Today the Katy Heritage Society maintains this historic site, as well as the Katy Heritage Park, featuring three historic homes, the Humble Mess Hall, the Old Post Office, the tool shed/wash house and Tradition Bank Bandstand. The Katy Heritage Society works to preserve the historic places that remind us of Katy’s beginnings. Choosing an All-Star Ride by Sarah Warburton
Fort Bend athletes Alexis and Sara Aguilar (Graduates of Travis High School), twin daughters of Ray and Diana Aguilar, are always on the go. After they received a softball scholarship, they needed the perfect vehicle to get them to Kilgore College in northeast Texas. Sara says, “My dad works at Classic Chevy, so he occasionally brought a car home for a test drive. One week he said, “Look, this is the Equinox. It gets great gas mileage... try it out!” We liked it, but we didn’t think anything else about it. Another night we were all going out to dinner and Dad said, “So, who wants to drive?” But he always drives, so Alexis and I said, “No thanks.” Then he said, “But that Equinox LT in the driveway is your car.” That’s when I said, “I’ll drive!” “We had originally been thinking about a Cruze, but we needed something that could handle all our gear. When we moved into school, we drove ourselves, all our softball gear, microwave, and all our boxes in our new Equinox. We were both kinda amazed it all fit! Mom and Dad were on standby in case we needed them to
bring anything that couldn’t make the first trip...but we did it all in one go. It was a smooth ride from here to the Longview area. Dad was right about the gas mileage, too! We can make the 3.5 hour drive to school on half a tank...plus he says the Equinox is really safe.” “A lot of people at school don’t have a car, so Alexis and I can fit plenty of people in ours for trips to Walmart or out to eat. It’s the perfect ride for us!” Proud papa Ray Aguilar says, “It doesn’t matter what age or gender you are, Classic treats everyone with respect. hen Elaine Dennis found a picture of the “bathroom of her dreams,” the first thing she did was show it to her husband, Mark. Then she started looking for a local designer who could make her dream a reality. She says, “Grand Windows and Interiors was recommended to us by friends. Dr. Faisal Khan at Grand Parkway Pediatric Dental says, “Parents spend a lot of energy concentrating on their children’s medical health, and rightly so. But it’s just as important to take care of those little pearly whites. This month I’d like to share a couple of my top tips for new parents.” But my child is too young! “Typically you’ll see the first tooth begin to erupt by six to nine months of age,” says Dr. Khan, “and most children will have at least a couple of teeth by age one. With the eruption of teeth, one of the first steps you can take toward better oral health is to switch your child from a bottle to a sippy cup. When children sleep or walk around with a bottle in their mouth, sugar coats their teeth for longer periods of time, causing teeth to decay more quickly. And like the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, I also recommend to parents to their bring their kids in for their first checkup around one year of age. There’s rarely anything wrong, but it’s a great time to familiarize children with our environment...alleviating a lot of what I call ‘crazy screaming dentistry!’
