About Us Throughout Neighborhood House’s 127-year history, it has adapted to meet the needs of the community. What started out as a center for immigrant women has grown into an organization with 5 program areas that serves thousands of individuals a year, giving them the resources they need to be successful through all life stages.

Programs MEALS ON WHEELS Meals On Wheels provides a nutritious meal for people who are unable to prepare their own meal. They also provide a sense of security and consistency for their clients as the drivers are often the only people they see on a regular basis. CRITTERS MEALS ON WHEELS Neighborhood House knows the important role the pet serves in the life of the homebound senior who lives alone. Through this program, participants are able to eat their lunch and we provide pet food for their animal. FOOD PANTRY AND SUNDAY MEALS With the help of 14 local churches and organizations, families can come to Neighborhood House every Sunday for a meal. We also host a pantry twice a month where we distribute approximately $5,000 worth of food to our clients. YOUTH SERVICES This program offers educational support and fun activities for children in our community. They also provide a safe environment and a hot meal every day to the students in our after school program. ADULT EDUCATION This program offers GED classes, adult basic education classes and one-on-one tutoring; classes in budgeting, building credit and workplace skills; Northstar certification in computer basics; and employment counseling.
FUNDRAISING EVENTS Food Fight : February 29th, 2024 This Food Network-inspired event begins with a live auction including items from local restaurants and sponsors. Once the battle begins, the chefs have 45 minutes to make an entrée with a bag of secret ingredients. Food Fight proceeds help support our meal programs, including Meals on Wheels, Critters Meals on Wheels, After School Meals, and Summer Meals for Kids. 400 people attend Food Fight Annually Several local restaurants and chefs participate annually
RAGBRAI : July 20th - 27th, 2024 Our team is excited to participate in the 51st Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) again this year. There are so many ways to participate. You can pedal along with our team for the week-long ride, join us for a day, or sponsor a rider
(Neighborhood) House Party Neighborhood House is focusing on growth this year. Therefore, we are working on revamping our fall event to create more of an impact for our donors and clients. We have decided to call it the (Neighborhood) House Party, but would love additional feedback from all stakeholders, including sponsors, about what fundraising experiences they would like to be considered.
