Why Transfer to NSU? With over 50-degree programs, Northwestern State offers classroom training and practical experience needed for students to gain employment after graduation. NSU is a friendly, student-oriented university that is in the words of one alumnus, “large enough to serve you, but small enough to know you.”

CONVENIENCE The main campus is in Natchitoches, Louisiana, but Northwestern State makes it possible for you to take classes at a location in the surrounding area, or even in the comfort of your home. Northwestern’s service area hosts six offcampus instructional sites. Face-to-face and compressed video courses are offered at these sites. NSU is a leader in the delivery of internet-based options, which include obtaining an Associate, Bachelor, Master, Specialist, Doctoral, and Addon Certifications. Since learning often takes place outside a traditional classroom, you can structure your coursework to fit your own schedule. As an online student, you will have access to the same services as a traditional, on-campus student.

Northwestern State offers online application for admission, fee payment, and financial aid.

COST With exceptional faculty and resources, one would expect to pay a fortune while attending NSU, but that is not the case. The most up-to-date information on tuition and fees can be found at nsula. edu/student-accounting-cashiering. These figures are based on full-time attendance and exclude other optional costs. Room and board costs are based on your selection of housing and meal plans.

We also offer competitive financial aid packages to make it easier for everyone to get the education they need.

FINANCIAL AID To determine eligibility for state, federal, or university financial assistance, each student must fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This form can be obtained on the internet at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa, http:// financialaid.nsula.edu, or from any high school or college.

SCHOLARSHIPS Northwestern State awards a variety of scholarships based on academic achievement, leadership skills, and talent performance.

Louisiana students who currently receive T.O.P.S. can transfer it to NSU if they are in good academic standing. Out-of-state students can receive fee waivers through participation in spirit groups, athletics, band, music, theatre, or academic achievement. To be considered for academic and leadership scholarships, go to nsula.edu and click on the “Apply Now” link to complete the NSU Foundation and Leadership Scholarship application.

TRANSFER ADMISSION CRITERIA Students desiring to transfer to Northwestern State University will be eligible for admission to a degree program if they meet the following Minimum Admission Criteria: •

Must have a transferrable Associate Degree (AA or AS) or higher from a regionally accredited institution OR

•

Have 18 college-level hours earned with a 2.0 minimum GPA on those hours (this GPA does not include remedial/developmental coursework) AND

•

Must have completed a college-level English and a college-level Mathematics course designated to fulfill general education requirements with a grade of “C” or higher.

Those students who do not have the minimum 18 college-level hours earned must also meet the firsttime freshman admission criteria. No transfer student will be admitted, even by exception, if he/she needs remedial course work.

STEPS TO ADMISSION 1. Complete your admission application on-line at nsu.la/apply.

2. Submit official transcripts from each college or university attended to the Admissions Office.

They can be mailed directly from the school or electronically sent to applications@nsula.edu.

3. Submit a completed immunization form or waiver.

You can also download this from the Admissions Office website at nsula.edu/admissions and submit it electronically, via mail, or fax.

4. Submit a copy of your Selective Service Card (only males age 25 or younger). Go to sss.gov to verify a registration or to register.

5. Submit an official copy of your high school transcript if you have less than 18 hours earned.

Depending on certain situations, official ACT/SAT or Accuplacer scores will be required.

STUDENT LIFE Life outside the classroom is also an important part of the university. Northwestern State offers its students more than 100 student organizations ranging from religious and service clubs to academic, honor, and social organizations. We also have three Greek councils: College Panhellenic Council, Interfraternal Council, and National Pan-Hellenic Council. There is something for everyone! These organizations give students a chance to enhance their college experience by meeting new people, developing leadership skills, and helping the local community.

NSU is also proud to host 14 NCAA recognized sports, as well as intramurals and club sports. In addition to the Spirit of Northwestern Marching Band, there are three dynamic spirit groups – NSU Cheerleaders, Demon Dazzler Danceline, and the Purple Pizzazz Pom Line. Students may audition for selection and scholarships for these groups.

The 6.9 million dollar Wellness, Recreation, and Activities Center (WRAC) makes it easy for students to stay physically fit while remaining involved on campus. This 81,000 square foot facility includes a cardio theater, group exercise room, racquetball courts, and an indoor track. It also houses two gyms with 4 basketball courts, a free weight and strength area, and much more. Students can also enjoy the recreation complex near campus that includes an eighteen-hole golf course and an Olympic-size swimming pool.

LOCATION Northwestern is the perfect size university located in the ideal college town of Natchitoches, Louisiana. The community of approximately 20,000 was established in 1714 and is the oldest permanent settlement in the Louisiana Purchase.

With one of only two National Historic Landmark Districts in the state, this quaint and lively town has much to discover including shopping, dining, attractions, a national historic park, museums, and year-round cultural events and festivals.
