An Act of Kindness Helps Create A Special Relationship By Meg Honey, Brownie Troop 33886 Leader
L
ast year, Brownie Troop 33886 had just begun their very first Girl Scout Cookie selling experience when a buyer (who wishes to remain anonymous) bought 20 boxes of cookies. But this sale was not typical. The buyer made one condition with the transaction: the cookies had to be donated. After some careful thought and research, my daughter decided to donate the cookies to the Trinity Center, and a special relationship was born. The Trinity Center, a non-residential program serving homeless and working poor adult men and women in Walnut Creek and Central Contra Costa County, provides “an open door” to resources including a day shelter, food pantry, clothing closet, showers, laundry, mail services, and case management. Operating since 2012, Trinity serves both individuals and families. In April, the organization will move into its totally updated location: the Saint Paul’s Commons, a community-serving center that includes over 50 residential apartment spaces.

These girls bring all of their best energy when they visit and remind our members that they are more than just homeless: they are people deserving of respect, love and dignity. Tell us about what you or your neighbors are doing to spread kindness. I hope this will inspire us all to make the world a little nicer. Please send stories and photos to knavolio@bestversionmedia.com.
Since our initial visit to drop off the cookies, our Troop has connected with our friends at the Trinity Center several times. In the fall, our Troop voted to donate some of our cookie earnings to the Trinity Center. When we presented our check, we were fortunate to be able to also tour the temporary facility and learn about the vital work the organization does in our community. On Valentine’s Day, some of our Brownies visited with Trinity members at lunchtime and brought them homemade Valentines and sweet treats. We are looking forward to our next project: healthy “snack packs” that our Troop will construct and distribute to Trinity members. We feel lucky to partner with the Trinity Center and learn about the organization’s important services and programs. Jenny Quijada, the Trinity Center’s Executive Program Assistant, has been our contact at the organization. She said this about our partnership: “We at Trinity Center are so grateful for the involvement
