‘I always come back for the fair’ By Bailey Wright The Citizen
Town native Adrianne Appel has made it a tradition to get to the North Haven Fair every year, even after moving to another state. Last Friday, she and her 3year-old daughter Eva traveled from Massachusetts to meet Appel’s sister among the livestock and homemade crafts at the 76th annual fair on Washington Avenue. “I try to always come back Eva Appel, 3, of Massachusetts, wipes her hands excitedly for the fair,” Appel said. Sturtz, four-term president of the North Haven Lions Club (2014-2018) and former president of the New Haven Lions Club (1998-1999), was recently recognized for his 25 years of community and humanitarian service to his club and community by the Lions Clubs International Foundation and was named a Melvin Jones Fellow, the highest honor bestowed by LCIF. Sturtz has also served on numerous committees at the See Lions, A5
Growing up in North Haven, she said her family would go all the time when she was a kid, and as a teenager, the fair was “the place to be.” She remembers entering some crafts in the exhibits a few times, and one year won the grand prize in candymaking for her grandmother’s “snowball” recipe made with dates and coconut. The fair wrapped up Sunday. The final day featured the Middlesex County Tractor Pullers, the bands DynaMojo and Cracked Walnuts, and Northeast Wrestling. “People still come because it’s the fair and it only hap-

“The rains seem to have watches, and they know exactly when to let loose,” Pastor Warren Ruf said with a laugh. His church offered free health screenings. When the weather cleared Friday night, the North Haven band “Band Mannerz” started playing Johnny Nash’s “I Can See Clearly Now” to the delight of the crowd. State: no date set for Wharton Brook reopening By Jeniece Roman Record-Journal staff
WALLINGFORD — A Department of Energy and Environmental Protection spokesperson says there is no set date for the reopening of Wharton Brook State Park, which was devastated by May’s microburst.
Sleeping Giant Park in Hamden was also devastated by the May storm. Mushinsky said areas of Wharton Brook must be stabilized because erosion and runoff could lead to contamination of nearby bodies of water. She said the extent of some of the damage is still unknown. “They [Wharton Brook and Sleeping Giant] sure look different today — than they

Letters to the Editor Supports Yaccarino To the editor: I am a lifelong North Haven resident and a U.S. Air Force veteran. I first met Dave Yaccarino in science class at Orchard Hill Middle School. Then, and ever since, he was easy to talk to and got along with everyone. I never heard Dave yell or bully, and he has remained the fair, gentle yet effective man he has always been. He spent time in the Navy Reserves, started a business and raised a family. I have never known a better man. My friend, state Rep. Dave Yaccarino, is one big reason why North Haven is the place where people wish to live and raise their families.
Vote for a problem-solver To the editor: On Nov. 6, North Haven residents will have the opportunity to elect the first female State Representative for North Haven, Theresa Ranciato-Viele. Our state is 51 percent female, but only 27 percent are representing us in Hartford.

To the editor:
Theresa Ranciato-Viele is the State Representative North Haven needs. Her decadeslong experience on town boards and commissions demonstrates her intimate and personal knowledge of our town’s needs and residents' priorities. She is proactive, fair, bold and thoughtful in her leadership. She takes the time to truly understand an issue and is not one to follow rank – regardless of party affiliation.
Attention all North Haven residents. Please attend two very important meetings.
Theresa has a strong grasp on how governing works. But most importantly, she knows how to listen to people and help them find resolutions to their issues.
