on two separate occasions regarding an electric wheelchair for my wife. She has been diagnosed with ALS. We could not be more pleased with the professionalism coupled with genuine personal care, especially from Randy. His second visit was in our home where he brought a working unit, allowed my wife hands on •me, which relieved her apprehensions, and took measurements for proper clearances and fit. A•er two hours, my wife was feeling at ease and is now looking forward to the new mo•on and freedom that Randy and Numo•on is bringing into her current new reality of learning to live and cope with ALS. Numotion Foundation Provides Funding to Individual Abilities in Motion As a program of its partnership with United Spinal Associa•on, the Numo•on Founda•on provided program support to Individual Abili•es in Mo•on, United Spinal’s NE Pennsylvania chapter. The event provided those living with mobility-related disabili•es the opportunity to experience equipment designed to provide greater access to nature and the outdoors. Joseph Salva, President of Individual Abili•es in Mo•on provided the following impact story. “We held an event that we called Off-road Adapted. It was an opportunity for individuals to come out and try a variety of different equipment designed to allow people with mobility impairments explore the outdoors. Thanks to the support we receive from sponsors like the Numo•on Founda•on we were able to coordinate having different equipment from companies in Western PA, Rhode Island, and even North Carolina present at the event. We had an equally impressive draw for the event with over 70 people joining us. On behalf of everyone at I AM and those that a•ended the off-road event, I want to extend our hear•elt thanks for making events like these possible. To help illustrate the impact your support had on the lives of others I’d like to share some quotes from individuals who par•cipated in the event:

‘It feels amazing to be able to access the outdoors with the adap•ve equipment. I feel like I have no limits!’ - Emily ‘I didn’t think I could do any off road un•l that day; it opened my eyes to see past the limita•ons I put on myself! Thank you for your role in making them possible and for joining us in our work to help enrich lives!”

Numotion Foundation Grant Provides Increased Accessibility at Annandale Village The Numo•on Founda•on provided support to Annandale Village, a non-profit residen•al community in Georgia specializing in the care of those living with acquired brain injuries and developmental disabili•es. Annandale Village Director of Development, Lindsay Borenstein provided the following mission statement and impact story. “Our mission is to provide progressive life assistance to adults with developmental disabili•es and acquired brain injuries so that they can maximize their abili•es and maintain their independence in the least restric•ve environment. Annandale Village is very grateful to Numotion Foundation for their generous grant of $3,000. Numo•on Founda•on’s support was instrumental in the acquisi•on of a ba!ery-powered, ADA-compliant pool li" for our spa located within the aqua•cs center. The li" serves a vital purpose, offering Villagers with limited mobility easy and safe access to the spa area from the pool deck. While the swimming pool has long been equipped with a li", the spa lacked such accessibility, thereby limi•ng Villager use. Previously, when Villagers with limited lower extremity control wanted to enter the spa, they were dependent on a staff member to get into the water with them. This ADA-compliant li" ensures that all Villagers, regardless of their abili•es, now

enjoy equal access to the spa. Located in Annandale’s Program Center, the aqua•c center is a popular recrea•onal space for our Villagers, and the spa is u•lized in a variety of ways. Villagers o"en enjoy using it to warm up a"er pool ac•vi•es or for therapeu•c relief for muscle spas•city. At Annandale, a significant por•on of our Villagers are sensory-seeking and find comfort in various physical sensa•ons. The spa’s temperature and water agita•on provide a calming and relaxing experience, catering to these specific needs. At the core of Annandale’s mission is the commitment to maximize our Villagers’ abili•es and maintain their independence in the least restric•ve se$ng. Thanks to Numotion Foundation’s support in providing an ADA-compliant pool lift for our spa, our Villagers now have the opportunity to engage fully in every community activity, perfectly aligning with our mission.”

Numotion Foundation Continues Support of Texas Ramp Project The Numo•on Founda•on has con•nued its support of The Texas Ramp Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides free wheelchair ramps to low-income older adults and people with disabili•es iden•fied by local health care providers. Ramps are built exclusively with volunteer labor, keeping costs to a minimum. Ramps are built without regard to race, religion, ethnicity, age or gender. Per the Texas Ramp Project, the organization has built over 25,000 wheelchair ramps as of August 2023. As measured in ramps constructed, this milestone represents over 125 miles of freedom for those living with disabilities. Providing examples of how The Texas Ramp Project serves their communi•es, the following stories and photos were shared with the Numo•on Founda•on: Mr. Noe, 66, of Dallas needed a ramp because of three steps at his front door. Mr. Noe uses a cane, walker or wheelchair, depending on what he is doing or where he is going. Four young men and three moms from Young Men’s Service League, Lone Star and Plano chapters, spent a total of 25 hours to build this 30-foot ramp. In-kind labor value was over $700. The referral was from the Dallas Area Agency on Aging.

Mr. Charles of Garland needed a way to get from his front door to his driveway. Mr. Charles, 70 and a veteran, uses a manual wheelchair and could not exit the house on his own. Four team leaders and four TIAA volunteers worked a total of 16 hours to build a 27-foot ramp. The referral was from Pleasant Valley Healthcare and Rehabilita•on. Ms. Ruby, 91, of Dallas uses a rollator walker or manual wheelchair and could not navigate the four steps from her porch without assistance. This was risky for both Ms. Ruby and her caregiver. Four team leaders and five Santander volunteers worked a total of 23 hours to build this 32-foot ramp from her door to the sidewalk. The labor value was $654. The ramp was referred by Home Care Network.

Numotion Foundation Annual Golf Outing Our 2023 event was an incredible success, raising over $75,000 in support of our mission and the communities we serve! Of course, this would not have been possible without the 17 sponsors and 80 golfers who joined us on a picture-perfect day at Hermitage Golf Course in Old Hickory, TN.

The generosity of our sponsors and par!cipants will help ensure addi!onal life-changing opportuni!es for those living with mobility-related disabili!es across our na!on and beyond. In areas such as adap!ve recrea!on, housing, transporta!on, educa!on, and the arts, your dedica!on to our mission will help fill gaps and meet needs le# otherwise unmet and/or underserved.
