There are still many positives to take from this season’s campaign as we now turn our full attention towards

building for next season.

Good afternoon and welcome to Carrow Road for our final FA Women’s National League fixture of the season against QPR.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Real Bedford, who were officially crowned champions and have secured promotion into Tier 3 of the women’s football pyramid. For the second year running we will just miss out on promotion and whilst we are all disappointed, there are still many positives to take from this season’s campaign as we now turn our full attention towards building for next season.

As this is our last league fixture of the season, I would like to take this opportunity to show thanks and appreciation to everyone at the football club who has worked tirelessly behind the scenes in the build-up to this afternoon’s fixture.

Congratulations also to Lauren Hailes who has been named PFA Community Champion. Lauren has inspired many in the community and continues to be a positive female role model alongside all of her canary teammates.

As we turn our attention back to this afternoon’s fixture with QPR, I would like to ask our fantastic supporters to bring your energy and passion and get behind our City team. We hope that many in attendance today will return to support the team back at Carrow Road on Sunday, May 4 for the Norfolk Women’s County Cup final, as we look to retain our title.

Andy Cook
We’ll finish the season on a high at Carrow Road and then we have the County Cup final to come too, so hopefully they are both good performances with good results, so we can go into pre-season very happy.

In our final interview of the season with Andy Cook, the head coach reflects on an impressive campaign in Division One South East and what his highlights have been.

It’s our final league game of the 2024/25 campaign, how are you feeling about it and how do you reflect on the season as a whole?

We’re feeling really positive about it, playing at Carrow Road is a fantastic occasion and I think to finish the league season there is fitting really for the way we work and play. I think there will be a lot of good celebrations and a lot of good quality from the side. I’m looking for a really good, positive performance both in possession and out of possession. We can dominate the ball like we have done since the turn of the year and make sure that we are defensively solid and compact. We’re really excited, really looking forward to it.

Since the start of the calendar year, our form has been up there with the best in Tier 3 and Tier 4. We’ve dropped two points since January and it’s been superb, which is just down to the application of the players, they’ve been really focused on the psychological bits that I have wanted to go after, making sure that we’re in a really good place.

What has been a highlight for you this season, both on the pitch and off the pitch in Norfolk?

There’s been a couple of moments, as a club it’s been so pleasing to watch the development of the girls that have come through the pathway. Eloise Morran has really stepped up this season and played a pivotal role, becoming a key character and one of our captains this season. She’s been fantastic and really been key to everything we’ve been successful with this season. Following that, you’ve got Sienna Booty and Issy Moore who have been absolutely superb, playing a lot of minutes in the season and have been crucial to the success that we’ve had.

For me on a personal note, taking six points away from Chatham has been a huge positive, we played well in both those games and we dominated the away fixture with a huge following and that links to my next one; the supporters, all the Norwich fans have been superb all season.

Off the pitch, I have highlighted many times the areas of outstanding natural beauty that we have in the area, such as the seaside, like Cromer. For me, the city and the staff at the club have just been so welcoming, I couldn’t have asked for a better start.

Are we going to use the defeat earlier in the season at Loftus Road to finish the season on a high?

We really want to go and prove a point against QPR, we felt we played okay in that game, we had some positive moments but the way the game ended and the result went against us, we feel we owe them a performance. I don’t think on that day the performance was close to where we were and where we are now. Both the players and staff want to put on a really good performance to show QPR what we are about and what we should’ve been about at Loftus Road. It’s great to play the reverse fixture here at Carrow Road, it just shows what can happen when you have two progressive football clubs putting their women’s teams on the main stage at the home stadium.

How pleased are you with the season half of the season, going completely unbeaten and only dropping points against the league winners, Real Bedford?

Ultimately, we took two points away from Bedford, yes they took two points away from us, but drawing both games against Bedford is something we should be very proud of. They have a huge financial backing and they have got the rewards from that. I’m really proud of those performances, the away one was fantastic and we felt hard done by to come away with a draw, we felt we probably could have won it. The fact that those are the only points dropped in the second half of the season just shows where the team are, where the quality is and the way that we’ve been working. We’ve been defensively solid, we’ve worked the ball forward very well and got into some fantastic positions. I’m really pleased with this half of the season and couldn’t have asked for anything more from any one of them. We’ll finish the season on a high at Carrow Road and then we have the County Cup final to come too, so hopefully they are both good performances with good results, so we can go into pre-season very happy.

A superbly taken free-kick from Symonds broke the deadlock and a first goal for Smith since returning from injury sealed the win in style.

Actonians 0

Norwich City 2

Two second-half goals from Norwich City’s Freya Symonds and Ellie Smith clinched victory on the road against Actonians in the club’s final away game of the 2024/25 season.

Andy Cook made just one change to the side that beat London Bees in City’s last league outing, Lauren Hailes coming in for Megan Todd in midfield.

Lauren Tomlinson was set up by Holly Kennard in the middle to take the first shot of the tie, her effort falling wide of the target inside the opening two minutes.

The left-back then had another opportunity in the same area two minutes later, but again, was unable to find the back of the net.

A fantastic interception from Kennard deep in City’s half allowed her to make a run down the left wing and cross to Natasha Snelling in the box, but the forward was inches away from being able to make contact to tap in an opener.

Another lovely spell of play from the Canaries came from Olivia Cook on the right-hand side, using her pace to beat a defender and get a shot on target, but Elisa Dogor was able to block the shot out for a corner.

Symonds then took a chance inside the area, flicking an effort inches over the bar on the half-hour mark.

An Actonians free-kick from Amber Dredge

was the first threatening attack from the hosts, but the forward was only able to find the hands of Sarah Quantrill, waiting patiently in the area.

The half closed quietly as neither side were able to find the all-important an opener in the first 45 minutes.

Hailes was first to take a shot in the second half, Millie Daviss setting her up to shoot on the edge of the area, but the midfielder’s shot fell just wide.

Tomlinson had another optimistic effort from outside the box, shooting narrowly wide of the goal.

Symonds made an important interception from an Actonians goal-kick, slotting a ball to Cook on the right wing, but she was denied by a sea of blue and white shirts.

A point-blank save from Dogor kept the scores level after an hour played, Kennard and Snelling ready in the six-yard box to pounce on the loose ball.

More great footwork from Symonds kept a City attack alive, but Cook’s cross again was unable to find a Yellow to meet her in the box.

City then found the equaliser in stunning style, a free-kick from Symonds perfectly finding the bottom corner, no chance of Dogor getting a touch to it.

Symonds continued her duties on set-pieces, taking a corner from the left that was able to find Ellie Bishop but the defender’s flick fell just wide.

City then extended their lead with five minutes to go, a great run from Kennard eventually finding Smith to fire home and make it 2-0.

One final chance for the Canaries came from Daviss, who made a great run to get her shot at goal, only narrowly missing the target and hitting the bar.

Despite the win for the Canaries, Real Bedford’s 11-1 win over London Seaward confirms their promotion to the Southern Premier Division with one league game remaining in Division One South East.

Feature interview

Lauren Hailes

Our final feature interview of the season sees Lauren Hailes in the spotlight, where she discusses the season in review, playing at Carrow Road and winning the PFA Community Champion Award.

We’re somehow at the final game of the season, how are you all feeling ahead of the big Carrow Road tie?

The season has really flown by, it’s hard to believe this is the last league game.

We are all buzzing for this game! It’s always special to play at Carrow Road; we always appreciate the support from the fans and we really want to give them a good performance and atmosphere for the last game of this campaign!

You’ve played at the stadium before, but what advice has Andy given to the group ahead of the day and what advice will you share with the younger players who might make debuts?

Something that’s been echoed around the changing room recently by Andy is ‘playing in the moment’. Not only has it been important for us to focus on each game as they’ve come, but it can also be interpreted onto the pitch. Controlling the present moment that we can on the pitch, not dwelling on past actions in the game and thinking about how we can impact in future moments.

A message that I will share with the younger players is to just go out and enjoy the experience, focus on the task at hand but make sure to soak up the atmosphere. Have confidence in your ability and don’t be afraid to express yourself on the pitch, because as your teammates, we will back you every day of the week!

How would you reflect on your season as a whole with the squad?

It’s been a real rollercoaster. Personally, obviously I’ve had a few injuries and therefore have missed out on some of the season, but these are all things that push you to work even harder and therefore you become stronger because of it! As a squad we’ve had many highs, but faced many challenges too.

We now know we won’t achieve promotion this season - how were the squad feeling after that confirmation last week?

We are disappointed to have not taken the top spot this season, as we know our form before the Christmas break wasn’t good enough and is ultimately what caused the gaps in the table to form.

I couldn’t be more proud of the girls, everyone has worked so hard and whilst we have just missed out on promotion, the season still isn’t over, there is plenty still to play for.

We will keep working hard and when the time comes, we will dust ourselves off and go again!

However, we can’t fault the efforts of the squad, coaches and staff since then. Work rate has been top week in and week out, and the mentality to come back from that speaks volumes about the group.

There is loads to be proud of this season and many positives and things we have learnt

from to take into the next. Ultimately, we are gutted for the fans, everything we do is for them and we are really disappointed and apologise to them for not being able to win it this season. Stick with us Canaries fans… this fight is far from over!

QPR are a tough side to beat and have had a good season - are we hoping to get revenge from the result earlier in the season at Loftus Road?

100%, obviously the reverse fixture didn’t go our way and there is lots we have learnt from to take into this game. It’s crucial to us that we get the win today to guarantee the second position in the table, and we want to give the fans a great game too. We have prepared well during training this week and we are ready to put on a performance!

How are you doing following a couple of injuries during the season? Are you fully recovered and feeling good again?

Yes, all good now thank you. It’s obviously tough being out injured, every footballer goes through them, but it’s always about the comeback rather than the setback. I had a great support system behind me including Gill and Robyn our physios and Will our strength and conditioning and performance coach, as well as my teammates, so I’m feeling even stronger and fitter than before.

You also were recently just awarded the PFA Community Champion award for 2024/25. Congratulations, how does that title feel?

It’s an honour to have received this award, I am very thankful to the club and the Community Sports Foundation for the opportunities they

provide us with to support and inspire others. When I joined the women’s team last season, I knew I wanted to be as much of a role model as I could for others that are not only part of the performance pathways but also those that attend the other amazing events the Foundation has to offer. I grew up attending loads of them myself including school football festivals, signing sessions and half-term football camps, so, to have been able to give back to the community by now attending these as a women’s player has been special. I hope I have been able to bring joy and excitement to these sessions! And who knows, I may have just met a few future starts of the club too - how exciting!

What’s been a highlight for you across the 2024/25 campaign?

It’s hard to choose as I think there have been so

many highs throughout the season. I think it would have to be scoring my first senior hat-trick against Ashford Town, a moment that I will remember for the rest of my career. It was also my first start of the season and I was really excited to be playing in the midfield with Smithy and Eloise. It was special to share that moment with my teammates, and to celebrate a really good away win!

What are your personal goals for next season?

I think for me, I want to push myself even further out of my comfort zone and to take more risks, because without risks, there is no reward! With this I’m also going to challenge myself to be even more of an attacking threat, whilst continuing to be as versatile as I can. So that’s something I’m going to work hard on over the off season.

Promotion is also obviously top of the list!

The club are delighted to announce that Lauren Hailes has been chosen as the PFA Community Champion for the 2024/25 season.

The award was presented by the Community Sports Foundation, who were keen to highlight the work Hailes had done in the community over the course of the last year.

Despite facing various injuries during the campaign, Hailes was regularly involved in community appearances, showing up to soccer schools at The Nest, speaking at an International Women’s Day event and attending the club’s Christmas hospital visits.

Opposition Overview: QPR

Today we welcome Queens Park Rangers to Carrow Road in our final fixture of the 2024/25 season.

The R’s will be hoping to gain a place on London Bees for fourth spot in Division One South East, their joint highest finish since the 2021/2022 campaign.

Danny Harrigan’s side have picked up 36 points in 21 games played, with 10 wins, six draws and five losses.

They have claimed four wins out of five in their most recent league outings, only losing out to league winners Real Bedford.

Their last Division One South East tie earned them an impressive 4-1 win over Cambridge United on home turf, Courtnay Ward-Chambers, Emily Hill, Billie Brooks and Jess Leach on the scoresheet.

Top-scorer Grace Stanley currently has 14 goals to her name, WardChambers not far behind on nine.

Although eight points behind the Canaries, QPR will be hoping to maintain an unbeaten record against Norwich City this season, having claimed a 2-1 win at Loftus Road earlier in the season.

Opposition manager: Danny Harrigan

Today’s opposition manager Danny Harrigan gives an insight into the R’s season and how they have prepared for the fixture at Carrow Road.

It’s somehow already the last game of the season; how are you and the R’s feeling ahead of the day?

It’s hard to believe it’s the final game already! The season’s flown by, but we’re feeling really positive going into the last match. The squad is in good spirits, and there’s a real determination to finish on a high and give a strong account of ourselves one last time.

How do you reflect on your season as a whole?

We’re really proud of what we’ve achieved this year. There’s been so much growth across the team, on and off the pitch. We’ve developed our style, built some great momentum, and created a strong team spirit. It’s been a season of progress, and we’re excited about what the future holds.

You claimed an impressive victory over the Canaries in the reverse fixture; will that be used as motivation for this tie?

That was a good result for us earlier in the season, but we know every game is different. Norwich are a strong side, and we’re expecting another tough test. We’ll take

confidence from how we’ve played recently and focus on putting in a performance that reflects how far we’ve come.

That game was played in front of an impressive crowd at Loftus Road; are you pleased to be playing at another stadium before the season ends?

Definitely! It’s always special to play at different grounds and in front of supporters who care about the game. We’re really looking forward to it - it’s another great stage for both team to express themselves and enjoy the occasion.

What would you say to encourage as many supporters, both QPR and Norwich City, to attend this final game of the season?

It’s the last chance to come out and support the team this season, and it really does mean the world to us to have fans in the stands. It’s more than just a game, it’s a celebration of all the hard work, the progress, and the passion that’s gone into the season. Whether you’re wearing blue and white or yellow and green, we’d love to see you there, enjoying the football and showing your support for the women’s game.

Stuck in a Mindset Dip?

Core Values Can Help

We talk a lot about how core values help you: Make

We know core values help with decisions, careers, and relationships - but they can also pull you out of a slump. Connect with people

But they’re also brilliant for shifting your mindset when motivation dips, goals feel out of reach, or procrastination takes over.

This isn’t about finding your values (though if you need help, email me and I’ll ping over a guide). It’s about using them when you feel stuck.

Next time you feel that way, and after you’ve identified your 3 or 4 core values, follow these steps to lift yourself out of that slump:

01

How would you describe your current mood? Write it down. 02

Notice what’s pulling your focus - or what you’re avoiding. 03

Match it to one of your core values (likely the negative side of one). 04

Identify another value you’re out of alignment with.

Write down one action that supports that value.

Don’t think about it too much, just get going with that action.

Check your mood. Write it down. Notice if it’s different to step 01. 08

Give yourself a pat on the back and a big high five.

Feature interview

As the season draws to a close, club captain Megan Todd reflected on the 2024/25 campaign and what playing at Carrow Road means to the squad.

It’s now the last day of the 2024/25 season; what’s the mood around the squad ahead of the Carrow Road game?

We are always excited to play at Carrow Road, and our focus is to win our last game of the season. We have gone unbeaten this half of the season and we want to ensure that continues. We know last time we played QPR we weren’t at our best and we want to ensure we put in a performance and get the three points. The girls are in good spirits, and it has been a good second half of the season. Of course we are disappointed not to have won the league; we know the results before Christmas hurt us. However, the resilience, togetherness and squad depth in this team is just class and we’ve bounced right back. That’s what makes this group so special and I had no doubt that we would start to get the results again.

Just describe to the fans what it feels like to walk out of the tunnel and see all the supporters cheering you on?

It is a really special moment to walk out in your home stadium to fans cheering you on. I love playing at Carrow Road and especially being from Norwich, it is even more special. I know I bang on about being an older player, but I never thought I would get to experience playing at Carrow Road in front of a crowd with family and friends supporting too. I think the main feeling when walking out is just feeling special, and for me highlights why we play football; for moments like these.

What has been your personal season highlight?

I think for me it is the growth of players in the team this season. A massive well done to Poppy, Issy, Drew, Sienna and Amber for making their senior debuts this season. From being able to work with these players for a few years and coaching them to playing alongside them is a proud moment. I think this has shown to young girls in Norwich coming through the pathway that if you work hard, show good behaviours and believe in yourself, you can hopefully one

day play for the women’s team. I am excited to see where their journeys take them. Even though I haven’t called her a younger player, continuing to see Eloise dominate in midfield at Tier 4 and represent Scotland at youth level is incredible. I could go through the whole team as each one of them have grown as players this season in their own ways!

Even though you started the season on the sidelines through injury, you’ve been a great presence in the team this year. How much have you enjoyed being captain this season?

It has been an honour to captain this club this season. It has been a difficult season for me personally as a player, but I have been able to support the girls in so many different ways. Being a captain isn’t just about an

on-pitch presence, it is much more, and includes everything you do off the pitch. It has been hard for me sometimes, but the girls have supported and picked me up when I needed it and like I said, that is what makes this group so special. Everyone supports everyone and we push each other.

What message do you have to the fans for showing their fantastic support to this Carrow Road fixture?

The support you give us really makes a difference in games and spurs us on. A massive shoutout to those fans who have been to home and away games this season, that commitment to us is unbelievable and we truly appreciate the support. We hope you all enjoy the game today and hopefully we top it off with a win!

Who are we?

We are the first official supporters club for Norwich City Women FC. Our aim is to further drive forward the women's game and build a connection between the women's team fans and the wider club, as well as increasing the atmosphere at matches.

What have we done?

Since launching a year ago, we have partnered with the campaign HerGameToo. We also became an associate member of The Football Supporters Association, which has enabled us to be a part of their women's network and take the fans voices directly to those developing the game. We attended and voted at The FSA Annual General Meeting last summer.

On a match level, we strive to increase the atmosphere at The Nest by bringing fans together to make some noise. You will have seen our flags behind the goal and our more recently added waver flag, which is waved by a different fan at each game as our team emerge to the pitch.

How can you get involved?

Our supporters club is 100% fan focused and we want you to be involved. Come and make some noise with us at The Nest and follow our social media pages.

If you would like the chance to be a flag bearer next season, let us know!

We have big ideas for next season which will hopefully involve some social events too but we would love fans input on this!

Also, if you attend a game tag us in your photos and videos so we can share them.

Enjoy the game Canary Fans and let's make some noise!!

A Guide To Being Your Own Mindset Coach

Having a Mindset Coach is a game-changer. I would say that; it’s what I do. But being your own Coach is also fabulous especially when you’re feeling stuck or in a negative frame of mind.

An important bit of science: Our brains process things properly when they are spoken out loud or written down. So talk to yourself or grab a sheet of paper.

List out all the things that you’re keeping inside that are making you feel stuck or negative.

All of them. Tell yourself it’s OK to feel like this. Do not judge yourself or be hard on yourself.

What is behind feeling like this? List out the why (or all of them).

Even if it comes into your head and makes no sense, write it down or say it out loud. All of it.

Ask yourself what else is behind this?

What is the limiting belief that is at the root of this feeling - don’t force it, just allow the words out.

Allow your brain to process this new level of seeing your thoughts.

Now they are no longer just in your head, your brain will ‘see’ them and work its magic on processing them.

You might now have an idea, solution or thought when you least expect it. It is very important to recognise that; capture it so you have it saved. You can then act on it when the time is right.

Floss Andrews is a Personal Development and Mindset Coach supporting footballers, their families and those in the sports industry, thrive on, off and beyond the pitch.
