As you are likely aware, we have a significant number of members in our Community at Cultivate who have severe nut allergies. Peanuts, along with many other varieties of nuts can cause severe allergic reactions in a wide range of ways, a few of which are by surface contact and airborne particles. As a school we have a responsibility to keep our students, staff and visitors safe and to reduce risk of harm.
We require all items brought into any of our sites to be free of: Peanuts, Walnuts, Almonds, Pecans, Hazelnuts, Cashews, Pistachios, Brazil Nuts, Pine Nuts, Macadamia Nuts, Peanut Butter or peanut based chocolate snacks (Snickers/ Reese’s pieces etc), items in which peanuts or nuts are listed as main ingredients, nut or peanut based oils or products, nut-based spreads such as Nutella or Almond Butter, etc.

We worked hard with Sam Olsen, OT with Persist Therapy, to get our sensory library ready for use! Cultivate Mankato teachers will also be able to utilize our sensory library, and children will be able to visit and use our quiet space if sensory breaks are needed.

Within our education curriculum, we use studies to guide our lesson planning. Studies are a broad concept that we focus on for 4-6 weeks. Currently our study has been all about art. This month we will begin our Diversity Study. Reach out if you feel your family has something special to share in regards to our upcoming study. We love family participation!
After listening to THE DOT by Peter H. Reynolds, all of the students at Cultivate Mankato and the Infant Development Center designed their own dot. Paint, markers and crayons were used to design the colorful dots hanging from the ceiling in the front gallery of the Carnegie Art Center.
Pop-Up Art sessions at the Coffee Hag and Mom & Pop’s invited community members to design their own dots which hang in the gallery.
Justin Ek spent multiple days at Cultivate Mankato engaging the students in a collaborative art piece inspired by Justin’s Frog Project and the picture book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds.
Each classroom had the opportunity to add color to the frogs you see today. From our youngest babies to our oldest preschoolers, everyone had the opportunity to work with Justin and bring these frogs to life!

My work is about the interest of communication and visual storytelling through the mediums of drawing and painting. This comes from my earliest artistic education through comics. My exposure to comics has informed my decisions on composition and visual language
The reason why I chose to work with this in mind is because I see a general lack of this sort of visual storytelling in contemporary art. The process of telling stories through visual media is something that had been done for millennia. Through my work I wish to take this issue and utilize it to a contemporary viewer.
The process of making my works comes about in small moments with a sketchbook and some form of pencil or crayon. From here I work these thoughts into a multitude of drawings made with colored pencils on toned paper.
PreschoolDayOne- Sam shared his creative process with the students. That process includes carrying a sketchbook for when inspiration strikes. Each of the children got their own sketchbook and got to work on filling their books with the things that inspired them.
PreschoolDayTwo- Sam returned to the preschool classrooms where he talked about taking a sketch from their sketchbook and creating a drawing on paper. The children set out to create the pictures you see today.
Toddlers - Sam spent an afternoon with the toddler classes. With each class, he talked about different colors and created a color wheel right before their eyes! Then the entire class gathered around the paper to explore with different colors.

Through the Scholastic Book Club, you have the choice to place an order each month. Your orders will allow us to earn free books for our Cultivate library and will be used throughout all of our classrooms. Books will be delivered to Cultivate and sent home with your child. Orders are due the 2nd Friday of every month.
