I’m really going to miss this home. Four years ago, we started Hyeopjae Boarding Home and what a rewarding journey it has been. So many memories, growth, and good times with all the boys.
Back then, we set out to do something different. We changed the way boarding worked at NLCS, bringing boys from different Houses together to form one Hyeopjae family. What started as a new approach to boarding soon grew into something special: a homely, friendly, caring, and passionate community. Over the years, we’ve built a strong sense of unity and pride, and I’m proud of what we have achieved as a Boarding Home. Hyeopjae has become a place where boys have thrived, and created lasting memories.The successes we’ve had over the years is a reflection of the spirit we built together. There are so many stories to tell and so many memories to cherish with staff like Mr. Neiland, Mr. Cronin, Mr. Chun, and Mr. Moore; with our grads, Mr. Cooney and Mr. J. Moore, our Matron, and of course, with all the Hyeopjae boys who made this place what it is.
Now, as we look ahead to the next venture inAewol, I’m excited to bring a bit of that Hyeopjae spirit with us and start something new, inspired by everything we created here. We’ve already brought the boys from Hyeopjae and Aewol together, and we’ll be working side by side to make this next venture not just a success, but a true home for all. The Hyeopjae spirit lives on, just in a new home, with a new name, and even more memories waiting to be made.

“Last week, everyone in Hyeopjae headed to the sports hall to play capture the flag. Even Fred came along, despite having a leg injury.At first, no one really seemed interested in playing, we were all doing our own thing, but then we put our phones down on the bench and just started running around the court for half an hour. It was one of those moments that felt like a classicYear 9 PE lesson, when we were all in it together, living the moment, not thinking about online lessons or games. I think these kinds of house activities, are what make the best memories.The big termly trips to Hyeopjae Beach definitely boost our house spirits, but it’s the smaller moments like this we will remember and cherish as a group, even when we move to Halla next year.”

I'm Dokyoung Kwon, who joined as aY7 when Hyeopjae was founded and is now inY10. I was just a quiet, nervous student trying to find my place. Now, as a Year 10 student, hearing that our house will be closing next year feels like something I never expected. This place has been more than just a building to sleep and study in. It’s been my home away from home, filled with people who’ve become like family. I still remember my first night here, unpacking nervously, feeling unsure, yet slowly comforted by the welcoming voices ofY11s and Mr. Crebier. Those early days were filled with awkward introductions, late night whispers after lights out, and learning the routines that are now familiar. Over the years, I’ve laughed, matured, and even cried within this house. Some of my favourite memories include our trip to Hyeopjae beach - the fresh ocean air, cool water, and feeling of freedom. I’ve loved every sports hall activity, where they were full of young energy.And of course, I’ll never forget Battle of the Beaches, the energy of competing side by side with other boarding houses, which will be my next destination.

These moments were not only fun but also helped shape who I am.They taught me about friendship, leadership, resilience, and being part of something bigger than myself. It wasn't just the building that made this place special, it was the people and the sense of belonging.
To everyone who has been a part of this Hyeopjae boarding home, thank you.Thank you for the support, the challenges, and the memories. I want to give a big thank you to Mr. Crebier, Mr. Neiland, Mr. Cronin, Mr. Chun, Mr. Moore, Matron, and the many grads who have supported, guided, and inspired me along the way. I will always be proud to say I was a part of this boarding home, and even though the home may close, the spirit we shared will always remain.

I've been staying in Hyeopjae boarding house for over 2 years and have had an invaluable time here. When I joined this boarding house, I didn't know that joining this boarding community would not only help me focus on studying but also how to create great friendships with lots of friends. Especially on weekends, I usually played football on the astroturf or PS5 on the first floor of our boarding house, and each of the memories taught me a lot of different values. One of the most memorable moments for me was when I received the Hyeopjae Spirit Value ChampionAward, and it felt amazing when I received it.Also, I always loved the trip to Hyeopjae Beach. It is always a wonderful beach and our year group likes to make something using the sand on the coast. I think I will not forget those valuable memories in the Hyeopjae boarding house I've built for 2 years with my friends and teachers forever.
