The FA Cup is an exciting knock-outstyle competition, and we hope that today is the start of an exciting cup run this season.
Good afternoon and welcome to The Nest for today’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup third round qualifying fixture against Needham Market.
Last week we welcomed a seasonhigh attendance to The Nest for our fixture against Real Bedford. Whilst we were disappointed not to walk away from the game with all three points, I know Andy Cook and all the players have taken positives from the performance, with another clean sheet and league point gained against a very experienced Real Bedford team.
Our opponents today, Needham Market, are a side that we know well; they have strong core values around their style of play, invest in their youth academy provision and as a club
operate to high standards. Although they have struggled to find form and rhythm in their league campaign, we know that they possess attacking threat and will be a different test for our City side today.
The FA Cup is an exciting knock-outstyle competition, and we hope that today is the start of an exciting cup run this season. Enjoy this afternoon’s game and we look forward to seeing you back at The Nest next weekend for another home fixture against Actonians in the FA WNL Plate.

Clean sheets and good defences win leagues, so the more we keep, the better chance we have of being at the right place in the final weeks of this season.
Head coach Andy Cook reflected on a point against in-form Real Bedford last weekend and spoke about his expectations for our first FA Cup fixture.
A good point against a good team; having had time to reflect on Sunday’s match, how do you assess our performance?
I think we know we are better than we showed and you’ll see that in this weekend’s performance and coming games. We are happy with the context of playing against the team who are the form team and the team who should be top with the budget they have.
How pleased are you that we have another clean sheet added to the tally?
Yeah, it’s what I want the team to have and work on all the time. Clean sheets and good defences win leagues, so the more we keep, the better chance we have of being at the right place in the final weeks of this season.
Back to the cup this weekend, where we face Needham Market. What are you hoping we take from this game coming?
I want a good performance on the day. I want to see us run and play and get into good shapes and positions and also goals, we are after a few for this game, as many as we can get.
Do you find it challenging going back and forth between the league and the cup, especially at this point in the season, or do we welcome the variety?
No, not at all, it’s enjoyable and to be honest the busier you are the more successful you are! If you don’t have breaks you’re doing something well as you’re in all competitions and all rounds. This is exactly what we want.

City Women were held to a goalless draw against high-flying Real Bedford Women at The Nest on Sunday afternoon.
Andy Cook brought back Ellie Smith, Natasha Snelling and Shannon Shaw to the starting lineup.
Eloise Morran also made a return to the side for the first time in two months, following a spell on the sidelines through a hamstring injury.
Into the game, Sarah Quantrill was required to pounce on a delivery early on from the visitors but the on-target shot had little power to test the City number one.
Abbie Benstead had space to shoot on the edge of the area but Bedford’s forward fired high and out of The Nest’s cage.
The Pirates claimed most of the opening spells of possession, putting the Canaries under pressure in their own half, but none of their efforts could find a lead in the opening 30 minutes.
City made appeals for a goal after the ball appeared to cross the line in a
defensive scramble from Bedford, but the referee waved away any shouts.
The second half opened with much of the same direction of play, Quantrill now required to make important parries to clear danger from the City box.
Sofia Stovold came close in the 50th minute, getting a flick on the end of a Bedford free-kick but her shot went narrowly wide.
Bedford hit the side netting through Chiara Meola shortly before substitute Freya Symonds slotted a lovely cross to Snelling, but the City forward was just out of reach.
The City stopper than made a huge clearance racing off her line to deny Amy McLean in a one-on-one.
Upon her substitution in the 70th minute, Morran managed a shot early into her appearance, but was blocked by a Bedford shirt.
The final passage of play was all City as they played a high press to keep Bedford high up the pitch, but were not able to get any shots in to find the winning goal.
