A LETTER FROM OUR PRESIDENT
I hope for all of you the holiday season has brought the joy and comfort of family and friends as you celebrated the season and welcomed a new year. The end of the holiday season and the beginning of a new year allows for the opportunity to be reminiscent and thankful for a year that has passed while eagerly anticipating a fresh start, often coupled with a resolution or two that may be long forgotten before the winter thaw.
This year APTA New York ushered in the New Year by setting the course for the new year in pursuit of strengthening our profession and our organization. Similar to other organizations this post pandemic time has been one of reflection of how we, functioned prior to the pandemic, how adaptations were made to continue operationally and how to move forward using the best of both This Insight will enable APTA New York to consolidate and conserve finances, restructure operations, and regain focus on the driving factors of the organization.
Towards the end of last year the APTA New York board of directors considered, adjusted and passed the 2023 budget developed and proposed by the treasurer and finance committee. The tremendous work that goes into the budgeting process of the organization is commendable. This year’s budget is available on the APTA New York website and establishes the foundation for which the work of the organization will proceed in the year to come Components of this year’s budget highlight both attention to fiscal responsibility to the organization and a desire to enhance connections, engagement and interaction with membership.
The first board meeting of 2023 started the new year with a demonstrated focus on strong fiscal management of the organization through a robust conversation regarding the benefits and risks of the potential sale and/or lease of the current APTA New York headquarters This opportunity presents itself as a result of adjustments to operations and APTA New York staff post-pandemic reflection which demonstrated our office staff was able to meet the needs of membership without the need for physical property. A task force is in the process of being established to determine the best course of action for the fiscal health of APTA New York while ensuring the needs of membership are met at the high standard customary to our office staff.
