On February 8th, the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of APTA New York hosted an informational town hall style meeting open to members and nonmember guests. I am hopeful this will be the first of many interactive meetings to be held this year as a means to better interact and engage our community.
Our work in the public policy arena in the new year recognizes changes to committee chair appointments in Albany which may impact pending APTA New York legislative and legislature's efforts. In response to these changes APTA New York, with assistance from our lobbying firm, will strive to inform new committee leadership about our profession and educate them on the wants of our membership to help advance our profession. The Public Policy committee and chapter staff are organizing for Lobby Day April 26th, 2023.
I strongly encourage everyone interested in attending to register early, which will allow for better planning, and improved efficiency of volunteers to be able to provide attendees with the necessary information including updates and talking points on upcoming bills. If you have never been involved in speaking with your representative this is an opportunity to speak to them as a person, and as a representative of the field of Physical Therapy, to exhibit how this career moves you by helping to get others moving, to show our value as a profession in meeting the needs of society and to demonstrate our willingness to be part of the healthcare solution in New York All members are encouraged to attend. Public Policy committee and office staff will assist with pairing lobby day novices with experienced lobby day therapists. I implore you to come out, speak up and help make a difference in our profession. I am looking forward to seeing you there.
