Homeless Veteran Housed Veteran Receives Furniture Services (NEW HAVEN, Conn.) – Elizabeth** was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1988. After losing her housing 2013, Elizabeth found herself living on the streets and bouncing from couch to couch. Elizabeth secured stable housing through the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program, within two weeks of enrollment into the program. Elizabeth received furniture from New Reach’s The Furniture Co-Op to furnish her home. “Thanks to Scott [her case manager] SSVF, and New Reach,” Elizabeth stated, “I was able to get back on my feet and feel like myself again. Sometimes we all need a helping hand.” Elizabeth is now focusing on her education and securing a job. The Furniture Co-Op is holding an Open House, Wednesday, October 8th at 9am located at 14 Gilbert Street, West Haven, Conn. Supportive Services for Veteran Families Program is a partnership with Alpha Community Services, Shelter for the Homeless, Supportive Housing Works, Workforce Alliance, and The WorkPlace. **Client name changed for anonymity.

New Reach Inc. was established in 1990 to provide emergency shelter for families, and is working in the New Haven area to address the housing and support service needs of women with children. New Reach provides services to families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
