THE ORANGE STEP

In 2008, Jeliazkov traveled to Washington, DC, to present The Orange Step, his signature project and one of his most cherished works. This large-scale outdoor installation features 128 original paintings, each towering at 20 feet high, displayed in public spaces such as parks and gardens.

“By turning the natural terrain into an open gallery, I sought to break the conventions of traditional indoor exhibitions,” he explains. “There is something magical about taking a simple walk in the park and finding yourself immersed in art. It becomes a seamless fusion of nature and creativity and perfectly captures my vision of making the world my gallery.”

Jeliazkov was immediately drawn to the city’s vibrant blend of history, culture, and artistic collaboration. “What I love most is the collaborative atmosphere—artists, curators, and art enthusiasts come

Painting Life in Bold Strokes

Art has the power to move, inspire, and connect—and few artists embody this philosophy as fully as Kiril Jeliazkov. A world-renowned artist with a passion for storytelling through color and composition, Jeliazkov has spent decades pushing the boundaries of traditional art. His work is bold, expressive, and deeply personal.

“I call it ‘Life.’ My inspiration comes from everything around me— nature, personal experiences, travel, music, literature, current events, emotions, dreams, cultural themes, and everyday objects,” he says. Over the years, his style has evolved through experimentation and immersion in diverse environments, leading to a seamless fusion of abstract expression and vibrant realism.

Jeliazkov’s story begins in Bulgaria, where he was immersed in a rich artistic and academic tradition. “The vibrant colors and rich stories of my homeland sparked my passion for creativity and self-expression from a young age,” he shares. His early talent earned him a full presidential scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design in 1999, where he completed both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Fine Arts. That foundation set the stage for a career that would take him around the world, merging classical training with a modern, boundary-pushing approach to art.

His presence in the region has grown ever since, with studios and galleries in Washington, DC, Fairfax, and Ashburn. These spaces allow him to create and exhibit his work within the very community he now calls home.

SETTLING DOWN…

In 2017, Jeliazkov and his family settled in Tysons Corner, Virginia. “I love the strong sense of connection here—neighbors look out for each other, and there is a genuine feeling of belonging. It’s an ideal place to raise a family and participate in local events,” he says.

His main gallery and art studio, located in Tysons Corner, has been his creative space for the past eight years. Visitors can experience his work firsthand through private tours, available by appointment at: 1604 Spring Hill Rd, Vienna, VA 22182 202-999-5838 www.kirilism.com

Beyond showcasing his art, Jeliazkov is committed to giving back. Each year, he donates artwork to various charities, allowing them to auction his pieces to support meaningful causes. His contributions have benefited organizations such as the Children’s Cancer Foundation, the Make-AWish Foundation, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Camino A Casa Organization, and many more. “It’s fulfilling to see how art can bring people together and make a real di erence,” he says.

Beyond the Canvas… When he isn’t painting, Jeliazkov finds balance in playing billiards and chess, listening to music, and most importantly, spending time with his family. His wife, Caroline, and their two daughters are at the heart of his world, providing unwavering support for his creative journey. He also enjoys traveling, drawing inspiration from cultures across the globe—from Kenya to Brazil, Turkey to Spain, each destination leaving an indelible mark on his artistic vision.

Jeliazkov’s philosophy on art and life is simple yet profound:

"Life is like an empty canvas. You decide what to paint on it. You hold both the palette and the brush, and only you can choose your life’s composition, colors, forms, and dimensions."

Through his art, Jeliazkov invites us all to see the world through a more colorful, expressive lens—one where creativity has no limits and every moment is a masterpiece waiting to be painted.

Building a Beautiful Smile: the Importance of Early Orthodontic Treatment

A healthy, confident smile is a valuable asset. For many children, achieving that smile starts with early orthodontic treatment, also known as Phase I. Parents are often wondering, "Why is orthodontic treatment important at an early age when my child doesn’t have all their adult teeth yet?" Here is why early interceptive treatment is crucial for developing a healthy smile and who can benefit from it.

Phase I usually starts between ages 6 to 10 years. The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommends that all children be screened by an orthodontist at the age of 7. At this stage, children still have some of their baby teeth, while their permanent teeth are starting to erupt. This mix of teeth allows orthodontists to address certain developmental issues early on, creating a more favorable environment for the permanent teeth to come in. Also at this young age, the jaws are still developing, and an intervention can result in a true orthopedic change.

CONDITIONS OFTEN EVALUATED BY THE ORTHODONTIST

Dental crowding: Sometimes there is not enough room for permanent teeth to erupt properly. Phase I treatment can help create space by widening the upper jaw or guiding the eruption of teeth. This can prevent crowding and impaction, reducing the need for extractions in the future.

Early or late loss of baby teeth: This can disrupt the normal eruption pattern of permanent teeth. Interceptive treatment could help by creating or maintaining the space for the permanent teeth or by removing baby teeth in a timely manner to guide the permanent teeth into the dental arch.

Incorrect bite: One of the most common problems seen in young kids is a narrow or small upper jaw that results in the upper posterior or anterior teeth biting inside the lower teeth. These conditions are known as a crossbite or an underbite, respectively. It is crucial to detect this problem when the child is still developing, as this is the best time to use an expander. An expander is a very common dental appliance that, if used at the right age, can orthopedically widen the upper jaw. Crossbites left untreated can a ect chewing, dental health, facial symmetry, and, on some occasions, breathing.

that, if left untreated, could become more severe and complex to fix later. Think of it as laying the foundation for a strong and healthy smile. It can often minimize the extent and duration of future orthodontic treatment and prevent the need for more invasive procedures, like extractions and jaw surgery, later in life. It can also improve the appearance of the smile, boosting children's confidence during their formative years.

Not every child needs Phase I treatment. At Island Children's Dentistry, we always conduct a thorough examination to address the orthodontic needs of your child in the most personalized way. If Phase I is recommended, we use custom-designed appliances, braces, and even Invisalign, giving our little patients the best experience. Schedule a consultation to find out if your child is a candidate for early orthodontic treatment.

Harmful oral habits: Thumb sucking or tongue thrusting are common habits often persisting after the permanent teeth start to erupt. They can result in bite changes, like crossbites or open bites, if they are not addressed early. In these cases, the Orthodontist may suggest custom-made appliances that can help the child break the habit and allow normal development of the jaws and teeth. In a nutshell, Phase I treatment focuses on correcting problems

Lasers in Skincare: The Gold Standard for Radiant Skin

Laser treatments have revolutionized skincare, o ering targeted solutions for concerns like acne scars, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, and overall skin rejuvenation. By harnessing light energy, lasers stimulate collagen production, resurface damaged skin, and promote a smoother, more even complexion.

There are two main categories: ablative and nonablative lasers. Ablative lasers, such as CO2 and Erbium, work by removing outer layers of skin to encourage fresh cell turnover, making them ideal for deep wrinkles and scarring. Non-ablative options, like Fraxel and IPL, penetrate beneath the surface to target pigmentation, redness, and fine lines without significant downtime.

Choosing the right laser depends on your skin type, concerns, and downtime tolerance. While lasers can deliver incredible results, they require expert handling—always seek a licensed and experienced provider. Additionally, post-treatment care is crucial; SPF becomes non-negotiable, as treated skin is more sensitive to UV damage.

Lasers are a game-changer, but they’re not one-sizefits-all. A consultation with a skincare professional can help determine the best approach for your unique needs. When done correctly, laser treatments can transform your skin, delivering that sought-after glow with science-backed precision.

Pro Tip: For optimal post-laser recovery, consider Lira Clinical’s Health Recovery Balm. It will help calm inflammation and accelerate healing!

Home Organizing in 2025: Mindfulness and the Power of Decluttering

Owner of Minimize and Organize LLC

As we step into a new year, home organizing has evolved into a lifestyle shift that encompasses mindfulness, sustainability, and practical e iciency. With spring approaching, many people are gearing up for their annual deep clean. However, organizing is no longer just about tidying up; it's about creating a home that supports mental well-being, sustainability, and a more intentional way of living.

In today’s fast-paced world, clutter isn’t just physical—it’s mental. Studies show that an untidy space can increase stress and reduce focus. That’s where mindfulness comes in. Home organizing is no longer just about storing things neatly; it’s about curating your space with intention. Mindfulness teaches us to be present and aware of what we truly need, making decluttering a practice of selfcare rather than a chore.

By approaching home organizing with mindfulness, you create a living environment that supports your emotional and mental wellbeing. Instead of holding onto items out of guilt or habit, you start making conscious choices about what adds value to your life.

Spring has long been associated with renewal and fresh starts. In 2025, spring cleaning goes beyond dusting and vacuuming— it’s about reevaluating how we live in our spaces. Some key trends shaping home organization this year include sustainable decluttering, digital decluttering, and minimalism that meets functionality.

One of the biggest challenges in home organizing today is the overconsumption culture. Fast furniture and impulsive purchases lead to constant clutter cycles. In 2025, people are becoming more aware of their buying habits and shifting towards intentional ownership—choosing fewer, better-quality items that serve a real purpose.

Finally, there’s the issue of emotional attachment. Many people hold onto clutter due to sentimental value, fear of waste, or the idea that they “might need it someday.” The key to overcoming this is shifting from a scarcity mindset to an abundance mindset— trusting that you have what you need and that letting go makes room for better things.

If you’re ready to refresh your space, here’s a simple plan to get started: start small, use the “one-year rule”, declutter with purpose, adopt mindful consumption, and make it a habit.

Home organizing in 2025 is about more than just a neat space—it’s about creating a home that supports your well-being, aligns with your values, and enhances your daily life. Whether you’re spring cleaning, practicing mindfulness, or looking for ways to optimize your space, the key is intentionality. By making mindful choices, you’ll not only transform your home but also cultivate a more peaceful and fulfilling lifestyle.
