TheoriginsofNugentdatebacktothe 1800’sandthepioneeringworkofFather JamesNugent(1822-1905)inchild welfare,relieffrompovertyandsocial reform.Hisworkhadadramaticimpact onthelivesofthousandsofvulnerable people. Weremaindedicatedtomaking apositivedifferenceforthepeoplewho needus,helpingourcommunitiesto thrive.
Nugentisaregisteredcharityandis thereforeregulatedbytheCharity Commission.TheLocalAuthorities acrosstheLiverpoolCityRegionand beyondaswellasthenational regulatorsincludingCareQuality Commission(CQC),andOfsted, contractandlicenseustoprovide services.
Weofferadiverserangeofsupportfor adultsandchildrenthroughourhomes, education,families,communityand socialworkservices.Asaproviderofa widerangeofessentialsupport,wework attheheartofsomeofthemost vulnerableanddisadvantaged communities.
Nugent’sinitiative‘OurFutureNow’ focusesonhelpingprovidesupportnot coveredbypublicfunding.Werecognise thatshortfallsareleavingour communitieswithoutadequatesupport. Whilewefacechallengesduetolimited resources,webelievethatthrough fundraising,communityengagement, andcollaborationwithlike-minded organisations,wecancreateeffective solutions.
Westrivetoprovidethebestpossible supportforthosewhoneedusandare committedtogeneratingawarenessand agreaterunderstandingoftheissuesour communitiesface.
Thechildrenandadultswesupportoften facemultifacetedchallenges,and,likeall providers,weareworkingtomanagethe risingcostsofmeetingthoseneedsnot alwaysfullycoveredbyavailable funding.
Inresponse,Nugentisdiversifyingits incomestreamsthroughvarious initiatives.Ourapproachisdesignedto sustainourservicesamidashifting fundinglandscapesandthegrowing complexityofcommunityneeds.
NugentAdoption,aVoluntaryAdoptionAgencybasedin theNorthWestofEngland,hassupportedadoptionssince 1943.Ourexperiencedteamprovidestailoredsupportto adopters,welcomingapplicantsfromallbackgrounds.
Ofsted-registered,NugentAdoptionworkswithLocal AuthoritiesandRegionalAdoptionAgenciesacrosstheUK, specialisinginbothdomesticandinternationaladoptions. Theagencyalsooffersongoingsupporttoadopteesand birthfamilies.
AsmembersofCoramBAAFandCVAA,NugentAdoptionis committedtohelpingvulnerablechildrenfindsafe,loving families.

Susie*livedatoneofourchildren’shomeforjustovertwoyears,shehada challengingrelationshipwithhermumbutlovedherlittlesisterHopeand herNan.Susiewantedtostayatthehome.Followingadiscussionwith Ofstedandthelocalauthorityitwasagreedshecouldstayuntilsheturned 18.ThismeantthatshecouldenjoyChristmasinherhomewiththeteam andherfriends,whoshehadbuiltpositiverelationshipswith.
Sadly,Susiewasrequiredtomoveoutofthechildren’shomeintoherown flatonherownin2021aged18
WhenSusievisitedourhome,theteamrecognisedthatshewas lowinmoodandself-harming.TheteamofferedsupporttoSusie.Itwas clearthatSusiewasstrugglingemotionallyandoftenstatedthatshewas lonelyandhatedherflat.Susiewouldvisitthehomeoftentoseeherfriends andhavetea.
In2021,SusiewasfoundlyingonLimeStreettraintrack,shewasquickly admittedintoapsychiatrichospital.Susiewasreleasedfromthehospitalto herindependentlivingapartment.However,shewasadmittedbackinto hospitalmanytimesasaresultofwantingtotakeherownlife.
InMarch2022whilstadmittedtohospital,Susietookherownlife.Ayear afterleavingthehome,aged19.
Susie’sstorydeeplyresonateswitheverythingwedoatNugent.Itreminds usofthevitalimportanceofprovidingcontinuoussupport,notjustupto18, butthroughouteverystageoflife.Herexperiencehighlightstherisksof socialisolationandthecriticalneedforconsistent,compassionatesupport, nomatteraperson’sageorcircumstances.Susie’sjourneyhasshapedour visionofseamless,full-lifecare-ensuringthatnoonefaceslife’s challengesalone.

Our Future Now focuses on providing support across Liverpool City Region and beyond, whenever and wherever it’s most needed. Public funding shortfalls are leaving our communities without adequate support or guidance. We believe that despite the challenges we currently face, the solutionisworkingcollaborativelywiththoselikeNugent,whoarecommitted tofindingsolutions.
The challenges we are focused on include mental health crises, unstable housing, poverty, deprivation, adverse childhood experiences, and other inequities.Withoutappropriateinterventionattheearliestopportunity,these challenges can continue cycles of homelessness, unemployment, poor health,andmarginalisation.
Our Future Now strives to tackle systemic barriers and challenges head-on. Providing individuals and communities with appropriate resources, opportunities, and support networks is vital to achieving stability and personal growth.
