Students shave heads for good cause Clinton, By Ken Liebeskind The North Haven Citizen

On March 9, Clintonville Elementary School held its first annual St. Baldrick’s event, with 38 students choosing to have their head shaved in the fundraiser, which brought in more than $9,000 for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. The funds will go to promote childhood cancer research. The Clintonville gym was crowded with students, parents and residents who witnessed the activity-filled event, which included face painting and a raf-

fle, along with the head-shaving. JT Thomas, a 6-year-old first grader, was one of the first shavees. “He said, ‘I want to shave my head for St. Baldrick’s,’ and he did it,” Monica Thomas, the youngster’s mother said. Kathryn Raccio, owner of Terrace Hair Studio in North Haven, one of four barbers who participated in the event, carefully shaved JT’s scalp, spending extra time to do it, because he had long black hair when the Kathryn Raccio shaves JT Thomas’ head at the St. evening began. Sanders reps speak By Ken Liebeskind The North Haven Citizen

After the North Haven Democratic Town Committee reelected its key officers for 2016-2018 on March 8, representatives of Bernie Sanders’ and Hillary Clinton’s Connecticut campaigns addressed the crowd in anticipation of the presidential primary on April 26. “It’s an exciting year and very important you keep the White House Democratic,” DTC chair Walter Spader said, before introducing the speakers. “Each Republican candidate is more scary than the next, with options worse than Trump.” Kim Caron and Bob Stone spoke first, in support of Sen. Sanders. Caron delivered a personal message, asserting that Sanders will help her and her children with job and school issues. “I’m a working class girl and got laid off at Pratt & Whitney. I have less than my parents and I’m concerned that my kids will have less than I do. Economic security is a big deal for me. With stagnant wages, I’m at the end of my rope and I don’t know what my kids will do for college,” she said. She said Sanders is looking to assist America’s middle class, and fight for tax reform and a solution to climate See Reps / Page 19
