This season we have been able to make The Nest a fortress
Good afternoon and welcome back to The Nest for our fourth home game in as many weekends.
This season we have been able to make The Nest a fortress and last weekend’s performance and 5-0 victory against Needham Market encompassed this. The FA Cup is always a special competition to be part of and we were delighted to kick-start our campaign with an emphatic win. We will now play Cambridge United away from home on Sunday, November 3 in the next round of the competition, which will be a different test to what we faced against Needham Market.
This week Eloise Morran received her latest Scotland Under-19’s call-up, a
real testament to her hard work and commitment to seek improvements at every opportunity she has. I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate our performance staff who continue to support the development of Eloise and the wider playing squad day-in-day-out.
Today we play Actonians in the second round of the FA WNL Plate competition and we will need all our City fans to get behind our team as we look to extend our unbeaten run at The Nest.

We are always nice and relaxed playing in front of our home fans.
Andy Cook reflects on another busy week in the schedule, his FA Cup experience and this weekend’s opposition in the Plate.
Last weekend we were back to winning ways with a 5-0 win in the FA Cup, how pleased were you with that performance?
Really pleased, that was the most complete performance of the season so far. Through the 90 we didn’t step off and moved the ball excellently. Five goals was impressive and it could have been more!
We know that you have great experience in cup competitions and you love being a part of them, just remind us of your accolades over the years with your various clubs?
Thank you! At Nottingham Forest we won the FAWNL Plate, beating Wimbledon in the final 2-1. A good game and one where we really imposed the team in possession shape on them. Then the season after we won the League Cup, beating Watford in the final. That was in extra time; we managed to get the goal to make it 3-2 and I celebrated with a run down the sideline, some say like Barry Fry for Peterborough others say like Jose for Porto vs Man United, but that’s not for me to say which one I think I am. And then last season with Newcastle United we reached the final of
the League Cup beating Portsmouth in front of 22,000 at St James Park but we lost that game 2-1, unfortunately. But I do love a cup run and the competitions in the FAWNL.
We face Actonians in the Plate this weekend and then again in the league just two fixtures later, do we see this one as a practice run and a chance to work them out?
For them too. Both teams will find out what the other is about this season but more so for me I’m the newest person to this fixture. The players and staff know them well from previous seasons and this year they’ve started excellently scoring goals and picking up points so it will be an exciting game.
This is now our fourth home game in a row, how much do you and the squad love playing at The Nest?
It’s brilliant. It’s a fantastic facility and when we have 400 or so in The Nest, it’s always a great atmosphere and one we love playing in front of. So, we are always nice and relaxed playing in front of our home fans.

Norwich City Women 5 Needham Market 0
It was a cold and breezy welcoming for the Canaries at The Nest on Sunday, October 13, as they faced Needham Market Women in the third qualifying round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.
Early pressure was established by the hosts, who enjoyed most of the possession in and around the Needham 18-yard box during the opening ten minutes. Barring a handful of direct and defence-splitting passes denied by the offside flag, the game’s early tempo remained subdued.
After a stop-start quarter of an hour, the visitors came close to opening the scoring, as Cate Jackson rattled the crossbar from long range.
The 20th minute would see Norwich’s first big chance coming via Millie Daviss, who was denied well at the near post by Danielle Clarke in the Needham goal.
Six minutes later, City would get the breakthrough via some lovely end-to-end football. Sarah Quantrill distributed to Ceri Flye, who picked out Shannon Shaw with a perfectly weighted pass. Shaw looked up and saw the incoming Natasha Snelling, whose first-time effort would kiss the post on the way in.
The Canaries would ride this momentum and continue to cause problems. In the 34th minute, another dangerous cross would find Ellie
Smith, who was denied by some brave goalkeeping from Clarke. Daviss was onto the rebound in a flash to double Norwich’s advantage.
Some more defensive heroics and a good stop from Clark to deny Shaw’s point-blank header in the 45th minute would ensure the score remained 2-0 as the clock struck 45. However, in the fourth minute of additional time, Snelling would latch onto a deflected Liv Cook effort to lash the ball home for three.
It was a contrastingly fast start to the second half, with Millie Daviss again proving to be a catalyst for the Canaries. But it would be a signature long throw-in from Lauren Tomlinson that would provide for Snelling’s hat-trick in the 50th minute with a looping finish over the ‘keeper.
A procession of crosses and corners would provide moments of danger for Norwich as the second half progressed, but the final touch was proving more difficult to come by.
A late break of Norwich’s defensive line gave Needham a golden opportunity to claw one back, but the amounting effort was dragged wide of the mark.
Moments later, Daviss dug out yet another brilliant cross on the by-line to find an unmarked Holly Kennard in the area to head home and seal the deal for City.

Feature interview
City striker Natasha Snelling is in the hot seat this week, as she talks about welcoming the new generation of Canaries into the team and reflects on the season so far.
A first hat-trick of the season for you Sunday, how are you feeling after that result?
I think 5-0 in a cup competition is a good result and we are happy with that, it gives us a good momentum going into next Sunday! To get my first hat-trick of the season is a personal achievement for me but I’m just glad it helps the team.
You could have had more on the day, what is the most you remember ever scoring in a game?
It’s just one of those things, you can’t score them all hey! A coach told me years and years
ago if you have 10 shots on target at least 1 will go in! I believe I’ve scored 6 in a game before and that was a cup competition a while ago.
We’re also still top of the table and plenty of wins, how would you assess our season so far in the league?
Last season we were so close to achieving our goal in promotion, but we weren’t ruthless enough in games where we should of won, we are not taking anything for granted this season, there is plenty of good teams in this league but we just have to concentrate on each game and getting three points. The league position will then take care of itself.
PROUD PARTNERS OF NORWICH CITY FC
We’re also very busy with cup competitions at this stage, do you all really enjoy those or would you rather have full focus on the league?
A game is a game, for me every time you go out on the pitch whether it’s league or cup, we play to win. Of course, the league is our main priority but who doesn’t like a good cup run?!
As our current longest serving member of the team, what advice would you give to the rest of the girls, especially those ones who joined just this season?
Enjoy it, that’s the main thing. When I first started we didn’t have all the facilities, the
background staff or the fan base that we have now, so these young players have a great opportunity to achieve something in the women’s game.
As someone I imagine those new players look up to, how have you found them settling in, do they ever come to you for advice?
I think the new players this season have just settled in well and become part of the squad with ease, we are a friendly group at Norwich, so we welcome anyone new with open arms.
Is Lara someone you have connected well with, both of you able to play similar attacking roles?
When I first started we didn’t have all the facilities, the background staff or the fanbase that we have now, so these young players have a great opportunity to achieve something in the women’s game.
Yeah, me and Lara have connected well on the pitch and in training, she is a talented footballer who has been a great addition to the team! We have some similarities in our game and can definitely work well together on the pitch.
We know you work full time alongside attending all training and matches, how do you find a work-life balance, what do you do to relax?
Don’t get me wrong working full time, then training three times a week plus a game on a Sunday is hard, but when you enjoy something so much and it has been a massive part of your life for so long, it’s a commitment I enjoy.
fine-tune our game plan and build some momentum ahead of the league fixture.
This weekend’s fixture sees us in cup action against Actonians. Do you see this is good practise for the upcoming league fixture against them?
Definitely! Playing them in the cup gives us a chance to gauge their strengths and weaknesses. It’s a great opportunity to
You’ve seen us in this league for a few seasons now and we got so close to promotion last season, is that the only goal for us this year?
I think it’s our priority but not our only goal, the club is moving in the right direction and if we go into Tier 3 football, we want to stay there, so we are making sure we have everything on and off the pitch to support us.
Opposition Overview: Actonians
This weekend we welcome Actonians to The Nest in round two of the FAWNL Plate.
Our visitors currently occupy second in the league, just one point behind the Canaries.
They too have had a strong start to the 2024/25 campaign, collecting four wins, two draws and just one loss, which came in their most recent league outing away to Dulwich Hamlet.
Actonians’ best result saw a 9-2 win over Chesham United, top-scorer Dior Knorr netting twice.
The lead up to today’s Plate fixture saw them knocked out of the cup by London Bees in a 2-1 away loss, then wins against Abingdon United in Division One South West (3-0) and Chatham Town (1-0).
The Blues were also in FA Cup action last weekend, progressing through to the next round after a 2-0 win over Dartford. They will now play away to Oxford United in round one.

Norwich City Women’s Eloise Morran has once again been called up for the Scotland Women Under-19s squad, as the national team compete in the 2024 Slovenia Nations Cup.
Gary Doctor’s side will travel to Ljubljana later this month for three group fixtures.
A match against Croatia will kick-off the campaign on Wednesday, October 23, before the side face Romania three days later. They then close out the camp with a match against hosts Slovenia on Tuesday, October 29.
For me I volunteer to support the club, watching them develop over the last couple of seasons made me fall in love with football all over again. I go to the men’s games too but my heart is with the women’s team, so anything I can do to give back and help with the growth is really important to me. It’s not just that, we’re a family up here at The Nest, everyone gets along really well, the staff, players and fans. It makes me happy to be here and there’s so much support for the volunteers, we get so much back from it. I’d be stupid not to do it!
We are proud to have a fantastic group of matchday helpers on hand every home game who give up their valuable time to show their support in more ways than one for the club they love.
We want to put a spotlight on who they are and why they do what they do.
Make sure to say hello if you see them around!
