We are so grateful you’ve decided to a end the Northwestern State University Cane River Singers fall performance this evening. On behalf of Professor Adam Philley, Associate Director of Choral Ac vi es, and myself, we are honored to present to you “And On Earth Peace” featuring the NSU Cane River Singers, chamber orchestra, alumnus Micah Dugas as our collabora ve ar st, and Dr. Robert Cardwell and alumna Malaina Aultman as our guest soloists.

With over 150 par cipants across five choral and vocal ensembles, the School of Crea ve and Performing Arts at Northwestern State University offers a comprehensive choral program that prepares the music and non-music major for the rigorous demands of the 21st century performing world. Students sing diverse repertoire and par cipate in innova ve performances that will allow them to find their voice. Choral students engage with ac ve professionals across Louisiana and beyond to receive real-life experience with choral professionals that can only be found at NSU. Students work with excep onal faculty through applied lesson instruc on for majors in Music Educa on, Vocal Performance, Music Business, and Sacred Music. The NSU Choirs provide opportuni es for interna onal travel, significant touring and performances, and experiences with pedagogical leaders in the field through guest ar sts and world-class performers.

Cane River Singers is an unaudi oned mixed chorus comprised of music and non-music undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and community members specializing in the performance of choral masterworks. Cane River Singers has performed meless repertoire including Bach’s Magnificat in D major, Duruflé’s Requiem, Orff ’s Carmina Burana, Vivaldi’s Gloria, and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. Tonight’s performance features a performance of Mozart’s Corona on Mass in C Major, K. 317 and Finzi’s In terra pax. We are grateful for our instrumental faculty members and students joining us for our chamber orchestra for the Mozart. Special thanks to Sco Burrell, Director of the School of Crea ve and Performing Arts, and Dr. Terrie Sanders, chair of the Department of Music, for their support.

Northwestern State was founded in 1884 as Louisiana Normal School for the education of teachers. NSU music students rehearse, attend classes, take private instruction, and perform in one of the most outstanding Performing Arts facilities in the South, the A.A. Fredericks Center for the Creative and Performing Arts, named to honor one of Northwestern State’s most outstanding administrators.

The Magale Recital Hall, endowed by the Magale family of Waterproof, Louisiana, seats over 400, and is one of the finest concer t halls in the U.S. It is equipped with a 40-rank Reuter organ, two nine-foot grand pianos, and an Eric Hertz harpsichord. The 1400-seat Fine Arts Auditorium is used for larger concerts, musicals and opera, dance, and numerous theatre productions. Many performing opportunities for students include several choirs, opera theatre, orchestra, marching band, wind ensemble, jazz orchestra, percussion ensemble, and a variety of chamber music groups. Degree offerings include the Bachelor of Music in Performance, the Bachelor of Music/Sacred Music Concentration, the Bachelor of Music Education, and the Master of Music.

PLAY WITH US! MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS @ NORTHWESTERN STATE

Students are eligible to receive scholarships for participation in music ensembles, regardless of their academic major. Scholarship awards vary, and are determined by factors including a talent audition, high school achievements, academic scores and financial need.
