Question
What do you feel is the role of the Secretary serving on the Executive Committee of the APTA New York?

STATEMENT:
Having served as Member-at-Large on the Executive Committee over the last year, I have been able to see first-hand the role that each member of the Executive Committee has in leading our Chapter and working to continually move the profession forward. It is important that the Secretary, like all members of the Executive Committee, actively participate in discussions and decision making that impact the administrative functioning of the Chapter as well as the membership.
In addition, the Secretary is responsible to document and report on all meetings of the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors. The Secretary needs to be able to synthesize information gathered from these meetings to produce a timely and accurate report for the members.
These are skills that I have developed not only as interim Secretary for the Finger Lakes District, but also in my current role as Director of Rehab Services, where I have had to serve as scribe for incident command situations and other management meetings.

I have been honored to serve as Member-at-Large over the past year. This experience has reinforced my commitment to the Chapter and my interest in being Secretary. I am confident my skills, background and commitment the Chapter and its membership would be an asset to the Executive Committee. Thank you for considering me for the position of Secretary.
Question
What Methods would you utilize to encourage members to run for open positions with the Chapter?
STATEMENT:
I am humbled to be nominated for the Nominating Committee of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) New York Chapter. I have been a member of the APTA New York Chapter for the best past 4 years, though I was a student member in years prior to this.
The methods I would use to encourage Chapter members to run for open positions have been informed and refined through ten years of clinical practice at NYU Rusk Rehabilitation and a year as an Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy at St. John’s University. Everyone in our profession is a stakeholder in the betterment of outcomes and processes sought after by the American Physical Therapy Association, and thus should be informed of the power of their individual voices within the collective objectives of the APTA New York Chapter. If elected to the Nominating Committee, I would strive to promote Chapter members to challenge themselves to increase the scope of their professional involvement, as well as identify solutions to barriers to running for open positions. Part of my method to achieve this goal is through consistent presence of voice and engagement with communities important to and involving our profession’s future.
