MATCHING STAIR NOSING, CHARACTER GRADE, ICONIC COLLECTION
Blending the old with the new - nestled in this historic North American neighborhood, this residence stands as a harmonious blend of tradition and new form.
Conceptualized by Dylan O’Keefe and Haley Firoenza of the O’Keefe-Fiorenza Design Group, the home is a narrative in stone and wood—a structure that feels at once ancient and avant-garde.
“We chose to go with wood floors, specifically chevron throughout, as we wanted to blend warmth with the historic feel that chevron wood floors provide. The North American white oak chevron provided a level of detail and interest, while setting the tone for the entire home. At the end of the day, the quality, look, and feel of Northern Wide Plank, made it the perfect fit.”
Drawing inspiration from the timeless limestone gable-roofed buildings of the Cotswolds, the design pays homage to history while expressing a bold contemporary vision.
The home’s architecture is a dialogue between two distinct stone-clad forms, linked by a luminous glass passage. This intentional juxtaposition suggests a story of evolution, as if two independent structures, steeped in heritage, were united by a modern instrumentality. The limestone cladding extends into the connection, creating a seamless continuity that roots the addition firmly within the architectural language of the residence. Smooth limestone headers and sills frame the transitions, offering a quiet elegance that underscores the home’s individuality.

The flooring, a masterpiece in its own right, is Northern Wide Plank’s Laguna white oak 178mm (7”) wide plank and 102mm (4”) wide chevron flooring. Its refined yet natural appeal grounds the interiors, imparting an atmosphere of a lived-in sophistication. The organic tones of the wood set the palette for the home, echoing the historic charm of chevron patterns while aligning seamlessly with the modern design ethos.
At the heart of the design lies a sunlit courtyard, a verdant oasis that breathes foliage and life into the home. Every room radiates from this central feature, its openness a nod to European courtyard homes, yet executed with a North American sensibility.
Inside, the timber-framed indoor pool room stands as a sanctuary of craftsmanship. Rustic beams rise to meet the ceiling, their texture offset by the sleek expanses of glass and water.
This timeless Architecture Marvel is more than a residence; it is a tapestry woven from the threads of history, innovation, and artistry. Each detail, from the limestone rubble to the carefully selected hardwood flooring, reflects a commitment to beauty and craftsmanship. It is a home that belongs to its time and place yet transcends them both—a timeless landmark.

PRODUCT / LAGUNA WHITE OAK, 229MM (9”) WIDE PLANK, + MATCHING STAIR TREADS, NOSING AND FLOOR VENTS, CHARACTER GRADE, ICONIC COLLECTION
Nestled in a remote region of Ontario stands a contemporary masterpiece with a charmingly medieval soul. For the homeowners, a modern interpretation of their castle in the woods.
Located a short drive from the Georgian Bay islands, the homeowners imagined a castle in the woods. Their vision materialized into a home that combines elegance and strength. With its impressive stone-clad façade, it is not hard to imagine a royal lineage.
Inside, expansive windows allow natural light to glint and dapple across its bright, airy interior spaces, highlighted by a dramatic floating staircase. Featuring breathtaking views that allow nature to mingle with the living area, the modern interpretation exudes warmth and sophistication, dappled with luxury finishes.
The choice of flooring was central to bringing the vision to life. To complement the clean interior design, the homeowners sought hardwoods that could lend a sense of warmth and character to each space. Northern Wide Plank’s Laguna North
American white oak engineered wide planks, with their natural imperfections and sun-washed palette, aligned seamlessly with their aesthetic.
“We looked at a few different hardwood flooring manufacturers, but nothing compared to the organic look and quality that Northern Wide Plank embodied” explained the homeowners. The fact that the planks are free from harsh chemicals is important to us. We love how Northern Wide Plank floors combine natural aesthetics with practicality. The ability to re-oil our floors to keep them looking fresh, effortlessly removing stains, and the ability to spot repair gives us peace of mind and ensures our home always looks its best.”

The project was a true labour of love for the homeowners who also served as site supervisors. By maintaining a hands-on approach throughout, their vision was executed down to the last detail. For the flooring, it was a significant benefit being able to share their ideas by working directly with the manufacturer. “We were incredibly happy with the entire team at Northern Wide Plank. The service from the very beginning to post-purchase support has been excellent.”
The result is a getaway where family and friends are invited to commune with nature. For the owners, it is not simply a home. It is a modern castle —a refuge from daily life. A place where elevated design, artful simplicity, and flawless craftsmanship combine to create an inspired sanctuary in the woods.

TIMELESS REFINEMENT
PRODUCT / STONEHAM EUROPEAN OAK, 180MM (7-1/8”) AND 260MM (10-1/4”)
WIDE PLANK & HERRINGBONE FLOORING, CHARACTER GRADE, WIXOM COLLECTION
This ambitious residence showcases Stoneham European oak planks, in both 180mm and 260mm widths, with an impeccable herringbone pattern unifying the entire space.
Upon entering the home, the flooring makes an immediate statement. The natural tones of Stoneham flooring evoke a sense of organic luxury, with its distressed surface catching the light from large windows.
What may be surprising to some, is the homeowners built this home themselves. “I have been showing homes for over 20 years now, encountering and observing countless designs and architectural styles. Each detail reflects the inspiration drawn from a diversity of homes - classic sophistication paired with
some of our own innovative, personal touches.”
From the foyer, where the herringbone pattern welcomes guests with an intense and immediate sense of refinement, to the living and dining area. The natural light streaming through the oversized windows, creates an ambiance that feels both airy and inviting – a testament to the transformative power of thoughtfully curated design.
The kitchen and common areas highlight how function meets form. Beyond the next level look and feel, the oversized island grants an independent casual dining experience, extra storage, along with additional workspace.
In a tranquil residence, the elegance of Northern Wide Plank’s Stoneham design takes center stage, transforming each room into a harmonious blend of refinement and warmth.

BEAUTY ON THE BAY
PRODUCT / DOVER EUROPEAN OAK, 220MM
WIDE PLANK, + MATCHING STAIR TREADS AND NOSING, CHARACTER GRADE, WIXOM COLLECTION
(8-5/8”)
Perched on the rugged shores of Georgian Bay, a private island retreat stands as a seamless blend of modern architecture and natural beauty. This 4,100 squarefoot Scandinavian modern home exemplifies the pinnacle of architectural and design synergy, brought to life by a team of renowned professionals. The interior design, masterfully envisioned by Stephanie Redmond of SR/M Design Inc., complements the architectural design brilliance of Brad Abbott from Abbott Design Ltd., with every detail executed to perfection by the skilled craftsmanship of Mazenga North. More than just a seasonal escape, this property is a masterclass in seamlessly integrating home design with the surrounding landscape.
At the heart of this home is Northern Wide Plank’s 8-5/8” (220mm) Dover European Oak flooring, which plays a central role in bringing the interior vision to life. Set against the backdrop of the 30,000 Islands, the home is surrounded by windswept white pines and striking granite outcroppings, features that famously inspired Canada’s Group of Seven painters. For the homeowners, an entrepreneurial couple with a passion for nature and travel, the island property holds deep sentimental value. Originally owned by one of the homeowners’ parents, who first built a modest Pan-Abode cottage on the site in the 1960s, the couple decided to expand the space and create a modern sanctuary that would celebrate the island’s natural surroundings.
Inside, the Scandinavian-inspired design is clean and minimal, emphasizing simplicity and a connection to nature. Northern Wide Plank’s Dover European Oak flooring was carefully selected to enhance this aesthetic. The light, washed tones of Dover not only provide warmth to the space but also echo the driftwood that washes ashore on the island, creating a sense of harmony between the indoor and outdoor environments.
Throughout the home, the wide planks of Dover flooring ground the design. In the living room, which overlooks the stunning forest, the subtle distressing of the wood complements the white-paneled walls and raw wood furniture, while the black metal-framed windows allow natural light to pour in, further enhancing the organic feel of the space.
One of the most striking features of the home is the floating staircase, where Dover nosing provides a seamless transition between the floors. This thoughtful detail allows the planks to carry through the entire home, creating continuity and flow.
The home’s design is centered around maximizing views of Georgian Bay and the surrounding wilderness. Expansive windows wrap around corners and stretch from floor to ceiling, creating the sensation of being immersed in nature.
Beyond the visual appeal, the homeowners were drawn to Northern Wide Plank’s commitment to craftsmanship and quality. The durable, prefinished hardwax oil Dover flooring was an ideal choice for a home subject to the unique challenges of island living, including fluctuating temperatures and humidity. With a low-maintenance natural finish and the ability to withstand the elements, the flooring ensures that the home remains as beautiful as the day it was built.
This beauty on Georgian Bay stands as a perfect example of how design and nature can come together in harmony—a place where the homeowners can truly feel at home amid the breathtaking beauty of Georgian Bay.
Beyond the visual appeal, the homeowners were drawn to Northern Wide Plank’s commitment to craftsmanship and quality. ALPINE RETREAT
PRODUCT / EDINBURGH EUROPEAN OAK 180MM (7-⅛”) WIDE PLANKS
+ MATCHING STAIR NOSING, CHARACTER GRADE, WIXOM COLLECTION
Tucked into the picturesque foothills of an iconic ski country, this alpine retreat is a sophisticated family getaway. With remarkable views, this chalet draws its inspiration from Canada’s rich ski culture, blending countrified charm with modern refinement to create a truly inviting space.
The chalet’s vision was to evoke the cozy ambiance of a traditional ski lodge while elevating it with contemporary touches. The result is a stunning combination of transitional millwork, modern light fixtures, and luxury upholstery. The great room, crowned by a double-height ceiling adorned with tongue-and-groove wood and beams, features a striking fireplace with custom metalwork and a sleek limestone surround—an undeniable focal point.
At the core of this retreat’s aesthetic lies timeless elegance, crafted in the form of wide plank flooring. Edinburgh wood
flooring from Northern Wide Planks Wixom Collection, made of European white oak, bestowed the desired natural warmth and unique character, playing a pivotal role in tying together the interior and exterior design. The wood’s organic texture and planed surface reflects the rugged beauty of the surrounding landscape, while its durability meets the demands of a young active family. Spanning the floors of the great room, kitchen, and bedrooms, the flooring’s rich history complements the home’s other natural elements, including stone, metal, and wood beams.
In the material selection process, quality was a non-negotiable, said designer Ria DaCosta, at Aspen & Ivy. “It was an absolute to only consider products that could stand up to the use and wear of a young family, while at the same time, bring the design vision to life. Having specified Northern Wide Plank on several projects before, we knew it was the right product to speak to the design, as well as provide the longevity we were looking for.”
Design challenges arose in making the expansive space feel both grand and warm. Strategic use of wood, including
the Edinburgh planks, played a crucial role in achieving this balance. Its visual continuity draws the eye seamlessly through the space, while its tactile appeal invites guests to relax and unwind after a day on the slopes.
The collaboration between the architect, Abbott Design, the builder, L. Patten & Sons, and the Aspen & Ivy design team, along with trusting clients, brought the vision to life with unparalleled craftsmanship.

TRADITIONAL ELEGANCE
PRODUCT / JURA GENUINE FRENCH OAK, 7” (178MM) WIDE PLANK, HERRINGBONE + MATCHING STAIR NOSING CHARACTER GRADE, TANNIC COLLECTION
Throughout this residence, a vision of British elegance and tradition come to life. Inspired by the timeless charm of London’s Mayfair district, the homeowners collaborated with designer Nazem Rose and architect Lorne Rose to create a home that balances classical sophistication with modern warmth.
At the epicenter of this residence, is Jura Genuine French Oak from Northern Wide Plank’s Tannic Collection. The 7” (178mm) wide planks, arranged in both plank and herringbone patterns, along with matching stair nosing, provide a foundation of rustic refinement. The flooring captures the essence of the project’s tenet—durable and understated yet brimming with character. It complements the home’s warm millwork, bold colours, and intricate details, such as the library’s coffered ceilings with wallpaper inserts and the billiards room’s exquisite wainscotting.
The design’s highlights include a stunning kitchen with a carefully curated colour palette, and a French oven that draws the eye. The third-floor library, a sanctuary of intellectual elegance, pairs traditional craftsmanship with unique textures. Meanwhile, the basement underwent a dramatic transformation. Excavating and underpinning were necessary to achieve the now impressive 9’2” ceilings, and the removal of a 65-year-old bomb shelter posed logistical challenges—but the result is nothing short of extraordinary.

Located in Forest Hill Village, Toronto, NRD has transformed many residential properties both locally and internationally. We offer clients a concierge-style service based on their individual needs and lifestyles. The design process begins from the conception of a project to the completion of a fully furnished and well appointed space. Once the scope of the project is determined, our finely tuned design approach provides clients with construction drawings and schedules for materials and finishes. We then work with you to transform your living space into a warm and inviting environment filled with the textures, colours and personalized items that reflect your distinctive style of living.
6 COLOURS / GENUINE RECLAIMED OAK & HEMLOCK / 102 MM - 203 MM (4” - 8”) RANDOM WIDTH PLANKS + HERRINGBONE, CHEVRON & VERSAILLES PANELS / ENGINEERED HARDWOOD CONSTRUCTION / SANDED, BRUSHED & FOUNDRY SURFACES / NATURAL HARDWAX OIL (UV CURED) FINISH / MAS CERTIFIED GREEN, DECLARE, & FSC (UPON REQUEST)
Renowned for its strength, Reclaimed Oak personifies a timeless exposure to the harsh elements of nature that are embedded in each plank. Retaining its characteristic markings, such as nicks and nail holes, Reclaimed Oak creates a stunning balance between rustic and sophisticated design, ranging from golden whiskey hues to weathered patina, only the most stunning planks are selected for our handcrafted finishing.
Dating back to the early 1800’s, Reclaimed Hemlock planks are restored from century-old barns that represented the ingenuity and integrity of the early settlers. With colouration ranging from amber to deep malt brown, hemlock’s distinct grain and wagon wheel knots amplify a naturally distressed look that radiates a warm and enduring character.

Drawing inspiration from a classic lodge feel, the homeowners meticulously selected features that evoke a sense of permanence and natural beauty. A standout design element is the incorporation of textured old world stone walls, carried both inside and out to adorn fireplaces and accent walls.
Light and bright cabinetry, luxurious lighting fixtures, and a statement range, balance the rustic elements, offering a refined, inviting ambience. Featured above, beyond the flooring is Northern Wide Plank’s Outpost genuine reclaimed oak planks creating visual interest, while complementing the dark white oak flooring.
This theme continues with soaring ceilings, and matching beams that exude craftsmanship. Adding to this ambiance, an arched stone doorway provides a subtle yet impactful statement of scale and elegance.
The home’s hardwood flooring and wall cladding, sourced from Northern Wide Plank’s Iconic and Panoramic Collections respectively, is a pivotal element in achieving the desired aesthetic. With Rainier white oak flooring, mixed in 7-, 9-, and 11-inch plank widths throughout, along with Outpost reclaimed oak planks in selected areas above, the combination of different materials and natural surfaces creates an authentic, timeless appeal.
“Northern Wide Plank flooring was highly recommended to us as the go-to for a home like ours. After extensive research and multiple showroom visits, we fell in love with its uniqueness and quality. The 6mm top surface with a hardwax oil finish truly brings out the authentic wood feel we were looking for.”
– HOMEOWNERS OF ‘A QUAINT RETREAT’ PROJECT
The homeowners said: “Northern Wide Plank flooring was highly recommended to us as the go-to for a home like ours. After extensive research and multiple showroom visits, we fell in love with its uniqueness and quality. The 6mm top surface with a hardwax oil finish truly brings out the authentic wood feel we were looking for.”
Bringing this vision to life was not without its challenges. After several setbacks, the homeowners found success with Lino Montemurri Designs, who truly understood the project’s ethos. Collaborating with Coghill Construction and Jacki McEachran
Design Services, the team converged to create a masterpiece that marries aesthetic appeal with functional living spaces.
Nestled in a tranquil lakefront town, this residence is a stunning realization of timeless design and warm hospitality. Envisioned as a welcoming retreat for family and friends, this 5,500-squarefoot lodge-style home captures a rustic charm while delivering modern comfort. Its thoughtful blend of materials, curated to reflect a serene yet enduring aesthetic, is the hallmark of this remarkable residence.
