A Fantastic Start to the Year!
What a fantastic start to the school year we’ve had! It’s been wonderful to see our students settling into their routines with such enthusiasm and positivity. The smooth transition back to school is a testament to the hard work of our teachers, staff, and families who have helped make this beginning so successful. As we look ahead, there’s so much to be excited about in the coming month, from new learning opportunities to upcoming events that will bring our school community closer together. We can’t wait to see what we’ll accomplish together!
MEET THE TEACHER NIGHT/CLUBS FAIR: SEPTEMBER 24TH
A reminder that Meet the Teacher Night will be held on September 24th from 5:30pm–6:45 pm in the Athletic Centre This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with your child’s teachers, learn more about the curriculum, and ask any questions you may have about the school year We look forward to seeing you there!
We encourage families to stop by the Club Fair, explore the options, and support your child’s interests as they dive into these enriching opportunities
CLUBS FAIR: SEPTEMBER 25TH
I’m also thrilled to announce our upcoming Clubs Fair for students on September 25th, which will take place in the afternoon. There are so many exciting clubs proposed this year, and the buzz among the students is electric! From creative arts to film and STEM, there’s something for everyone.
HARVEST MOON CELEBRATION
In addition, we recently celebrated a beautiful Harvest Moon Festival with our International Student Community. Students came together to build lanterns and share moon cakes, creating a memorable afternoon of cultural exchange and connection It was a wonderful time for everyone involved, and we’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Choice Education for their generous contribution to this special event Their support helped make it a truly meaningful celebration for our school

Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
On September 30, Newton’s Grove School will observe Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day honors Indigenous communities across the country and recognizes the painful legacy of Residential Schools, reinforcing the message that “Every Child Matters.” We invite all staff and students to wear orange in a show of solidarity. In preparation for this day, our classrooms have been engaging in meaningful activities. Students have been involved in discussions and activities focused on themes like preserving Indigenous cultures and supporting community healing On September 30, our school-wide assembly will include moments of reflection, learning, and a commitment to honour the 94 Calls to Action We are proud of our community’s compassion and understanding, and we encourage families to continue these important conversations at home as we work together toward reconciliation
If you are looking for an orange shirt here are three organizations that still have stock and who support Indigenous Communities with 100% of their proceeds
1. Giant Tiger (online and in-store): “100% of the proceeds from our sales are donated to Indspire, in support of the Learning from the Past Fund. This fund provides bursaries to Indigenous post-secondary students pursuing an education in Indigenous Studies and Languages” https://wwwgianttigercom/pages/truth-and-reconciliation
2 The Native Canadian Centre of Toronto (online): https://thecedarbasketcom/collections/orange-shirts
3. The Orange Shirt Society (online and instore): This organization links retailers they have partnered with to sell official “Orange Shirt Day” t-shirts. They list easily accessible stores such as Canadian Tire, Mark’s and Aritzia: https://orangeshirtdayorg/merchandise/

CAMP PINECREST
Our Grade 9 students embarked on an exciting leadership retreat to Camp Pinecrest on Wednesday, and they're having the time of their lives!
From canoeing across beautiful lakes to trying their hand at archery, swimming, and creating natural watercolours, the students are fully immersed in both adventure and personal growth. This retreat is all about building connections, learning new skills, and discovering the leader within.
We're confident they'll return with incredible memories and a fresh perspective on teamwork and leadership We would like to thank our wonderful and dedicated Senior Teachers, Dr Hough, Ms Hewitt, Ms Houle, Mr Jones, Mr Spurrell and Dr O’Donnell for chaperoning this trip and taking time out of their personal lives to ensure our youngest seniors have a great time Our gratitude for our team is boundless!
