Greetings from the FABULOUS Greater Channel Chapter of Houston, Texas, proudly representing the South Central Region of Jack & Jill of America.

The Greater Channel Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, was established in 1994. It has grown over the years through the vision and mission of each of its past Presidents – Glenda Thibeaux (19941996), Pat Pellerin (1996-2000), Carolyn McCray (2000-2002), Debra Johnson (2002-2005), Dawana M. Lewis Scott (2005-2006), Cheryl Fleming (2006-2008), Renee Lewis (2008-2010), Barbara Pierce (20102012), Melanie Flowers (2012-2014), Paula Harris (2014-2016), Demetra Jones (2016-2018), Trela Parker (2018-2020), Stacey Frank (2020-2022) and Juantongia Calvin (2022- present).

The Greater Channel Chapter hosted Area Workday (1996), the Regional Mother’s Conference (2005), with other Houston area chapters, the National Convention (2006) and Children’s Cluster in 2013. We hosted Teen Conference in June 2017, the first on a college campus at the University of Houston.

In 2019, we celebrated 25 years of making a difference in the lives of children and families. We are proud to have members of Greater Channel that serve and have served Jack & Jill at the area, regional and national levels.

The Greater Channel Chapter Associate Group was formed under the leadership of Mattie Sharp and Barbara Auzenne in 2000.

The Greater Channel Chapter of Jack & Jill of America, Inc. looks forward to a multi-chapter celebration of Black History Month at Diamond Peak Ski Resort and the Hyatt Regency Hotel Spa & Casino in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. We are pleased to provide you with multiple updates needed to plan your trip!

This issue includes links to pay for your family’s registration, purchase lift tickets, book spa treatments, reserve shuttle transfers with your travel group, reserve a sleigh ride with your family or larger group; and, secure lunch and dinner reservations. Additional optional excursions will be included in each update.

The deadline to register is January 6, 2023. All late registrants will pay a rate of $525 per family. Please pay your family registration fee without delay. The list for the blocked room rate is filling quickly. We are counting up to a fabulous ski weekend!

SKI & SNOWBOARD LESSONS

The Child Ski Center provides a safe and fun learning environment for kids ages 3-6 of all abilities. Children have a separate learning area, private "magic carpet" Pete's Powerline surface lift and low child-to-instructor ratio of 6:1 max.

3-year-olds are accepted in private lessons only.

Group, private, and semi-private lessons are available for children 4-6 years old.

Ski & Snowboard Lessons (ages 7+) feature professional instructors, low student-to-instructor ratios, gentle slopes, and a friendly environment.

Diamond Peak caters to families with children by offering a Child Ski Center, Free Lift Tickets for children under 6, miles of groomed slopes, beginner terrain park features, and Lake Tahoe's most breathtaking view for the whole family to enjoy. Jack and Jill boasts 252 chapters nationwide, representing more than 40,000 family members. Each chapter plans annual programming activities guided under a general five point programmatic thrust: cultural awareness, educational development, health (education and advocacy), civic (legislative advocacy and service) and social/recreational areas.

Through service projects, Jack and Jill of America creates a medium of contact for children to stimulate their growth and development. Through lobbying, educational programming, dissemination of education materials, and the organization of community and charitable events, Jack and Jill has promoted the public awareness and interests of children including child development, child growth, child quality of life, child care and the promotion of children’s rights.
