The Butterfly Effect The Butterfly Effect

Lying on the cold wooden floor, I contemplate, “Was this worth waking up at 4AM?” Most may disagree, but for me, my immediate answer would be “Most definitely.” Key club marathon volunteering for AMPT and Run Project has always been extremely exhausting to me. However, I never fail to enjoy my time there. I could be standing there in the heat for HOURS, simply holding a basket of tickets; or, I could be cutting tens of watermelons. Whatever the case may be, there is one factor that will forever ensure my satisfaction towards the event: being a Good Samaritan. I know it may sound corny, but for the whole timeline of my life, I have always been very passionate about helping others and making an impact in the world. Although it might not seem much, something as little as a little cheer, pushing marathon runners to complete their lap, could change the whole trajectory of their lives. The following day, they could have volunteered at another marathon to give others that same feeling of motivation and positivity. Who knows? They might even become a passionate and active volunteer themself one day. Regardless, it doesn't hurt to bring positivity and kindness into the world. A rock being kicked on the pavement could cause a car tire to be busted, leading to a whole traffic jam, resulting in a huge, unexpected impact. That is called the Butterfly Effect. This idea gives me the will and encouragement to push forward and perform my simple, yet impactful, acts of kindness, such as volunteering, potentially impacting a person's life. What I also believe is beautiful, is how the marathons are created for awareness and support of diseases and conditions like Alzheimer’s or Leukemia, giving me more of a reason to volunteer. So even if I have to pull an all-nighter, even if the volunteer coordinators can be a little aggravating, I will never be ungrateful for the opportunity to help.

Jar Full of Stars Jar Full of Stars

I’ve folded roughly 993 paper stars in the past few years. They’re stored in a glass jar shaped like a star, with each one varying in size and pattern that represents my wish. After years of folding stars, I’ve chosen to dedicate my thousandth star, and my first wish to Key Club. “California Girls” is playing from the Heart Walk stage. Instead of heading straight to the volunteer tent like everyone else would, the members are dancing, waving balloons and fans to the beat, fully immersed in the momen As an officer, you might think about telling them to get moving, but as a member, these first-time experiences are all about savoring every second. During my sophomore year, I found myself fully enjoying the events my officers had organized. Now, as a junior and an officer, I look back on those moments with appreciation and hope to use them as inspiration to create equally meaningful experiences for others. I’ve come to realize that each star I fold holds a piece of my thoughts, hopes, and efforts that I’ve collected throughout my time in Key Club. With every fold, I reflect on the experiences and people that have shaped my passion these past two years. Some stars carry the weight of challenging days full of strength to push forward, while others are light with the joy of moments shared with friends. In this way, the jar of stars becomes not only a collection of wishes but a reason to lead and serve.

Once I’ve finished folding 1,000 paper stars, I’ll wish for Key Club to shine brightly like a sky full of stars for years to come, allowing everyone to experience the true meaning of being part of North Garland Key Club.

Paper Responsibility Paper Responsibility

Who knew how much power and responsibility a piece of paper could hold. From government documents, love letters, rejection letters, acceptance letters, dollar bills and more, paper has the ability to determine one’s life within the world and how their day goes with something as simple as a compliment note or a brand new job offer that ould change their life. As the date of November st comes closer and closer everyday, the membership applications and dollar bills rack up n my workplace like a never ending mountain and I think to myself how it's just a bunch of apers that hold no value that need to be leared out soon but then I slowly remember how each piece of paper is someone, someone who wants to volunteer, and especially, someone who wants to join our Key Club. I think of the memories I was able to create from fireworks at night. cold walks to venues, hot sweaty walks to the dart, and the friends and connections that I created because of that single piece of paper I turned in a year ago and I remember that these pieces of papers aren’t just pieces of paper, but an application to join an amazing club full of fun events, amazing people, great opportunities and more. So with all these thoughts in mind, I finally have the drive and motivation to go through all the applications and submit them to make each and every person who submitted an application, a happy volunteer who's created new lasting friendships and memories. Although counting every dollar bill and deciphering everyone’s ugly handwriting is hard and a boring grueling task at the end of the day it's worth it if I'm the one that helps them to become a part of the North Garland Key Club and leave a lasting impression for their HighSchool life.

CCOMMUNITY OMMUNITY

By: JUSTIN NGUYEN

Key Club is a club worth joining. At the beginning of my freshman school year, I wanted to find a way or an opportunity to gain a lot of service and volunteer hours. Although I did gain a lot of hours, what I really benefited from were the friends and memories I made along the way. Not only did it feel good to help others, it helped me connect more with the outside world. Instead of being on my computer or phone all the time, I went out to provide help for others and the community. Activities like picking up trash, helping set up tents for events, and packing lunches for starving children or the homeless are just a few of the many events that I attended. All of these activities that I participated in helped me become a more productive person and, generally, a better person. This club helped my relationships with new friends and current friends to become tighter and grow. I was bummed to find out that an upcoming event, Dallas Zoo Lights, got canceled due to the rain. Every event opportunity matters to me because it is another opportunity to help the community and create more memories. To me and many others, the Light the Night event was an unforgettable event. Although we were volunteering and providing service, we had a lot of fun. From eating at the food trucks to walking the marathon, this event had a lot of memories waiting to be created. Nearing the end of the event, there were fireworks, and it was very exciting. This event was surely one to remember. Yes, Key Club is a club that gives many opportunities for service hours, but it is also a place where memories are created.
