ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

Students are required to take short exams, known as School Centred Invigilated Tests or SCITs, in each A-level subject on a regular basis. Together with other forms of assessment, these short exams help students and teachers identify areas that need further support. This process enables students to prepare for exams through efficient and targeted study.

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

Learning at OIC doesn’t stop when lessons end. Our dedicated team members are here to provide academic guidance outside of regular class hours. They are on hand to answer your questions, help you prepare for exams, and overcome any challenges.

A BEACON FOR EDUCATION

ONE-YEAR GCSE

Our fast-track GCSE course sets our students up for success at A-level. Over the course of one year, learners study up to eight GCSE subjects and explore potential career pathways through our Supercurricular programme.

Taught by specialist teachers, our GCSE programme provides the academic challenge and individualised support our young people need to excel in their exams.

GCSE results are the first data point universities review before making an offer. Our one-year GCSE programme ensures that every student selects upto eight subjects, which allows for flexibility when choosing a university degree.

At OIC, our GCSE students benefit from small classes, specialist teachers, and the career focus of their personalised Global Strategic Pathway, all within our vibrant academic culture.

Students choose upto eight GCSEs to study. They also take courses in study skills, research skills, teamwork skills, PE and PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education).

GIVING YOU THE ADVANTAGE

CAREER PREPARATION

Demonstrating your passion for your chosen career is key when applying to the world’s top universities. At OIC, our student journey is all about discovering your passion and selecting the right course. From here, you’ll build evidence around that passion, developing a strategic approach to your overall university application.

Expert meetings and guidance from our Supercurricular department ensures students are prepared to start their A-levels and begin their university applications with a strategic advantage. Our students are grouped into specialist Career Groups:

• Healthcare and Biological Science

• Physical Science and Mathematics

• Social Science, Humanities and Commerce

• Other additional options. Within each Career Group, students receive tailored support and coaching on matters such as admissions tests and interview preparations. Through enrichment sessions and workshops led by industry experts, our students gain valuable insights into their chosen degree subject and future career plans.

BY ENGAGING IN SUPERCURRICULAR PURSUITS, YOU ARE DEVELOPING YOUR ACADEMIC AND PERSONAL EXPERIENCES BY GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND THE CONVENTIONAL CLASSROOM

SYLLABUS

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

SUPERCURRICULAR

Our trailblazing Supercurricular department develops students’ career-focused skills, preparing them for lifelong success.

At OIC, the Supercurricular department equips students for future success by deepening subject knowledge. We encourage our students to engage in diverse programmes, competitions and awards as well as clubs and societies. In this way, OIC students develop a growth mindset, building confidence and resilience as they embrace challenges and new experiences. Accompanied by our expert guidance and university counselling support, students are provided with everything they need to succeed throughout the university application process and beyond. Specialised Oxbridge mentoring is also included through our Oxford Mentor Programme and tailored pathways for students applying to overseas universities.

OXFORD MENTOR PROGRAMME

Our Oxford Mentor Programme is designed to prepare students for their chosen career and to guide them through to successful university applications. The programme is delivered by mentors who are currently undergraduate, postgraduate or doctorate students at the University of Oxford. The programme consists of aptitude test preparation required to gain entry to certain degree courses and a bridging programme to widen students’ knowledge of their chosen career path in the fields of medicine, science, economics, engineering and law.

GOODWILL AMBASSADOR PROGRAMME

Each summer, students can also participate in the Goodwill Ambassador Programme in Malaysia. Participating students gain real-life exposure to their future degree subject by shadowing doctors, scientists, dentists, lawyers, engineers and other professionals.

EXTENDED PROJECT QUALIFICATION

After the first term, students may take the Extended Project Qualification, which allows them to research a specific topic of interest beyond the A-level syllabus. The EPQ is highly recommended for students applying to top universities as it demonstrates a motivation to pursue further study in the student’s chosen subject and provides an impressive talking point in the personal statement and interviews.

NORD FAMILY COLLABORATIONS

MIT COLLABORATION

The MIT-Nord Anglia STEAM programme develops our students’ problem-solving skills through real-world challenges that get them thinking outside the box. Our global programme inspires students to look beyond individual subjects, sparking their curiosity through our hands-on interdisciplinary approach to problemsolving. Guided by the world’s leading STEAM institution, our students take part in challenges and visit MIT on a trip led by experts from the university. Our collaboration also gives our teachers the opportunity to learn from specialists in the world of STEAM, resulting in cutting-edge lessons that inspire our students in the future.

TOGETHER WE GO ABOVE AND BEYOND

SUPERCURRICULAR VS EXTRACURRICULAR

The term “extracurricular” encompasses all activities students may do outside of the classroom – sports, charity work or creative pursuits. “Supercurricular” refers to career-oriented activities such as degree-related guest lectures, work experience or competitions.

Performing well in subject exams and building extensive classroom knowledge is essential; fostering a sense of academic passion and aspiration towards university subjects and possible future careers is equally important. The term “extracurricular” is used as a broad reflection of activities outside of the classroom. On the other hand, “Supercurricular” refers to the targeted, career-oriented activities that enable students to

become motivated and independent learners. At OIC, we want to maintain a purposeful environment to nurture academic passion and self-discovery.

The Supercurricular department is guided by two underpinning principles: (1) to develop well-rounded individuals by offering opportunities to build upon personal skills and experiences; (2) to enable students to be as competitive as possible when applying to top universities. Individualised 1:1 sessions and Career Meetings are cornerstones of this mission. Students receive tailored support based on their academic discipline and goals. As a result, our students enter the university admissions process with not only strong grades but also a tangible appreciation and understanding of their future subject and career plans.

In addition to offering students a wide array of clubs and societies, we also customise innovative programmes to enhance the student experience. Examples include workshops on the growth mindset, essay writing masterclasses, networking sessions and university preparation activities.
