Artistic Excellence The North Carolina Symphony (NCS) continued to enrich the lives of North Carolinians through exceptional musical experiences and engaging music education offerings this season. More than 100,000 patrons immersed themselves in live performances—featuring NCS musicians sharing the stage with renowned artists from around the world. The season’s music-making featured a blend of audience favorites and contemporary works that fostered cultural connections and built vibrant community experiences statewide.

Music Education & Statewide Service Western Residency The North Carolina Symphony, in partnership with the State of North Carolina and the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, launched our Western Residency in 2023, sharing music with over 20,000 people in 24 counties.

Programs included our flagship Education Concert for elementary students, as well as PNC Grow Up Great Music Discovery for preschoolers, music clinics for middle and high schoolers, and free Concerts in Your Community.

Freedom Celebration concerts featured music

by William Grant Still, Florence Price, and NCS Composer in Residence Dr. Anthony Kelley at Fayetteville State University and Elizabeth City State University; concerts of light classics were presented in Chapel Hill, New Bern, Jacksonville, and as part of NCS residencies in Edgecombe County and in western North Carolina.

The North Carolina Symphony brings the fundamentals of music to life through full-orchestra Education Concerts. Training and resources developed by NCS in alignment with the N.C. Department of Public Instruction are a cornerstone of NCS education programs, supporting teachers and students through musical explorations that span genre and time and share the joy of live performance.

The Anonymous Trust/Simple Gifts Fund generously supported the 2022/23 launch of the threeyear North Carolina Symphony Music Education Residency in Edgecombe County to serve over 4,000 students annually—from an Education Concert for elementary school students, to PNC Grow Up Great Music Discovery for preschoolers, to music clinics for middle and high school instrumentalists and composers.
