Childs custom homes was created after doing several remodels and taking on the project in 2012 of building are own home. While building our own home, I developed a love for the building process and strong relationships with the contractors to not only get the best prices but to find the quality workmanship for the job. It wasn’t until 2015 when a friend began talking to me about building his home that I knew this was what I was supposed to do. I pride myself in being very customer service oriented and will guide you through the building process. I work hard to keep my clients on budget. NAHB Field Rep. Conducts New Member Orientation and Workshop

NAHB Field Rep. Justin Reyes flew in Thursday, February 27th to join the NTHBA for breakfast with new members and give an orientation. New members Dan Bachman with Ajon Waste Solutions, Ryan Hammett with Budget Blinds of Wichita Falls, Klayton Hoff and Tatum McDaniel with Jacksboro National Bank, Billy Brock and Paige Schlumpf with Lance Friday Homes, Marc Blagg with Brazos Window and Door, LLC along with President Barney Brock, Board Member Jose Garcia, Board Member and Membership Committee Chairman Brandon Litteken and Membership Committee member Chad Hughes were in attendance with NAHB Field Rep. Justin Reyes and Executive Vice President Teri Gibson and husband Jim. NAHB Field Rep. Justin Reyes discussed how important membership is in an HBA and how members have a 3 way membership with the local HBA as well as the state and national. He expressed how NAHB’s advocacy works to not only save money for the builders, this is direct reflection on home buyers. Justin said while NAHB is working on the national level, the state is doing the same on the state level and the local HBA’s help on the local level. New members have a host of team members working for them so they are able to do what they do best and take care of their own businesses. Justin educated members on the events NAHB host annually such as the International Builder Show and other meetings. He told them there are educational opportunities, all types of literature with the latest topics important to the industry as well as benefits they can take advantage of. Justin mentioned, like most organizations, if you’re not getting anything out of it, you may not being engaged enough.

After reviewing all the things NAHB has to offer with the new members, each were given a welcome basket from the NTHBA and were dismissed. President Barney Brock along with Brandon Litteken, Chad Hughes, Teri and Jim Gibson stayed for a Membership Growth and Retention Workshop Justin conducted.

Justin went through several steps giving members ideas on thinking outside the box. One idea was called a most wanted list. Justin said members who happen to see a contractor, supplier or someone who they feel should be a member, at an intersection, parking lot or wherever, they take a picture of the information on their vehicle and post it on a poster board they call the most wanted list. This list can be displayed at a board meeting, a membership committee meeting or even a general membership meeting. The HBA then give some type of incentive to the person who is able to bring in one of the people on the most wanted list. Another thing Justin did was make a list of different types of professions and called it a rolodex. He had everyone look at the list and start putting names they could think of next to that profession. Afterwards, he asked the group how many names they came up with in that few minutes going through that list of professions. One said 8, one said 4, and one even came up with 17. These were really neat ideas that could easily be implemented to try to recruit new members.

During the workshop Justin explained that when it came to members, it isn’t a one size fits all type membership. Each member is unique. There may be some things that are important to one member about their membership that another member could care less about. In order to retain those members, you need to find out each of their needs and try to meet their individual needs in order for them to be Continues on pg 8 satisfied with their membership.

In conclusion, Justin mentioned it is very important to get a member involved. Don’t let them become members then they never hear from anyone in the association. They need guidance. Sometimes it’s good to assign a mentor or have an ambassador that reaches out to the members in order for them to feel that they are a part of the association. Sometime members do not participate because they are not asked.

NTHBA Give Contribution to CEC Construction Department In spite of the date change due to a wintery weather advisory and school closing, we had a great turn out to the General Membership meeting on February 13th. The NTHBA had the privilege, once again, to be catered to by the WFISD Culinary Arts department. As always, the food was delicious and the architecture of the CEC Center is state of the art. It is super easy to beam with pride while standing in the midst of the building. Many different careers are represented and students have the latest technology and equipment to learn with. They definitely have the opportunity to be educated going into today’s job fields.

Mr. Little’s Construction department sold their first onsite build in 2019. The NTHBA had the opportunity to promote and include it in the 2019 Parade of Homes. It was an awesome project. There were many departments that had a hand in the onsite build. The Architecture department, the interior design, plumbing, HVAC, and Electrical just to name a few. With the continued support of the NTHBA, many local businesses and the city’s community development department the students have already begun their second on site build.

Generosity of members purchasing website banner ads on the NTHBA website, made it possible for the NTHBA to present Mr. Little and his construction students with a check for $5760.00.

The NTHBA also had a couple of visitors at the February 13th General Membership Meeting. The National Association of Builders (NAHB) Build PAC trustee and builder from Dallas, C. Kent Conine and the 13th Congressional District Candidate Josh Winegarner were amongst the guest.

After being introduced with an impressive bio that consisted of his serving as both the NAHB and TAB president along with many other organizations and groups and notable accomplishments that include his induction to the Housing Hall of Honor in both the NAHB and TAB, Kent spoke to the group. He mentioned various accomplishments of the NAHB such as the WOTUS rule, the reduction of duties on lumber shipments later this year and other regulations that prohibit builders and developers to do their jobs. Kent said these are membership dues at work but as in any association, there is always a need for more funds to help protect the American Dream. Build PAC is always trying to raise money to help support candidates that favor the home building industry. That in fact is Kent’s purpose for coming to Wichita Falls. He had the honor and privileged to award Mr. Winegarner with a contribution for his campaign. Winegarner is running for Congress for the 13th Congressional District where long time Congressman and friend to many in the Wichita Falls area, Mac Thornberry is vacating.

Born and raised in the Panhandle, Josh learned at an early age the value of hard work, determination, and an entrepreneurial spirit. He knows first-hand the struggles of the farmers, ranchers, and small business owners who drive our economy, and he will fight to protect them from burdensome federal policies that stifle growth and inhibit innovation.

After attending college in Abilene, Josh worked in D.C. for Republican Texas Senators Phil Gramm and John Cornyn, where he developed expertise in agriculture, trade, and small business policy issues. Josh brought this knowledge back home and has been using it to defend and protect ranchers and other agricultural producers from environmental and animal rights activists.

A man of deep Christian faith, Josh will protect the precious gift of life and defend those who cannot defend themselves. We can trust Josh to stand with President Trump to protect our constitutional rights, secure our borders, and defend our country from the threat of the socialist agenda.

In closing, Vice President Steve Lane thanked everyone for their support and involvement with the NTHBA and expressed how the NTHBA could not exist without them.

Young Professionals host Networking Event February 21st The North Texas Home Builders Association Young Professionals hosted their first networking event for 2020 on Friday, February 21st. It was a small group of 13 but the camaraderie was fantastic. Even though it was hosted by the Young Professionals, you only had to be young at heart to attend.

While gathered attendees snacked on pizza, salad, vegetables, meat, cheese, crackers and cookies.

During the evening the group played Texas Hold Em where prizes were awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. Kolter Lukert of Guarantee Title won 1st Place, Brandon Litteken of OK Concrete won 2nd Place and Billy Brock of Lance Friday Homes won 3rd Place.

Whether you won or lost it was all fun. If you haven’t ever had the opportunity to join the Young Professionals at one of their networking event, make plans to participate.
