Weareaschoolthatpridesitselfontheambitiouseducationwedeliver.Inpart,thisispossibleduetothe inspiration we draw from our mother school, NLCS UK and the important bond that has developed betweenthetwoinstitutions.

We are fortunate that our relationship is genuine and close We have benefited greatly from NLCS UK carryingoutregularinspectionsandmonitoringvisitsofourschool,aswellasinterviewingandtraining allournewstaffatNLCSUK.

Eachweek,eachclassteacherwillselectachildfromtheirclasstobetheClassCaptain(ReceptiontoYear 4).Thischildwillreceiveabadgefortheweekaswellasacertificateandtheirphotowillbedisplayedon our superstars board. The Class Captain can be selected for a range of reasons such as being a good friend, excellent effort, excellent achievement, improvements in behaviour and attitude and using our Learning Habits. Thisensuresthateachnewstudenthasanamedstudenttosupporthisorherinductionintotheschool. 10.8 ANTI-BULLYING POLICY

All members of the NLCS Jeju community are valued as individualsandhavetherighttofeelsafeand happywithintheschoolenvironment NLCSJejuhasanAnti-Bullyingpolicywhichisfullycommittedto both preventing bullyinginthefirstplaceandalsotorobustandeffectiveactionswhenitisdiscovered bullyinghasoccurred Afullcopyofthispolicyisavailabletoparentsonthewebsiteoronrequesttothe school.

NLCS Jejumaintainsaraisedawarenessamongststaffandstudentsofanyvulnerableindividualwhois foundtohavelowself-esteemandwhoisexcludedorhumiliatedbyothers.Further,theschoolpromotes anethoswhichdeploresanyonebeing left out, being unsupported or being humiliated. NLCS Jeju will actively involve any of all of the following parties: the student of concern (both victim and those perpetratingthebullying),theSchoolCounsellor,theAVP-Pastoralcare,therelevanttutorsorteachers, thestudentʼsownpeergroupandifnecessarytheHeadofJuniorSchool

Bullyingcanbeverbal,visual,orphysical. Commonlyitcanalsoincludeexclusionfromfriendshipgroups and maytakeplaceontheinternetorsocialmedia(inoroutofschooltime).Thiscalledcyber-bullying andisspecificallyreferredtoinasub-sectionbelow.

Weaskparentstoplayapositiveroleinhelpingidentifyiftheirchildisthevictimofbullying. Wealsoask that parents take a responsible approach which is aligned to the schoolʼs anti-bullying policy. In particular, we specifically request that parents do not contact other parents directly but channel their concerns and or other communications through the school and work with the school to a solution Parentsshouldactivelyremindchildrenthattheyhavearighttofeelsafeandvaluedandtheschoolcan andwill(withthestudentconsent)dealwithanydifficultsituation.

Parents shouldremindtheirchildtousetheinternetcarefullyandresponsibly,inparticularnotsharing passwords, not retaliating, but reporting issues. They should be reminded to think carefully before sendinganymessagethatmayhaveanegativeconnotation. As a parent please be alert to your child beingupsetafterusingtheinternetormobilephone.Thismightinvolvesubtlecommentsorchangesin relationshipswithfriends

11.2 ACADEMIC ENGLISH DEVELOPMENT

Learning in English when it is an additional language can sometimes bedifficult.Aspartoftherobust support putinplaceatNLCSJeju,Englishlanguagespecialistsworkwithstudentstoprovidehighlevel and individually targeted support to ensure all children make their expected progress towards the required levels of fluency in English With a focus on in-classsupport,childrencancontinuetobenefit from an exceptional British education in their own classrooms Some support will also take place in out-of-class sessions where students engage with the same material asthemainclassbutinasmaller group or individuallyinordertoacceleratetheirEnglishlanguageproficiency.Parentswillbeadvisedif anyadditionalEnglishlanguagesupportisneededfortheirchild.

11.3 INCLUSION

Our Inclusion Teachers are available to work with all students and they will regularly supportabroad rangeofstudentsinanumberofways Theywillworkwithchildrenonaone-to-onebasisinlessontimeif itisfeltthatachildneedsextrahelptoaccessthecurriculumorlearningmethodsrequiredinasubject area, or they might work with a small group of students to support their academic,personalorsocial development. In either instance, the Inclusion Teachers work strategically with classroom teachers, Heads of Department and School Leaders to ensure that any interventions or support are in the best interestsofeachstudent,andin-keepingwithbestpracticeineducationalprovision.

13 JUNIOR BOARDING

The Junior Boarding provision aims to provide a ʻhome from homeʼ for our junior boarders residing within two specifically selected Senior Boarding Homes. It is a wonderful and exciting opportunityfor children from Year 4 to 6 to experience the full life of the school; access the facilities; take part in an extensive programme of enrichment activities, and receive the full spectrumofpastoralcareforwhich NLCS is known across the world Junior Boarding is entering its fifth year and has the continued experienceofmanyjuniorboardingstaff ThisensuresthattheJuniorboardingstudentsgetthebestof bothworlds.

14 MEDICAL CENTRE

TheMedicalCentreissituatedwithintherowofboardinghomes.Itisstaffed24hoursaday.Wehavea medical room in the First School building that is staffed by a Head Nurse, Ms. Jeon during Break and Lunchtimes.

Pleasealwayscontacttherelevantclassteacherortutor,aswellastheMedicalCentre,toinformthemof any changes or developmentsinthehealthormedicalrequirementsofyourchild Thisiscrucialsoall childrenareprotectedandsupportedatalltimes.

SPECIALMEDICALDIETANDALLERGIES

Special medicaldietprogrammeslinkedtomedicalconditionssuchasdiabetescanbeimplementedin liaison with the catering company QuadraDiningServices.Anyfoodallergyshouldbeclearlystatedon the Student Information Form which parents submit prior to their child entering the school. Staff are trainedinanaphylaxismanagementbyMedicalCentrestaffandstudentswhocarryanepipenareclearly laidoutforappropriatestaffincaseofanemergency.

RECORDSANDINFORMATION

OnentrytotheSchool,Parents/GuardianscompleteaStudentInformation/AcceptanceForm Thisseeks information regarding the studentʼs Medical History, any current medical issues, vaccinations and permission for selected over-the-counter medications to be administered whilst atschoolifnecessary. Consentfortreatmentwithsimpleremediesin a first aid or emergency situation is also obtained. All informationisheldandusedinaccordancewithstrictdataprotectionprocedures.Medicalinformationis keptforeachchildintheMedicalCentre. Accesstothisislimitedtotherelevantstaff.Itisveryimportant thatyourcontactdetailsonouriSAMSdatabasearecorrectforthispurpose.Youcanamendthesedetails throughtheiSAMSParentPortal

AllvisitstotheMedicalCentrearelogged Thisrecordsthedate,timeandnatureoftheconditionaswell as any treatment resulting. This information may be made available to outside agencies in terms of medication administered or referrals. When new conditions, illnesses or any medical problem arises which may affect a studentʼs ability to access the curriculum, this is communicated to all staff. All illnesses/injurieswillbeassessedandcommunicationmadewithhomeifthenursefeelsappropriate.

IMMUNISATIONS

It is the responsibility of parents to ensure that their child is fully up to date for all immunisations, includingtravelvaccinationsforschooltrips.

SPORTANDPHYSICALEDUCATION

Teachingstaffwillassumefitnessforparticipationifastudentisinschoolunlesstheyareincapacitated byphysicalinjuryorhaveasigneddoctorʼsnote,whichprohibitstakingpart. Colds,coughs,andminor ailmentswillnotbeacceptedasreasonsforwithdrawalfromsuchlessons.

Parentsareexpectedtokeeptheirchildoffschooliftheyareunwell.Keepingthemathomewillhelpto speeduptherecoveryandalsoreducestheriskofinfectiontotheotherchildren.

MANAGEMENTOFFLUANDOTHEREPIDEMICS/PANDEMICS

Whenthereisanoutbreakofaninfectiousdisease,suchasinfluenza,COVID-19etc, Wefollowguidelines and regulations fromtheKCDC(KoreaCentersforDiseaseControlandPrevention)andthePoEonJeju. The Medical Centre is involved in testing and monitoring and can offer advice on all precautions and requirements.

Whenthereisanoutbreakofaninfectiousdisease,suchasinfluenza,themedicalcentre,administrative staffandteacherswillworktogethertominimisethespreadoftheillness.TheSchoolwillfollowadvice onproceduresandprotocolsgivenbytheKoreanCentresforDiseaseControlandPrevention

Junior School students from Reception to Year 4 will be accompanied to the Medical Centre by an adult/memberofstaff. Year5and6studentsareallowedtovisittheMedicalCentrewithafriendhaving receivedapermissionnotefromamemberofstaff.

THEPROCEDUREFORPRESCRIPTIVE

● A parent/guardianshouldprovideinformationinadvanceviaemailtotheirchildʼsclassteacher andthenurseoffice(nurse@nlcsjeju.kr).

● PrescriptiondrugsmustbehandedinattheMedicalCentrebyaparent/guardian,oraddedtoa child's bag, clearly labelled (see below) and with an advanced email (as above), Teachers, learningassistantsormedicalstaffcanthenensurethemedicineisstoredsafelyandcorrectly

● Prescription drugs mustbeproperlylabelledwiththestudent'snameandclass,detailsofwhat the medicine is, the size of the dose, the time it should be taken, and if it should be kept refrigeratedornot

● Children should not bring medicinetoschoolandtakeitwithoutadultknowledge,forexample medicineshouldnotbestoredinchildrenʼslunchboxesorintheirpockets.

● Aparent/guardianshouldprovidedetailsofanychangestotheprescriptionorsupportrequired.

● Aparent/guardianshouldkeeptheirchildathomewhens/heisunwell.

WITHDRAWINGFROMSCHOOL

We encourage all parentstospeaktotheirchildʼstutor/classteacheroranothermemberofstaffbefore making the decision to withdraw their child from NLCS Jeju, as this will allow us the opportunity to discussthereasonsfurther.

Onceadecisionhasbeenmade,parentsmustcompletetheʻWithdrawalFormʼontheParentPortal.This istheonlymannerinwhichformalwithdrawalnotificationwillbeconsidered

AspertheTermsandConditions,notificationofwithdrawalshouldbesubmittedwithatleastoneterms notice.Failuretodosowillresultintheschoolretainingthestudent'sacceptancedepositinlieuofnotice.

TRANSFERRINGFROMBOARDINGTODAY
